Can anyone help me... at this step #42 I see V3m not V3mM. I used another source to try to seem edit first. It was the same as the first step here without the additional seem edit. I'm stuck...help

okay - that you see V.3.m.... is good (the application window should look like this?)
you need to navigate over to the 2nd period after "m" and change it to m (or M), so that you see (note that I'm lazy and instead of toggling bits, I click on the period two to the right of the "m" and just manually type "M" there):
    V.3.m.m.....
    (or)
    V.3.m.M....
(so that it looks like this)
Then make sure the bottom right corner is marked "Seem 2827" and "Record 0001" under "Save", and click "Save to phone"

Let me know if this makes sense?

One thing I noticed in these screen shot is it was loaded ad bytes 007a, you really should load the seem as bytes 0000 instead.

Also you can in fact if you want just load seem 2827, record 1, bytes 0000 then click on the top row the 7th colum over. If you look in the lower box on the left it displays offset 0006 which is what you want. Then just make sure bits 0,2,3, and 6 have check marks, all the other unchecked, click save to phone and your done.

Or load the seem from your phone as mentioned, use this link and download this file to your comp http://mark.cdmaforums.com/Files/2827_0001-V3Mm.seem , once you have this file and you loaded the seem from your phone click load from file and find the file you just downloaded. Select it click okay, then once you are back to the seem screen you should see the added M, if so click save to phone and your done. The link I posted is a file pre-edited with all the correct settings done for you.

Thanks for the help and screen shots. I had actually figured the problem out with one exception. Apparently, the new firmware will not allow the transfer of music files even with this seem edit. It does allow picture transfers. I have overcome this problem using P2K Commander.

If anyone knows newer seem edits to hack the new firmware please post them. I will check back from time-to-time. Thanks again!!!

ah, yes. Looks like you've been bitten by the same firmware issue I ran up against. Verizon apparently did something to the firmware with that version that precludes MPT from transferring audio files. (hooray for vendor lock-in. :() As you noted, P2KCommander seems to be the way to go. Just don't forget to delete the mytone.db from the root directory when you get the files uploaded (I spent about an hour banging my head against my phone last night until I remembered I had to delete that file after the transfer - I was able to play the ringtone, but not assign it to a contact until I did that.)

Can't transfer mp3s or WMA files to v3m

Hello. I had a razr v3m that I hacked the heck out of and enjoyed for two years. On that phone I was able to send mp3s to the phone using MPT and use them as ring tones. I just got a new Razr V3M and did the exact same seem edits, but this one will NOT accept any mp3s. It works with MPT and I can transfer pics and vids, but not mp3s. I tried converting to WMA, but that gives the same error. It says "unsupported format." I noticed the software on the phone is different from my old one even though they're both verizon v3m phones. Any ideas?

My bad. I read up to page 27, then gave up. I see now that this isn't a new issue. I'd still appreciate any input, and I'll be reading the last couple pages in the mean time.

^^^Well to save you the time of reading more your issue is you got a new phone and it has the newest firmware on it. that being said MPT will not allow you to transfer ring tones anymore being VZW locked it up good this time around and there is no hack/fix for it. To be able to get ring tones on your new phone your only option is to use MSU along with p2kcommander.

FYI the tones can be mp3 that is not an issue. They need to be placed in the /motorola/shared/ringtone folder. Once you put them there go back to the root directory of the phone and find the "mytone.db" file. Highlight it and then delete it. After which time unplug you phone and cycle the power then the tones should be there and good to go for use. Peace

Re: Can't transfer mp3s or WMA files to v3m

Hope you found the bits of information you needed, Shenoums1. I posted in this thread the version of p2kcommander that I ended up using to get around this (transferring the MP3s to the phone to use as ringtones). I don't remember which post I found in this thread that detailed the process, but high level, it's:

    Launch Motorola Software update.
Connect your phone to the computer
    Launch p2kcommander
transfer the MP3 file(s) from your computer to the phone in the /a/motorola/shared/ringtone directory
    delete the /a/mytone.db file
shut down p2kcommander and Motorola Software Update, disconnect your phone, and power cycle the phone.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks, you've both been very helpful. Now I have another issue. Before I renewed my contract, I could use the phone to get free internet on my laptop over the 1x network. This time, I did all the same mods and used the phone for internet, but rather than being charged air time (free on nights and weekends), I got a $480 phone bill. Apparently, it's now considered data (even with EVDO disabled) and the charge is something like 2 bucks a meg. Any way to get around that?

Sorry, but that's outside of my experience. I saw a few threads on this when I was looking for the information I found in this thread, though, so you might try a couple of the other threads here, and see if you can find the answer. Good luck!

That's the issue right there, you renewed/updated your contract. Any contract change after 11/1/2007 went to the new " Nationwide calling plan" which in turn charges data billing. Being you have the new calling plan anything and everything you do will be billed as $1.99/Mb even when you browse GIN, or Vcast. There is no way around it now, being you can't get your old calling plan back. The only time DUN was being billed as mins is when you have an America's Choice plan. All new calling plan now bill for every bit sent & received. Now on the other hand I wouldn't call and complain either, because in reality you were breaking the terms of agreement before on your old calling plan. You are not suppose to be using DUN if you don't buy a data plan, people just figured out how to beat the system which is why I'm guessing VZW changed the way the bill for it now. This is the reason I continue to keep my America's Choice plan, they been hounding me to go to one of there new plan and I just laugh at them and say " what do you think I'm stupid" why would I want to have to pay for data now, and gain nothing on the calling plan seeing as I have plenty of mins, and I get free nights & weekends already"

I have having the same problems and get the same error message. Unfortunately my Motorola device doesn't even show up in Device Manager. Should I even delete all references to Motorola in the registry?

Did you happen to install the moto drivers first and then install MPT? If so leave everything the way it is and install the drivers again. For some reason the drivers that get installed by MPT do not work right.

Curious what carrier are you with?
If it is Verizon what firmware is on your phone?

^^^More then likely the issue is the drivers. For whatever reason the drivers that get installed by MPT not seem to work right. Downloaded these and install them. Run the clean first, and then clean and install. FYI do this without your phone plugged in with any programs running. Then b4 firing up MPt, plug you phone in and see if it is listed in device manager uder modem. If so you then should be good to go. Peace

Yes I have Verizon. How do I find the firmware? Thanks for your help this is driving me nuts. I believe I installed MPT first, or course I've uninstalled everything and reinstalled several times, including the latest drive. I don't understand why Hotsync for my Palm won't work anymore either. It recognizes the phone at fist then I get the cannot install the hardware Fatal Error message.

Should I delete every reference to Motorola on my computer including those in the registry? My last Razr worked fine with MPT I even called Motorola a few times and they sent me MPT 4.5.6 by e-mail which is the latest version. Maybe I'm thinking there is some references to the old Razr on my computer and it's getting confused.

No matter what drivers i use when i plug my motorola razor V3G into usb, My pc recgonizes its there and then sees the Motorola USB modem BUT.... I then get Cannot install This Hardware
There Was A Problem Installing This Hardware: Motorola USB Modem An Error Occured During The Installation Of The Device, Fatal Error During Installation. I get this everytime, The modem shows up in device manager for a few seconds with a yellow ! beside it, so i check the properties while i can and i get this ---> Reinstall the drivers for this device. (Code 18)
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver. and then the device manager removes it from the list. WTF lol any ideas?

Hungryfish; on the firmware either look in settings&tools under phone info for the S/W which is the firmware number. Or turn the phone off and take the battery out it should be listed on one of the barcode sticker.

Now as for why you both are having issue with these drivers it's hard to say in all honest. It sounds like there is a corrupt file somewhere in the comps that is not allowing it to install correctly. Curious are you both using the same USB port each time you are doing this? If so uninstall the drivers, reboot the comp and reinstall them. This time plug the phone into a different USB port. FYI anytime you do plug the phone into a different port it will in fact try to install the correct drivers for that specific port. Only other suggestion I have is after uninstalling the drivers b4 you try this post is to grab a copy of ccleaner from Free Software Downloads and Software Reviews - Download.com run the registry cleaner to clear up any issues. Odds are the first time it is run the list will be huge just let it fix everything, then run it again and it will find more. Keep doing it until the list is emtpy. then reboot the comp and try the river install again. I have had friends who had driver issue and 8 out of 10 time ccleaner will clean it up after all the install and uninstalls, great program IMO for stuff like this. Oh and it is free just so you know. Peace

    What carrier are you with?

If memory serve me the v3g is a Green colored Razr for AT&T, not sure exactly tho being I have VZW and our phones are CDMA. Anywhoo that being the case it's actually a v3 if I'm not mistaken, all the G stand for is the special green color, so you'd want to select v3 from the phone list. I don't keep up on the GSM stuff a whole lot being I am on a CDMA network.

Hungryfish, first thing thx for the info. Second thing edit or have that post delete you really don't want your phone serial # listed in a public forum.

Now for the bad news, you have the newer firmware. Reason I know this is your phone has an MEID & pESN number and not just a ESN, that being said MPT will not work with it except for transferring contacts or pictures.

If it is a black Razr from Cingular ( ie AT&T) then it's got to be a v3, v3xx. Either way it really makes no difference it's got to be an issue with your comp then. I have had people actually get to the point of doing a reformat but I wouldn't go that far yet. Do you happen to have User ID setup on your comp ( ie seperate logins), if so setup a generic one named phone or something, and have it so it only loads window default settings and no other programs running and see what you get. On all my comps because of the nightmares of hacking CDMA phones I do this and it saves a lot of headaches of other software or programs causing conflict with what I'm messing with, may be worth a simple test b4 going threw the headache of a reformat.

Well at least you have somewhat narrowed the problem down now. I always hate suggesting a reformat but sometimes that is all that will correct it. Hopefully you'll get lucky and adding a login with nothing running will work for ya.
