Ok, try this for the Sprint v3m:

    1. Do not connect phone yet.
    2. Install MPT and update to 4.36
    3. Install MSU, open it and let it update
    4. Make sure your phone software is updated
    5. Open MSU, and NOW connect your phone
    6. It will install it is a v3m/l7/... etc
    7. Once MSU finds your phone and installs the MCU, etc and then displays your ESN, close the program and disconnect the phone
    8. Open MPT, create new profile
    9. MPT will now automatically detect your phone and have MultiMedia icon showing.

I followed your directions on seem editing to get MPT to do USB transfers and it worked flawlessly. Thank you for your patience and superb directions.  :thumb:

Aight, here's the deal. I'm sure the answer to my question is somewhere in this forum except I don't have intestinal fortitude to wade through the info. I have a verizon V3m razr. To no one's surprise after installing MPT it didn't allow me to transfer pic's and ringtones to the SD card. Any step by step instructions???

You are joking right? haha ;)

You posted in the VERY thread that gives a step by step to hack your phone to make it work. You will need to specifically follow posts 21-44 to make it work the way u want it to with MPT.

thanks for the info, however 2 things:

    1. my p2k screen does not have a window allowing me to change the bytes to "0000"

    2. how do I enable a USB transfer (pardon the simplistic question)?

    thanks

Ill start with the 2nd question. You enable it with a seem edit IN p2kseem editor. So you need to get #1 squared away first.

Where did u download the p2kseem editor? You should be able to load it up like the screen shot I attached. Let me know if u still cant get it working.

Condensed version of Cincyball to wcolton steps

Unsolicted consolidation of steps for the seem edit challenged:

Must be able to charge phone in USB port. Must have Motorola Phone Tools (MPT) installed. Need MSU (Motorola Software Updater – to get phone in correct mode to edit seem files) and P2Kseem (used to edit seem files).

Just download MSU and P2Kseem, don’t install them yet.

Plug in the phone and make sure it shows up as a USB modem. Install and run MSU 1st. If you are prompted with a series of drivers, choose automatic install for each of them. Once done, it should display a box and show your ESN # on the left hand side

Go to device manager, and you should see:

    Motorola USB Device
    ->Accessories Interface
    ->Data Logging MCU Interface
    ->Test Command Interface

If so, proceed to install and run P2Kseem.

It should show “connected” in the lower left hand corner. If so, in the lower right side of the screen, there is a "load" box.

1st seem: Type 2742. Leave record as 1 and change bytes to 0000. Then hit “load from phone”.

Now save a copy of your original seem. Select “save to file” in lower right corner and select a place on the computer for the file.

To enable USB file transfer, scroll down to the row 000060. Then use the right arrow until you get to Offset 006a. The top box (Bit 0) should be empty, and it should say Bluetooth or USB file transfer in MPT and E815 BT OBEX. Check that box to turn it on.

It may say, "Bluetooth or USB file transfer in MPT and BT OBEX. If there is no"E815" after the "and" before the "BT OBEX" it is OK.

Once checked, select "save to phone" and it will ask if you are sure, say yes.

2nd seem: Type 2827, record = 1, bytes = 22. Hit load from phone. Click save to file again to save this original seem.

Go to offset 0006. Then check boxes 0,2,3,6. Leave 1,4,5,7 empty. If you look in the upper right hand corner, you should now see “V.3.m.M”

Once done, click "save to phone" and it will ask if you are sure, say yes.

You have successfully changed 2 seem edits. The 1st enabled USB file transfer. The 2nd one will enable multimedia auto-detection for the phone as a v3mM (where the last M stands for multimedia)

Once done, and you have saved this to the phone, click Restart Phone. It will go thru a series of events. Once it says connected in the lower left corner again, you can close out of P2Kseem and MSU, unplug the phone, then plug it back in. Start MPT and you should see multimedia automatically enabled.

Looks good to me...then again, they are my words ;)

Also, just to add to the end...

Once u are done, and restarted the phone, when you open MPT, CREATE A NEW PROFILE. This will make sure it AUTO DETECTS your phone as the v3mm instead of the v3m it USED TO BE before seem editing.

    Cincy,
Just got my wifes razr (v3mM) all hooked up. did the 2 seem edits, and have transfered ringtones into computer, setup phone #'s and speed dialing. Your instructions were great, saved lots of time!!!! great job!

Now I am trying to figure out the music part of things. I dont quite understand the whole "mange music"/playlists and "sync music" menus on the phone.

i have a 1gb card in phone. i could transfer mp3's either from mpt or directly to card by inserting it into card reader on computer.

my computer is running win2k with mediaplayer 9, but I have access to wifes XP box, running mediaplayer11

Seems like a bit of conflicting info on these threads, so i figured i would ask you, since you seem to be very much in the know on this stuff.

    Got any inputs?

    thanks
    Tim

    Tim,

MUSIC (ie full songs) must be put in the 'my_music' folder. This can ONLY be done via syncing with WMP10 or WMP11. MPT cannot access that folder. So it appears you would need to use the XP machine for this. You would think it is as simple as popping the card into a card reader and transferring the files in the card's 'my_music' folder, but for some reason, that doesnt work. Also, the format for this music MUST be WMA format, and no other. Syncing can be tricky. But this is the music that would be in the Media Player portion of your phone (ie manage music, my music, etc).

RINGTONES (ie for your ringers - 30 seconds long +/-) must be put in the PHONE'S 'audio' folder which can be accessed by MPT. They must be storedo n the phone's memory b/c if they were on the card, and the card was taken out, the phone wouldnt have a file to play that is necessary. The format can be in MP3 or MIDI, your choice. These files are in with the rest of your ringtones and cannot be played in the Media Player.

I hope this has helped clear things up a little. I know it can get confusing reading everything here, especially when MUSIC and RINGTONES get used improperly.

    Cincy,
    thanks.

For some reason I dont see any folders/dirs on my card when accessing it with card reader on computer, but i do know phone is seeing it, because i can see the 1 GB free mem from phone.

I will dig into the media player sync stuff. all my music is in mp3. does mediplayer convert to wma automatically during sync, or do i have to convert manually to mp3 ahead of time?

I will start rooting around for some sites or threads discussing this aspect.

Thanks again. Karma works, you are building up a lot of points in that Karma bank, rest assured!

Did your format the card upon inserting it into the phone? If not, then try that. If you did, try again, haha. It shoudl put a few random folders...as well as the 'my_music' folder. To do that, go into Settings>System>Device Info, and instead of viewing the available space, u should have an option of Format.

Yes, WMP will auto convert your mp3 into wma....UNLESS they are protected mp3s (ie purchased music, etc).

I've done all the things you've said previously on the forum and i'm in motorola phone tools v4.21a. I was successful with taking pictures off but When i try to put a jpg onto the phone, it rejects it saying (Request denied by phone (unsupported media type (Ox4F)). Also, With videos, I can take them off but not put them on. It seems like i can't put anything onto the phone, just take it off. I'm so frustrated.. Help me please...

    Modem connections don't work!

I may have misunderstood parts of this thread. I was under the impression that once I performed all the mods, I was going to be able to use my Verizon V3M as a dial-up modem. This morning, I tried to test this facility, since I'm going into the hospital for a week or so and will probably need this connection. Everything seemed to go fine. It dialed. It started to go to the connection, and then told me it couldn't complete it because I needed to have some sort of "data" function turned on by my service provider. Is this really the case? Or am I missing something?

Any help anyone can offer will be appreciated. (It's time-dependent.)

    Thank you.

    Re: Modem connections don't work!

This thread is for Motorola Phone Tools...more specifically the MultiMedia function. I do not know anyone who uses the Internet connecttion successfully.

I suggest you try this thread for Dial Up Networking (DUN) a.k.a. using your phone as a modem (keep in mind this will use minutes)

    http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/razr-phones/60960-free-wap-free-dun.html?highlight=free+wap

Let me know if you have questions with it.

    Hello to all.

Just joined here a few minutes ago but I've been to this site for the past 48 hours trying to get MPT to work with my phone. I just got the phone a couple days ago. It's a Sprint Razr V3m (RED). Brand spakin' new. I've been through almost every page and tried basically everything but it just seems not to work for me. Problem:

    I have MPT 4
Installed it and updated it to 4.36c
I go through all the steps and when it tells me to plug my phone in, I do.
When I plug it into the usb port on my comp, I here the USB connect sound but instead of the just initial one sound, it's 3 quick dings like the USB is messed up.
My computer won't recognize my phone when I plug it in.
Sometimes it will work but most the time it doesn't.
I had it work ONCE yesterday and I acutally copied an entire .mp3 to my phone but right after it finished copying it, everything messed up and my phone wouldn't be recognized anymore.
I probably haven't covered everything but thats all I can remember ATM.
Frustrated to all hell. I read all the other posts and see that everyone has theirs working except me. Haha time to pull out the sludge hammer:rolleyes:
