Hi there, brand new to this forum, but it seems like you guys know your stuff. I've been helping my friend with his KRZR from Verizon, but I've run into a stumbling block. I was able to do the SEEM edits no problem to make the Multimedia Center on MPT work, but once I've transferred the ringtones or songs to his phone they don't show up. I've been able to "synch" the phone with my comp so I could see what was stored in the phone memory, and the files were there, but we can't access them through the phone interface. Any help would be greatly appreciated. (This is why I like my RAZR and my nice independent carrier.)
THANK YOU CINCYBALL!!!!! I have the RAZR V3m from sprint.. when it came time to choose a driver manually in phonetools, I chose the v3cm and all worked fine... if you are ever in the Houston area, there is a thick steak with your name on it (or falafel if you are vegan/ vegetarian). I still have probs with the m505 error for the memory card, so hopefully I can find someone as helpful as you for that issue. Again, thank you.. YOU ROCK!!!!!
Hi -- New here, pretty much read the whole thread, and considering doing the described procedure on my Verizon v3m. Already got started by installing drivers. Downloaded and installed BitPim. It looks like it should be able to do the things I want: transfer photos, ringtones, etc. from my computer to my phone. Will the seem edits you describe here for MPT get BitPim to do the job? Or do I really need to buy MPT?
Thanks for the kind words, and the offer. Texas is one of the few states I havent been to I have heard a few times people refer to the m505 error, but since i dont have the sprint razr, i dont know how to remedy the problem. If u ever figure it out, let us know. BitPim is good for pretty much most things except ringtones. The audio folder is locked, and there is no way around it. That is the reason ffor MPT. It can access the phone's audio folder to add ringtones. BitPim will work in its "full potential" even w/out seem edits. The seem edits are required to recognize the Verizon v3m and allow access to the MultiMedia studio. Right now u can buy it for $19.95 at www.bvrp.com as a download file. It will show as $39.90, but if u use the discount code BVRPUS, it will give u a 50% discount.
Re: Cincyball: "What folder did u transfer them to? And what format were they in?" We tried the "audio" and "ringers" folders with files in .mp3, .wma, and .wav.
when we first put mp3 files in my wife's v3m last night, we got no ring tone at all.. then, we went into settings>security, put in the unlock code (which is usually the last 4 digits of your phone # if you have never changed the code), selected to 'unlock' the phone and VIOLA! The image studio in MPT is fantastic as well.. choose any size image and it will allow you to crop it and then it will automatically resize it to be used as a screensaver (on the v3m it stores the image in your camera.. just go to settings>pictures & videos>my pictures>in camera.... select the pic you uploaded and under options choose to copy to your phone,, it will then show up in settings>display>screensavers...
Why would the creators of BitPim lock the audio folder? Or am I misunderstanding you here? BitPim is not working in its "full potential" for me. I've installed the correct drivers, but not done any seem edits yet. It recognizes the phone and sees its file system, but can't copy the data to my computer. Trying that produces an "exception." I'm confused. You said above BitPim would work on my Verizon v3m w/o seem edits. Did you mean the seem edits are required for MPT to recognize the phone? Yup, I've got that link bookmarked and might use it later. For now, I'm making it a challenge for myself to see what I can do w/o spending any more money. Thanks for your help! -- Karen
Karen, you are correct - seem edits are required for MPT, but not for Bitpim. Bitpim didn't lock the audio folder (if I understand everything correctly), that is from Motorola or Verizon. That stops Bitpim from updating that folder. MPT can work around this, though. Hopefully I'm giving you the right info there! :O As for the exception - what phone type are you using when you setup the phone in Bitpim? I believe there's a V3cm - that would be what you'd want. If there's no V3cm, look for V3c.
I can set it up as either v3c or c3cm and I get the same exception when I try to use BitPim's "get phone data" function. Here's the log leading up to the exception. Can anyone make heads or tails of this? 14:45:31.765 Moto-V3cm: Retrieving fundamental phone information 14:45:31.765 Moto-V3cm: Switching from modem to phonebook 14:45:34.812 Moto-V3cm: Now in phonebook mode 14:45:34.828 Moto-V3cm: Phone serial number 14:45:34.842 Moto-V3cm: Reading group information 14:45:34.858 Exception: BitPim version: 0.9.12-official An unexpected exception has occurred. Karen, which drivers did you install? And after selecting the phone model, what are you choosing for Comm Port?
Most recently, I downloaded and ran something called DriverTool-4.21a.exe from one of the threads on this forum, which I somehow can't find now. Prior to that I had precisely followed all the instructions on this page http://www.hacktherazr.com/guide.start.here.html. Comm Ports -- BitPim automatically found my phone on Comm Port 5, which is on the front of my computer. Later today I moved the USB cagle to the back of my computer, and let BitPim find it, and it turned out to be called Comm Port 6. This didn't help matters.
Ok, lets try something else. I am going to attach a different set of drivers. Unzip them to a location on your hard drive that you know. What you need to do is, once ur phone is connected and charging b/c the drivertool4.21a, right click on My Comp->Properties->Hardware Tab->Device Manager, and go into Modems, and double click on Motorola USB Modem. When the box pops up, go to the driver tab, then click Update Driver. When the hardware qizard pops up, select the bottom button. Then at the next screen, select the bottom one again (dont search, i will choose). At the next screen, click HAVE DISK. Then browse to where you unzipped these drivers I attached, and select USBMOT2000. Once done, go back into BitPim. Select v3cm. For comm port, click BROWSE. FInd Motorola USB Modem listed under "Available Ports". Pick it, then hit ok, and the ok again. And see if it works with Get Phone Data this time. Just curious, could you browse the file system successfully? either before or now after?
Either I'm a real forum dummy, or you forgot the attachment! As of now (w/o your alternate drivers) I am able to see the file system and browse it a little bit. After a while, though, it starts to bog down, eventually becoming unusable, requiring me to ctrl-alt-del out of the program.
Haha, yes, this morning I realized I never attached it! But those symptoms of the file system becoming non-responsive makes me realize it is your drivers. I was having a similar problems, and these drivers I am DEFINITELY attaching should help. The technical jargon is, when the drivers are actually instaling with drivertool4.21a, the "usbsermpt.sys" driver is in action. While this is recommended, some have had problems. So the set I attached herre will install "usbser.sys" and should help. At least I hope so, it is what I ended up having to do...Good luck!
Cincyball, Just found this site this morning and glad I did. Picked up a Verizon Razr V3m this week and thought that I would ba able to upload photos, music, etc. After finding out that is not the case with the phone as delivered I read that there is a way to make it work with Motorola's Phone Tools and some changes to the phone setup. Which is how I found my way here. Have two quick questions. Does your description of the changes required (msgs 30-45 or so from Oct 06) still apply? and also is the best place to pick up MPT from their website? Thanks
Yes, the seem edits and programs described on the first two or so pages of this thread are indeed still accurate. The best place to get it is from www.bvrp.com . When u get there, u can instant download it to your computer. The base price is $39.90, but I have a discount code. Enter BVRPUS and it will give you 50% off, briunging the price to $19.95. Hope this has helped. You still need a usb cable obviously. If u dont have one, i still recomend that process, but go to the store and buy a short usb cable for like $10 or s0.
Cincyball -- OK, got your drivers. The files look the same as the ones I got from hacktherazr.com (file names, sizes, and dates are the same). But your instruction to select USBMOT2000 was new to my procedure. And, yes, it did indeed install usbser.sys instead of usbsermpt.sys. Now I can browse the file structure in BitPim without it hanging up on me, but I still get an exception when trying to use the "get phone data" function. I'm going to poke around some more and see what I can figure out. For example, I'm going to try again with P2KCommander, which didn't work at all for me before. I'll keep you posted. -- Karen
Yea, I am not sure why you are still having problems with BitPim and getting phone data... As for p2kcommander, u need to have MSU running first. Have u been able to get MSU to connect and show your ESN?
Silly me, when I had previously tried p2kcommander I somehow overlooked the step of running MSU. Now I've got that working! I successfully uploaded a photo to my phone . I saw on another thread some instructions for uploading ring tones using p2kcommander. I'll see if I can work through that now. I guess I'll just give up on BitPim. And it looked like such a nice program... Anyway, thanks for your help. -- Karen
Cincyball, Thanks so much. Worked exactly as you said. You instructions and time are very much appreciated. Can't believe that Verizon cripples the RAZR functionality like that. Thanks again
Hey folks, I finally got past the BitPim exception problem .... I tried it with my phone turned on... why didn't I think of that before?:O Also, it's easy to add ringtones w/ p2kcommander. No need to buy MPT or do any seem edits. A good explanation (by our friend Cincyball) on another thread in this forum. Thanks for everything, and sorry to have bothered you all with my stupidity. Bye for now... -- Karen
Please disregard I was looking for rows not offsets. I am just getting started here and have hit a glitch following Cincyball's info! I am looking at seem:2827 but I only see 3 rows (see attached image)! Anyone see this before? Please disregard I was looking for rows not offsets.
Hey Cinyball, Is it possible to get my V3m to sync with WMP11 again? It worked great for a month. Now "NO GO". I tried the fix, Who knows? My MPT still work great. Pictures, MP3 ringtones, Files, all that stuff is great. Thanks for any help. -Geoff
It might sound simple, but are u plugging into the same usb port? Usually it doesnt matter, but it could make it upset. Also, are u using the usb in the BACK of the computer? A lot of the front USB ports arent powered enough like the back ones to make the correct connection.
I am new and for the past 3 days, I have been reading Cincyball’s instructions on seeming the RAZR V3m (Verizon) and finally got the nerve to try it. However, when I try to download MSU, the site is unavailable. I get “The requested URL /app/hacktherazr.com-MSU.exe was not found on this server”. Where can I download Motorola Software Updater? Thanks.
Soiunds like u clicked the "DOWNLOAD" link. Try clicking the actual ICON itself (on the left side), and it will download properly. For some reason, their link is broken when clikcing DOWNLOAD on the right side.
