You can purchase and download the latest version of MPT from www.BVRP.com There's even a 50% discount code listed somewhere in the forums here. I'm sure you can find it if you did a search.

    The solution for MPT 4.x

Here are the steps to fix it:

1 - While logged in as an administrator right
click My Computer and click manage.

2- In the left side of the windows management
    console click Services

3 - In the list that appears on the right, look for "Telephony". Right click it, select properties and set it to start automatically

4- Click apply then click start, , it will show a progress bar, when it finish click ok and exit the console.

This should fix the problem once and for all.

I have the exact same problem on my L2 with using Motorola Phone Tools.

I have not gotten back around to trying this, so I can't say if it will resolve the issue or not - but the advice I was given is to change the port (try different ones until you find one where it works) within "options" after you've opened Motorola Phone Tools.

I am not "techie" so this may not be completely accurate, but my understanding of it is that the default port within the MPT program is potentially not assigned to the port that you've decided to plug the USB into on your computer.

Hope that helps - and let me know. ;) :)

How are you connected? Bluetooth or USB cable? Do you have the most up-to-date version of MPT?

Download all the updates, remove and replace your cable in the PC and in the phone and let MPT detect the phone as though you've never connected it before. If that doesn't work you've either got a faulty cable or a faulty USB port on your phone.

If the cable works with a RAZR and not with the W490 it may be that the W490 is too new to work and you'll have to wait for a new update to MPT. What was the other model of phone you tried it on that didn't work?

Weird. Seems like it's auto disconnecting... that only happens when you're in the multimedia studio? The SLVR is old enough that it should work fine with MPT, especially if the RAZR does. Can you copy and paste the communication logs that run when your phone is active?

There should be an option that shows the communication between the handset and the computer. I'm not at home right now, otherwise I could tell you exactly what it's called and how to get to it in MPT. It's one of the buttons on the phone-shaped GUI that comes up when your phone is connected to MPT.

Ok...I'm hoping somebody can help me on this. I picked up a Motorola I880 and wanted to be able to work with it. I found this forum and everybody seemed to recommend MPT because it was simple to use and would protect my phone from my stupidity. I got MPT installed and picked up a USB interface cable. The cable works because my computer sees my phone. I can browse the folder structure through my computer with no problem. However, I can't get MPT to detect the phone. I ran the Live Update and it downloaded 5 updates and installed them...still no luck. If anybody has thoughts, suggestions, or advice...I'm more than willing to hear it.

    I'm running MPT version 4.5.6a

    Hoping for help!
I have a Razr V3 and MPT. Cingular/ATT cell phone service. No problems installing. All I want to do with MPT is make ringtones for my phone from existing CD's, which I legally purchased and own. I have had several phone conversations with Motorola re: MPT, but I guess they don't speak Texas and I can't understand much else, so the communication has been poor.
    Here's my story to date:
Put a CD in the computer. Select a track from it. Use MMS to crop and accept a potential ringtone. I can only save it to PC as a .wav file; if I try to save it as an mp3 I get a message that the file could not be created. If I save it as a .wav, then it won't transfer to the phone.

INTERRUPTION IN NARRATIVE: I hooked up my phone (I guess 'connected' is the right term, my Texas is showing!), opened MPT, and now it says the phone isn't connected. I've turned the phone on and off, connected, disconnected, and reconnected, and nothing.

How can this be so darn difficult? Some of the things the Motorola Tech(s) told me included: I have to convert the CD track to MP3 before using MMS - I did that, then I got an error message that the file is too large. Another one told me my music is copyrighted, and I can't use it. I told him his advertising is false and misleading then. He said I could load a CD to my computer but not to another device. I asked him why it can be loaded to an iPod then. He didn't have an answer. WOW. I'm pretty sure this should NOT be this hard.

I'll be eagerly waiting for wisdom from the forum. Thanks.

I have searched for the answer but haven't had luck. I have MPT and running Windows Vista. I have installed it fine and I am able to transfer pictures fine. I have problems with the music side. When I try to crop a song I get "Motorola Phone Tools has encountered a problem and needs to close." It is only when I try to crop a song. Any info will be useful. I have a Razr V3xx. I am connected through a Bluetooth connection.

    Adrian,
This is seemingly a black hole. I have emailed Motorola, received only an automated reply that they'd received my email. No help. It just doesn't seem as though it should be so difficult using THEIR software and THEIR phone. I had high hopes for this website, but alas. No gurus have sprung forth with the answers. Probably like you, I have limited time to spend on this. It's just so aggravating.

Good Luck. If I find out anything, I'll post it here.

Motorola recommends the use of the software, but they do not make or support it. MPT is made by BVRP Software. Try sending your support request to www.bvrp.com

Jay, thanks for the redirect. I'm going to check it out now.

Adrian, if this works, I'll post what I did.

I bought my Razer 2 V9m about three days ago and have recently decided to try my hand at making ringtones. I have no troubles saving in mp3 format but when I attempt to save it in the ringtone folder the file automatically saves to the audio and tells me that the cropped file is not available as a ringtone. Halp halp

Having a problem with MPT: I have ver 4.xx and it wants to upgrade to ver 5.07. I did the upgrade and MPT disappears from the program list under the start menu. I also could not locate it in the program files folder. I finally found it in the add/remove programs list and clicked uninstall (which is the only option available.)

MPT 5 started to install at that point, so I went along with it. Everything was smooth until it couldn't find "data2.cab." It was asking me to insert disc 1. I don't own a ver 5 disc, so I put in my MPT 4 disc and pointed it to 2 diff data2.cab files (1 in the boot folder, and 1 in the ENU folder). No go, so I did a deep search for data2.cab on my PC and found 1 possible file in the temp folders, but it didn't like that one either. I've searched Google and checked BVRP's site with no luck for this file.

I can continue to use 4.xx and just not use the update software function anymore, but if it wants to update to 5.07, then why not keep up to date? Has anyone else experienced this.

Using: Windows Vista Home Premium (MPT 4 works fine with this)
Moto RAZR V3mm from Verizon that is just under 1 year old.

    Thanks,
    Spidey

I may have answered my own question here.

It seems that it may have been a mistake in the software update. I tried a reinstall today and was only able to get the last 4.xx update. After that it said I was running the most current version and never allowed me to download 5.07 again.

Last update I was able to get: 4.5.9e (03-03-2008). All is well in MPT4 again :)

    Hello everyone.

I've had my Motorola v6 Maxx for about half a year now, and everything has always worked fine with the Phone Tools and Multimedia Studio.
Today I recorded some audio notes on my phone to help me study for my English exam tomorrow, and wanted to transfer them onto my computer so I could put them on my iPod. Like always, I opened up phone tools, and was told there was an update available, so I did it. However, when I tried to get into the Multimedia Studio after it had finished updating, it came up with the message:

"You will interrupt an ongoing communication"

And gave me the option of clicking "Yes" or "Cancel"

Whatever I press, it doesn't matter, because the program freezes and refuses to open. I've tried this several times now, and am stressing, because I really want these notes and don't have another microphone to record them with!

    Help please? :(

I recently got a W755 from verizon. It apparently is too new for MPT to detect. Has anyone successfully edited the Detect.inf to add it in? Any guidance on what phone is similar in features that I could base my own added entry on?

I figured it out by reading the howardforums. (see post six in link below)
HowardForums: Your Mobile Phone Community & Resource - Motorola W755 Release Thread
You just need to use MPT 4.59f and manually select the v9mm as your phone. You will then be able to transfer, calendar, contacts, and use the file transfer tool to copy pics to the proper directory, as well as mp3s, renamed to xxxxx.qcp to the my sounds dir. The ringtones dir will not transfer anything you try to put in it. Verizon uses another dir that I'll post after I figure it out. Apparently you have to use the right version of p2k to transfer .qcp renamed .mp3s to it correctly.
