I just got my Razr v3m about a week ago. It is Verizon based and I wanted to transfer my own ringtones to the phone. Using the instructions above, I found it quite easy to do this. Thanks for the great tutorial! :)

No prob, any seem edits u do from here on out just follow the same process. Just make sure u pay attn to all the values, such as the bytes and record when loading the seem. Its always a good idea to back up your seem before modding it as well.

i have one query on this , after i have done the SEEM edit ( went thru the procedure without a single deviation) the file transfer is enabled but iam still not able to use bluetooth for file transfer. is there any other procedure to do that ?

    thanks once again.

What are you trying to do via bluetooth? The ONLY bluetooth file transfer this phone has is thru MPT. There isnt a huge advantage to this vs the usb cable. This phone doesnt have OBEX "Object Exchange Protocol" (phone <-> comp bluetooth file transfer) and it definitely doesnt have OPP "Object Push Protocol" (phone <-> phone bluetooth file transfer). There isnt any way to enable it either, unless you flash to Alltel 4.04 firmware (OBEX and OPP). You can flash to Verizon .02 firmware (OBEX only). Both will void your warranty obviously, and both will render your memory card slot useless, among many other things. To me, the pros outweighed the cons in my decision to flash to the Motorola UI on the Alltel flash. You can read more here -> http://wiki.howardforums.com/index.php/Motorola_V3c_Tutorial:_Flashing_to_Alltel_User_Interface. But this is rather extreme for your purposes probably, haha.

At any rate, if you would like to learn how to get bluetooth file transfer thru MPT, you can read here -> http://mark.cdmaforums.com/V710_MPT_BT.htm

As I said, it can be a reeeeal pain to set up. I never got it going perfectly. And since you have the usb cable already, it is much simpler to just use that.

yaldeb, this is a thread for connecting to MPT, not getting your phone set up with your comp. For future reference, if you cant find a thread titled similar to your problem, u can create on with a title describing your prob. The reason is b/c people with the same problem as yours would never know to look in the MPT thread for the driver for the computer, haha. Anyways, since its here, I will upload the usb driver that we use for our v3c/m from verizon/alltel. Maybe it will work with yours. See the attachment below.

Thank you for your informative posts. I have VZN and have been very frustrated trying to upload ringtones using methods other than MPT. I finally broke down and bought MPT, and with your walk-through I was able to upload my custom mp3's to both our phones in a matter of minutes. How easy...Thank you so much for you help.

Great Instructions, I was easily able to follow them and get mpt working with the multimedia icon. I got my sd card today and added it to the phone and now MPT will not detect my phone when I connect it to the computer, but if I take it out it works no problem. Is there a workaround for this or do you always have to remove the sd card from the phone so it's not recognized as a storage device.

When you installed the SD card did you format in the phone?
I too just installed an SD card today, formated it in the phone and the first time I plugged it in it too showed up as a Storage device. I disconnected it, closed MPT, reconnected phone and went to GIN and ran Sync, opened WMP 10 and let it find both the Phone memory and the SD card. I did not sync anything but now when I plug in the phone and run MPT it finds it and opens just fine. Give it a try.

    This is awesome post!
One question. Will this work on my Sprint version of the V3m? Or will this mess up my phone? I would imagine that the offsets would be different.
    thanks,
    zippy

It would be similar, but I dont know what the offsets look like. You need the DriverTool4.21a in conjunction with MSU installed in order to get the correct usb drivers installed on your machine. I know a guy on another site who has your phone, and I will check with him to see what he has figured out.

Again, since this is already in this post,

I tried installing the drivers from post #70. However, when I plug in the V3m to the usb cable, windows XP asks to install drivers. It can't find any, and fails to recognize the phone.

However, this one allows me to charge the phone and lists it as a modem in the device list:
    View attachment Mot_USB_driver.zip

Not sure if that gets us to where we want to be.

I found a friend at work that has MPT. So, we plugged it in and it works.
However, it is missing the media center.

So, I tried the second seem edit (since it showed the same string at the same offset).

I won't be able to try the phone with MPT until after Thanksgiving (He's on vacation now) or as soon as I get MPT shipped to my house (2-4 bus. days).

    I will keep you updated.

Note: I still can't see the phone as a mass storage device like he can with his V3i...

Again, thanks for your help, my v3m works great. I connected another verizon friend's older v3c, and couldn't get the multimedia icon. Can I do the same seem edits on the v3c to make it a v3cm; as I made my v3m into a v3mm?
    Thanks,

Yes, you can do the EXACT same seem edits for the v3c. The ONLY difference is how you changed yours to v3mM, his will be changed to v3cM. Doing that seem edit to add the "M" to the phone ID string enables the MultiMedia on MPT. SO when Verizon advertises the v3m as its multimedia razr, technically its false advertising since they disabled it on us, but im not sure how far u could challenge them b/c u can get it back if u know how. At any rate, your friends v3c and your v3m have virtually all the same seem edits. You will see them listed as "v3c/v3m seem edits"

I did all the right things about a month ago and it worked perfectly, but now it's not working anymore. I tried to do all the stuff again, but I'm failing miserably. Can someone give me a step by step guide on what to do from the very beginning?

Alright. I have everything installed, including the Seem Editor and all that jazz. I have edited the seems with the 2742,0000 thing to enable USB transfer. But now I can't even open MPT or Live Update, it gives me a "mPhonetools.exe- Application Error" "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002). Click on OK to terminate the application"

Have u tried re-installing MPT? Its a prob with your comp and the program, not the process or hacks that we have described. If the program isnt running correctly, nothing we can do will fix it. Get that running first.
