Noah, I thought that same thing as you. But I have recently learned that the Sprint V3m doesnt need any seem edits to work with MPT. Chutz, all you need to do is open MPT. Live update it to the newest version 4.36. Note: It wont let you update to the newest. You have to update one version at a time. As soon as you get it to the 4.36, it will contain all the correct drivers for your phone, and it will enable the MultiMedia portion of MPT. If you did those two seem edits, please un-do them. From what I have read, your s/w can be updated via MSU, and you will need to have your phone the way it was before doing any seem edits. Post back and let us know if that helped.
Thanks Cincyball, Excellent tutorial for a Seem Edit noobie like myself. I would have never even thought of trying to do this yesterday. I used a Sprint V3m and the first edit was already there so I made no changes. The second edit successfully changed my phone to V3mM and I was able to use MPT to transfer files. One question I do have; when "Saving to File" in the editor, should you save each edit or just once for the whole phone? Thanks Again,
Just save the specific Seem before editing. So when you load up Seem 2742, click save to file and it will save the entire seem in case you need to go back to the original settings.
I'd like to add my "thank you" for the wonderful tutorial this topic turned out to be. I moved from a V551/Cingular to V3m/Verizon. I remained with motorola since I already purchased the MPT packge for my V551. I liked being able to create personalized ring tones off of my CDs. After purchasing a mini usb cable (I have one for my digital camera but lost track of it after purchasing a "card ready" printer) I was surprised that everything appeared the same with MPT except Multimedia Studio. This began my journey into "SEEM" edits and this great tutorial. Thanks again, my favorite songs are now my favorite ringtones.
after i edited my seem, the date and time on my display screen got messed up. my calendar and date and time for all messages and texts are correct but the time and date on the display screen is wrong. does anyone know how to fix this or someway to reset it?? thanx
Just out of curiosity, with the Alltel v3m do I need to do the driver update for usb as well or can I just go with MPT right off the bat?
Hey Chess, welcome to WA. All you need is the usb driver and MPT! Alltel's V3M should work perfectly with no seem edits. Let me know if for some unforeseen reason it doesnt work right away. Just make sure u have updated MPT to its newest version, 4.36. Take care.
With the updates on MPT do you have to do them one by one or is there another way to get them all at once. Just wondering if there was a quicker way since I have an older version from when I had one of my old Moto phones from work and it might take a bit. Thanks!!:thumb:
On your *Sprint* V3m phone, go to: Menu-->Settings-->Phone Info-->Update Phone SW. This will fix your problem. Note (*sprint* V3m users): do Not seem edit to add the M to (V3mM). It will cause problems. You can easily back out this change. http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/415256-post1794.html Also, Sprint V3m software version 41 may be out soon. Rumor is that it may be out as soon as this week or next. Not sure what it changes. --zippy
Zippy, strange question, but what color is your spint v3m? There are a few people that did the v3mM seem edit, and their phone worked flawlessly without having to update. So that means one of two things. 1) There are 2 SLIGHTLY different variations on the phone released by Sprint (based on the color) <--- seems strange, but u never know haha 2) The phones selling recently are updated, where the first set of people to buy it from sprint didnt have the software update done yet. My guess is people buying them today, their phone is already updated. Peopel who bought it right when it came out need to do the update.
Thank God no dial up here. Everything went well and works perfect so now just transferring all my ringtones to my phone. Luckily I have most of them saved on a cd that I had made when I backed up my computer I won't have to do them again. Thanks again Cincyball for the great guide!
Hmm. Good question. I was kind of wondering that myslef. Ans1) I have the Sprint RED V3m (which came with the flash card and stereo headphones). It may have a different software load than the sprint grey? I know it has its own monster file due to the specifics with the RED screen savers and such. Ans2) If anyone's is already loaded with the new software (37), then it will work with MPT out of the box. So, what I am saying is that the seem edit appears to make it work flawlessly. It will enable music studio in MPT (for the older software version). And all seems just fine and dandy. However, at least on the RED sprint V3m, there are two things to note: A) It is not required if you just update your phone software with the phone's built in menu. (to 24.2_00.37.00R) ie. you don't have to do any "funy stuff" with your computer. Why fool around with something that is made to work on its own??? B) The seem edit caused the phone's built in OTA (Over The Air) software update to continually fail. When I undid that seem edit, it allowed me to update to the latest software version that already had the fix for MPT. The new software also adds some BT support and a few other things. So, as a test, I would suggest that the people that it "worked flawlessly" for, that they try to update their phone software OTA to see if it fails. And make sure they specify if they have the sprint V3m grey or the sprint V3m red and what software version is loaded on the phone. maybe someone with a *grey sprint* V3m can post what software version they have. It seems as though at least the red V3m shares the KRZRs software version (ie. 24.x), unlike the verizon counterparts. --zippy
Zippy, I own a Sprint Grey and a Red (wifes). Both were purchased within the last 2 weeks and both had version .35 software. You are correct, The untouched Red V3m updated to .37 while my edited Grey V3m errored out. I'll try reversing the edit on the Grey and test them both with MPT later tonight.
Well, The .37 software update didn't seem to change much for me at first. Niether the Red or the Grey Sprint V3m were able to access the Multimedia apps in Motorola Phone Tools after the update. However, The .37 upgrade does not autodetect the phone but brings up manual detection in the Configuration Wizard. If I select Motorola USB Modem>Motorola CDMA>V3m Mutimedia will not show up, if I select V3mm it will, cool! So, In summary, On the Sprint V3m I do not need to edit seem:2827 to get the Multimedia Studio but I do need to choose V3mm in Device Detection to enable Multimedia. Now the next question is; Can someone verify this on a stock Sprint V3m Grey or Red with the .35 software version. Can you choose V3mm in manual hardware detection in MPT and enable Multimedia or does manual detection only show up in the .37 software? By the way, great thread!
ok! I really need help! i just got my V3m a week ago and i have mpt downloaded, it recognizes the phone and i'm to the point where i'm editing songs for ringtons. When i finish editing the song into a ringtone i click save to my pc and it says "failed to create file". Also, i tried just sending it to my phone and it says "unsupported format". I've downloaded the recent update to windows media player and i made sure it was an mp3..help me please!!
Did you try following this? -> http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/razr-phones/59362-how-cropping-mp3-saving-phone-indiana.html
I would try that but the problem is it won't let me transfer to the phone. It says mp3 codec stuff...i'm @ school so i don't know exactly what it says. But it won't let me do it becuase some mp3 codec.
ok..it says "unsupported format-mp3 codec"???? what the heck does that mean? lol please help someone!
ok. Now i don't get the failed to create file and unsupported format stuff because i updated my motorola phone tools. Now i have the problem you showed with the not able to save as an mp3. Ok, i'm at the point where i just got done cropping the ringtone down to 30 sec. so i'm trying the transfering to your phone first. But when i click transfer to phone, nothing happens! i don't know what to do. Please help
Make sure you have the latest MPT update. I had that issue until I updated to the latest MPT. Only the very latest MPT update has the drivers for our phone. I have since installed on my work computer today, and there were no manual modifications or manual detection settings. I just installed, updated MPT (multiple times). Then started MPT, then hit search for phone. Then plugged in my phone. And then it came up just fine. Side note: They are now shipping with .37. --zippy
I followed all of the instructions and get my phone to connect perfectly. Now I need to know what format of ringtone to use in order to assign them as ringtones. Currently using 64bps MONO .mp3's. What folder do I put them in to use them? ALSO...It is the Sprint Gunmetal V3M. I can transfer files to my microSD, and put them in the AUDIO folder...but as I said I cannot use them as ringers. Any clue why?
NEVERMIND! You can't choose them from the Ringers menu...you actually have to go to Settings > Sounds > and assign them from there. Also can customize via the assign ringer to contact. Hope I helped anyone with my same questions!
tony, welcome to WA. Just FYI, please dont post the same question in two different threads. Glad to see you figured out your problem.
Excellent instructions Cindyball - I was too paranoid to try this before I saw you lead someone else to success - how cool to have this working now. WTF is with VZW?
Glad to have helped, Steve. VZW makes more money by disabling these features Sucks, but business money wise, they are smart...customer care wise, not so much. The prob is there are sooo many people that dont know what VZW is doing for any kind of reprecussions.
Ok. Its me again! I have another problem. Same one, sorta, but kind of different. My problem before was that when i hit transfer to phone(because i couldn't save them) it wouldn't do anything. But now i can transfer the WHOLE song (i didn't try that before, i was cropping them) but not bits and pieces of them. I've been looking for a wave editor and then I will crop them on that and then save them and then transfer becuase mpt will think its a whole song. Is that the right way to go? or is there something else i can do? Please help Thank You
Yea, if you are able to transfer the entire song (strange that it wont let u transfer a section), then you can use like NeroWave, or Audacity, among others to crop songs. If they are in wav format, u should be able to convert them as well.
I had quite a time getting the MPT to work with my new Sprint V3M. Funny, MPT did work on my laptop but not install on my other XP system (hung during one dll install. Now for the next question. I used MPT to move some ringers to the V3M. They were in .wav format. But, the ringer does not work on a call. However, if you want to listen to them in the call selection menu it works. I read that the M3V uses MP3 format for ringers. Is that true?
