Thanks Cincy!! However on PK2commander I had to go the attributes route. I was using version 3.3 and it was acting flakey. So basically I had to change the attributes of the stock ringtones and then fire up MPT. They were now accessible that way and I was able to delete them through MPT. Ya helped me free up some memory. So if you are even in Souff Texas PM me I will buy you a beverage of choice.
I've been reading these threads trying to get my Sprint V3m Red Razr to work with Motorola Phone Tools. When I install the disk, it finds updates for version 4.21 and 4.36, both boxes are checked, and I hit update. It will update it to 4.21 and then not do anything. I saw somewhere in these posts that Sprint's V3m phone will work with MPT if the version is updated to 4.36. Does anyone know why it will stop updating after 4.21? I have the phone icon up in the bottom right hand corner, but it just keeps saying "Initializing...Please wait" It won't say anything but that..plus, on the top part of the phone, when I connect it, it says "Communication Port unavailable". When I first installed it, I had to add my phone manually. My phone does charge when connected to the computer via USB. Please help. Thanks
Brittany, When I did my MPT updates I would update to 1 version at a time. I only checked 4.21 first and then after that updated I ran MPT again and let it update to 4.36 and it worked fine. Make sure your phone is not connected to the PC when doing those updates.
Ok, so I uninstalled it and reinstalled it. When it came up with the updates, I unchecked the 4.36 and just did the 4.21a. It finished with that one and asked me to click on a profile, then it just went into detecting my phone. Didn't give me an option of updating to 4.36. Did I do something wrong?
No problem bud. Perhaps I will take u up on that, although I have never been to Texas, haha. As for P2Kcommander, if you want it to act better for u, try downgrading to version 3.22, or even 3.26. I never had success with anything newer than that. I like your solution however! I never thought of that. So you just set the attributes of the stock ringers from "hidden/not shown in phone apps" to NOT HIDDEN? Very good thinking.
Yea, you still need to update one more version or it will nevrr work. When the phone is open in the right corner of the screen, go to Menu->Setup->Update configuartion, or something along those lines. If that doesnt work, go into the c:/program files/motorola phone tools/ and look for Live Update. Either way, u must get it to 4.36c. Then make sure ur phone software is fulyl updated. Then create a new profile, and u should be good to go.
Thanks..so I updated it to 4.36 and I create a new profile. It goes through the steps of finding the phone, and it still says that it can't find it. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but when I plug my phone in, the bottom of my computer shows a screen that says "Found New Hardware" Then it comes up with the wizard screen. It asks if Windows can connect to Windows Update to search for software." If I click yes, it asks me to insert a cd, but I don't have one for this. All I have is the MPT software. If I click no, and then click "Install the software automatically", the next screen says "Cannot Install this Hardware: The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software." What should I do now?
This is the same problem that I am having. I have tried the driver tool with no luck. Every time i plug my phone in (with our without MPT on) it goes through the FOund New Hardware wizard but can't find the software. I have even tried downloading the drivers and manually updating them from device manager but it errors out (says fatal error during installation). I read about halfway through the 500 posts on this site and found them all very useful...just not in solving my problem...so I appologize if this was already addressed. And thanks in advance for the help.
Hello Cincy. I am having multiple problems, and it seems as though you have been very helpful for other people. I am trying to connect my V3m to my Vista machine. I have fixes (Driver Tool...) and multiple drivers, but none seem to do the trick. When I run MPT, it does not recognize the phone, and when I go to manually set it up, it never can find a driver. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Who is your service provider? And what version of MPT are you running? If you are Verizon, have you done the seem edits that are required?
I have Verizon, and MPT v4.0. I have not done any edits. I am not able to download the correct driver for Vista, and MPT will not find my phone.
Update to MPT 4.36c. It should have the correct driver. And also, u will need to do the seem edits based on the walkthru on the first two pages of this thread in order to use MPT with ur verizon razr. It is a must!
To do this I just run the MPT install and allow updates, correct? Do you think this will still work on Vista?
How would I find that out? The only thing I know to do is go to Settings, and then Phone Info, then Version and it says: Software Version: 24.2_00.43.00R Not sure if this is what you are looking for.
I dont know about Vista. I avoided upgrading my system to it. But I would hope it is the same way. Or go into the Program Files/Motorola Phone Tools and look for Live Update. See if it can detect if there is a newer version out. Both of you, yes, this is what I was looking for. As you can see, Brittany's phone is up to date. It should work with MPT, but cdc, you need to update yours to get to where hers is. All I can tell you is, when u update MPT to 4.36c, it installs the correct drivers on your comp. Open MPT, ceate new profile. When it says plug in phone, do so. It should then automatically install the correct drivers and find ur phone. I wish I had one of these so I could troubleshoot. Im going off what other users have claimed as successful
I'm not at home to try this right now, but I did do it last night, and it didn't work. Could the problem be with when I plug my phone in, it comes up with the Found New Hardware, and then says it can't install it?
I have already tried this as well with the same results. I actually installed MPT on my desktop and it worked just fine but that does me little good with syncing my phone with work computer contacts . The other thing that is weird is that when I go to device manager and update the driver for Motorola USB modem (which I manually installed from MPT) it starts the update but errors out. I ran MSU and it said that my phone was up to date. Thanks again for taking the time to try and fix these problems.
Hey Thanks, I was behind a firewall so I couldn't do the sotware update and needed to get my contacts before I left the company. Your driver update did the trick. Many thanks!
Hey, I know that mine isn't working either and that we're having the same problem. You said MSU says your phone is up to date. Have you tried manually going into your phone and updating it? A guy at Sprint did this for me, so that's how I have the current version. Just go to Settings, Phone Info, Update Phone SW. Then it'll check for updates. It didn't solve my problem, but maybe it'll solve yours.
So you don't know why my phone wouldn't work? Thanks for all your help. Maybe I should just return MPT since it won't do anything for me.
Hmmm...I wonder if that is the problem. Are they ones u added on with an expansion card? Or are they built right into the computer? Sometimes usb ports dont get enough power to them to run certain devices properly. Have u tried both of them? Also, what version Windows are u running?
