I'm now trying to figure out how to copy .jpg files onto my RAZR. Am I supposed to be putting .jpg files into the Pictures folder on the mobile phone, when I'm in the Motorola Phone Tools? If so, when I do that, I'm noticing that when I go to Settings and Tools/Display/Wallpaper/Select/Change, not all the .jpg files that I copied onto the phone are actually there. Are they located somewhere else on the phone or is there another procedure to use to load up new wallpaper? Also, is there a way to just get rid of the pre-set pictures that come with the phone? Thanks for the input on this! ....Jason
Ye,a you put them into the /picture folder on the phone. What size are you putting them on as? The screen size is 176x220, so if you arent resizing them first, there is a chance the phone wont be able to display them. As for the stock pictures, you can delete them with BitPim.
Thanks, Cincyball! How would I know the size of the jpg image that I'm copying onto the phone? And, what software do I use to resize it so that it's not too big? Does BitPim do the resizing of a jpg file? Regarding BitPim, I want to know exactly how I should use it. I install it, of course. Then, do I plug in the RAZR with the USB cable and NOT run Motorola Phone Tools? Do I just run BitPim once the phone is attached to the computer? Thanks for the help! .....Jason
I've installed BitPim on my computer but the program is not detecting the RAZR. Can anyone let me know the specific steps I should take to have BitPim detect the phone. What I've done so far is basically turn the phone on, plug the phone into the computer's USB port. Am I missing something here? Is there a different cable I should be using? Thanks for the help! ....Jason
Make sure to exit out of all programs, then open BitPim with your phone plugged in and charging. In settings, set the phone as V3cm. Then for Comm Port, click the Browse button on the right side. In the window that opens, look for "Motorola USB Device" under Available Ports. Select it, hit ok on that screen. Ok on the settings screen. Go to the View Tab, and select View File System. Then in the left window pane, there will be a "File System" icon. Click that. It will open to the window pane on its right, and expandable folder. Open that folder, and you are in the phone's file system.
When I follow this procedure to browse for an available port, the only port that shows as available is the Com 1 port. The Motorola USB port is listed under the category: Ports not available. Your operating system shows this driver and port is correctly configured and a device attached It was not possible to open this port Any clue what I should do next? Thanks! ...Jason
When it says it is under Ports Unavailable, try leaving the program open, unplug the phone, plug it back in, and hit refresh, and see if it gets listed under Available Ports that way. Im going to take a guess that if that didnt work either, you are running either Windows XP Media Center, or Windows 2000?
I have been following this thread but not having luck with my razr. I read (and reread several times...argh) Installed all the software fine (motorola software update and p2k), can make connection find. Edit the first seem fine, move on to second seem, but my phone shows as v3c...not v3mm. I tried it anyway in MPT's but its a no go. Can run the multimedia studio but phone wont connect. Anyone run into this one or have suggestions? Would appreciate any help, thanks in advance
I had partial success, Cincyball. Unplugging the phone and plugging it back in and then doing a refresh did have the result of the Motorola USB listing showing up as available (it had an * next to it for some reason). But when I then try and get data from the phone, I get a message that says "could not open port...process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process." Yes, my operating system is Windows XP Media Center. Is that the problem? Any workaround available, or am I out of luck in terms of using BitPim on this system? Thanks, Jason
That is okay, it doesnt need to be a v3mm. a v3cm is just as good. It should show v.3.c...................... and u need to do the EXACT seem edit listed for the v3m, and it will turn your V3c, into a V3cM...which enables the Multimedia icon in Motorola Phone Tools. So you are on the right track, just continue Let me know if you have any other problems.
For some reason, Windows Media Center HOGS the comm ports on the razr. I think it has something to do with the caller id portion of MCE. What u can try is, go into Device Manager, and go to Modems, and find the Motorola USB Modem, and double click on it, and check the date of the driver. It should be 3/22/06. That will help. But if it doesnt, the only way I can get it to work with MCE on my bro's comp is to have the phone OFF when connected to BitPim ,and it will connect and transfer fine. Best of luck!
Cincy...., I was reading page 2 of this thread where you told wcolton that when you do the second seem edit, you will see v3mM on the top left...i was doing the seem edits and i didnt find that..can u help me..oh and does mpt for razr v3 work for the razr v3m. if not which one does??
Were u referring to this: If so, it is because it is in the top RIGHT corner. Yes, MPT works with all razr's, just differently with the v3 b/c it is a GSM phone, and i am unfamiliar with that style razr
My Motorola driver is dated 12/2/04. I tried doing the Update Driver while in Device Manager but Windows then said, after doing a search, that nothing newer was available. If I don't have the phone on while plugged into the computer, I can't do the refresh procedure which allows the Motorola listing to show up in the available list. But when I turn the phone off, I still am getting the "can't access the port" message. So, what do you think? ...Jason
it didnt detect my phone it says: Motorola Phone Tools has not detected you mobile phone. Do you want to update the phone list, and then redirect the phone? An Internet connection is required. yes or no what do i do?
tried it a third time with same results., showing as v3c. I am sure I am entering the info in the correct offsets, what else would be obvious beginner error?
what version of MPT do u have installed. You should have at least 4.21a only thing i can think of is, u arent hitting "save to phone" once doing the seem edit
Tell it yes, and it will update. This will allow it to get the new phone list and recognize your phone.
I have the same problem that most people has. I have the cable and the MPT installed and it still doesnt detect my v3m. it says "do you want to manually install your phone with mobile phone tool?" and when i say press YES and i click v3 as my device model...and eventually it the little phone appears but it says "MOBILE NOT CONNECTED"
only thing i can think of is, u arent hitting "save to phone" once doing the seem edit[/QUOTE] Actually "save to phone" twice, after each seem edit. When I save it I dont see any other on screen prompts. It seems to save it instantly, it is rather fast. Is that right?

You know its correct when u load up the seem the next time and all the values u changed are still there.
Cincyball, I've been following your excellent posts for the last three or four days. I have two new Verizon Razrs, and have been able to take advantage of your wisdom to successfully get Motorola Phone Tools operating properly on both devices. Yesterday, I was even able to get Bitpim and PKseem to operate properly. Unfortunately, today is another day, and there is no way I can get Motorola Software Update to recognize my phone. The Motorola modem shows up in the unavailable ports portion of the box. When I attempt to run MSU, it finds and installs three are for new devices. When I looked in device manager, I find three subentries under Motorola devices. I was fairly certain that yesterday, there were four sub-entries present. Any advice you can offer to get me back to where I can operate PKseem again, will be appreciated. I believe I reached traced my steps, as per your directions. It almost appears that something has been installed that needs to be removed. Of course I've no idea what that might be. Thanks for your help. JLOB
John, welcome to WA. There should only be 3 sub-entries. 4 drivers get installed however. Just make sure u have no other programs running when using msu and p2kseem. MSU needs to be running, then p2kseem opened with msu still going. If using bitpim, or mpt, those need to be run spearately without the other going. Otherwise, the comp wont know which driver to use.

I have saved both seem backups, is the process straight forward to restore phone to original state? I am thinking just load from file the backups and write to phone, but I would like to make sure first. Would appreciate your input. Thanks for all your help though
Yes, load up the seem from your phone u want to change, then hit load from file and find it on ur comp. Then hit save to phone.
I reloaded the seem from the beginning again (read from phone), the first seem change is on my phone (enable bluetooth and usb transfers) is checked, so assuming that seem "took" ok. Redid the second one also, but still showing as v3c. stumped
