Jason, p2kseem doesnt install, its just an exe that runs. MSU does install drivers however. If when you run it, it doesnt start trying to install drivers, make sure u dont have any program open that would be using the phone, such as MPT or P2Kseem. Close everything, install MSU if u havent already, then plug in phone and open MSU. It shoudl THEN start installing 4 different drivers. Once done properly, it will display your ESN, and you are good to open P2Kseem. You must have MSU open when u are running p2kseem for it to show connected. Always close programs and unplug phone before starting new programs so that the phone can refresh its drivers. Let me know if u have any probs. CLH, as for the pink v3m, you should be able to use it with MPT. I have heard probs with getting the phone to run to use p2kseem. Let me know where u gete stuck and we can try to work around it.
Well, I want to use p2k seem to get the multimedia studio. But when I use MSU to install the drivers, it cant find them.
I am still looking around. I cant find any answers for getting drivers to work with the NEWC_1.09.02 f/w. I would say, try not using MSU, and try just opening p2kseem and see if it connects without MSU...Ill keep looking.
Cincyball, Can't Thank You enough for this thread and the directions on page 2 ... I followed the seem edits and backups. MSU loads etc... Only thing different for me was MPT had been loaded for my old V3 and I had to change it to work with this V3M... But I had found a link somewhere else that showed my how to do that and Bingo, I uploaded a ringtone .... Can't thank you enough......
Glad to have helped. Although MPT should have auto-detected your phone. You need to have at least version 4.21a for it to auto detect properly. But at any rate, if it aint broke, dont fix it Have fun!
When I plug my pink RAZR into the USB port on my Windows XP system, the message on the RAZR screen says "unauthorized charger." If I run Motorola Phone Tools after plugging in the phone this way, the MPT software also doesn't recognize the phone is there. I must be missing something to have this happen. I have not yet altered the two seem files because I think I have to have this symptom cleared up first, yes? Thanks for help on this! ....Jason
I had read about updating my mpt and do have ver 4.21a but had tried working with mpt and theV3m before and prolly screwed up the settings. Then I found this site and the great instructions here. Can't thank you guys enough for the help and patience.....
Hey Cincyball, I did the reinstall thing. Now I'm checking seem, When I looked it went back to seem:41a..........Record..1..........Bytes(h)...7a........ So I'm starting over the process, and when I go through first step (seem 2742......) I still see a BLANK screen. No bits checked, no info in box. It does say phone connected. Any idea??? Thanks, Geoff
Need help! I've went through the whole process of install / uninstall. No dice. The MLU is trying to update from 3.18 to 3.19. The whole process fails!! Error message (I posted earlier) I guess it's a lost cause. (At least my PC charges my phone :lmao: ) It came with a charger. Is there a way to put the phone software back to it's original software ???? That way I can start completely over....If I never had seen it work, I guess it would'nt be so upsetting. It was working !! 1. (phone tools)Won't recognize my phone......2. MLU won't install the update from 3.18 to 3.19........3. Grrrrrrrrrrr!!!!.... But on the plus side, My PC will charge my phone.:lmao: ....................Any help for me ???? Thanks, Geoff
HI CINCYBALL I TRIED THE STEPS YOU GIVEN IN THIS FORUM, BUT FAILED TO SEEM MY NEW V3M AND NEED BADLY YOUR HELP. I AM VERIZON CUSTOMER AND MY COMPUTER GOT WiNDOWS 2000 PROFESSIONAL EDITION WITH USB 1.1 Let me explain what i did exactly ---------------------------------- 1. I updated MPT to 4.21a, then MPT identified my phone. 2. I downloaded MSU & P2Kseem. 3. Tried to install MSU first and finally opened a display box, on left side it is showing that " my phone is not connected ". 4 Tried above steps several times but end up with the same result Please help me to get rid this problem
You NEED to get MSU installed correctly first. I do not know why it isnt working. Make sure you have Service Pack 4.
Cincyball, I have gotten stuck on this step. My bitmap disappeared, all but the last three lines. I went back and opened MSU again, got connected, then ran pk2seem again but the bitmap still stays at three lines. I did get the second seem saved (I hope!) before the bitmap shrank. The directions are great and I could follow them right up to this point. I'm a newb at this. John
I hate to reveal the depths of my newbieness, but I have to tell you: I don't know how to take a screen shot. :loony: I will have to go back through the procedure again up to the trouble point to get the screen up, so if you can tell me how to send it to you, I will gladly do so. Thanks very much! John
Cincyball, I have repeated the steps up to the point where I run P2k (step 32). I am connected in MSU and on the Pk2 screen. This time when I run P2k, the P2k screen is empty, nothing in any boxes, and above the Load box there are no bits to change. I can type in 2742 or whatever is needed, and I have to type in 0001 since that box is empty too. I see no place to type in the bits - there is no box. When I did all this for the very first time I did get the bitmap and could go to offset 0006, but this time there is no bitmap - just that big empty white box. I'm stumped because i thought after restarting the computer and phone and reconnecting, I could go on from there. John
You can do seem edits with p2k without MSU showing your EN number. For me MSU hangs, once it hangs I just fireup P2K and when P2k shows connected I am able to make my seem edits, and upload. The drawback is that it is slow. For some odd reason this works for me. I guess bottom line is that P2k, just needs to show "Connected" in the bottom left corner.
That helps. I thought from the previous posts MSU had to be up and connected. If I can't get the bitmap from the phone, I don't see how I can do any edits. I followed the steps just as you gave them and it all looked good until the bitmap disappeared.
You dont see the bits UNTIL u load the seem. You type in the seem number, the record, and the BYTES. Hiut load from phone. Then look for the offset. Once in the offset, locat the BIT (not Bytes...BIT).
Thank you! I will go through the process again, but I do not think there was any box to type in the BYTES. I will look again. I'm getting the hang of what's supposed to happen.
Here is a sample screen shot from my phone if I were changing the USB Data cable seem edit.... Seem 2742, Record 1, Bytes 0000, Offset 006a, Bit 0 - Check to On
Thanks for the screen shot! I went through the steps again and all seemed to work properly. I closed out of p2k after it connected again, and out of MPU. Then I started MPT. The multimedia link is there, grayed out, and MPT can't seem to find the phone. I've tried various combinations of starting MPT and connecting the phone but the results are unchanged - MPT keeps saying to "wait" - 'initializing" etc. I must have made some error in the seem edits.
Make sure ALL programs are closed before running MPT. And also, if u had JUST used a program, u need to unplug your phone, and plug it back in again, so that it will release the phone from the previous program so that MPT can find the phone.
I did that - closed all running programs, went off on an errand with the phone in my pocket, came back and connected the phone. I let MPT look for the phone for about 15 minutes with no success. Maybe I need to go back into p2k, load the original files back to the phone, and do it all over again. It's very nice of you to help!
You can try that. Also, make sure your MPT is at least version 4.21a, or 4.36. If it is outdated, it might not recognize your phone.
After I found this thread I tried several times to get this working. I was able to get MPT working easily enough, but never could get MSU to detect the phone. It would just hang. Tried different drivers, different MSU versions tried a W2K machine and an XP machine.... same result. Checking the ...PST_Core.log files in the MSU program directory I see a bunch of these messages: 01/20/07 19:00:20 CPSTUSBSession::Read Data call timed out 01/20/07 19:00:22 CPSTUSBSession::Write Data failed for timeout 01/20/07 19:00:30 CPSTUSBSession::Read Data call timed out 01/20/07 19:00:31 CPSTUSBSession::Read Data caused GetOverlappedResult error, 1f I also discovered that if I waited long enough (15 - 20 minutes), MSU would come back with the message "Your device is not completely powered up" and it would just have "N/A" for the info on the left hand side of the screen. I also noticed the screen saver on the phone had frozen. The last time this happened I just fired up P2KSeem anyway and it said "connected". I followed Cincy's instructions to enable USB and Multimedia and bang! It worked. Wish I had read the entire thread prior to this as I see Unga had the same problem. Anyway, great thread Cincy. I was pretty PO'ed when I found out what Verizon had done to this phone and was going to change it or brick it in the process.
My MPT is ugraded to4.21a. Before I started messing with the seems MPT would recognize my phone but of course the Multimedia section was not visible at all. I did reload the phone with the saved seems and tried again to use MPT. The Multimedia section show up but is grayed out as are all the rest of the items, and MPT won't recognize my phone even if I leave it trying for an hour or so.:crying: All I can think to do is to go back to the beginning of the thread and try working through all the steps again. However, I'm pretty sure the problem is with the saved and reloaded seems. If everything came back to the way it was before, the phone should be recognized by MPT and Mutilmedia should be absent again, or so it appears to me. At least I haven't bricked it yet, so I guess that's something!
Ditto on the thanks. I have been fumbling around trying to get the seem edits to work for quite some time. Your step by step help worked like a charm!
I have successfully changed the seem files for my 3 pink RAZR phones. I have an interesting symptom and I'd like to ask if others can see if this symptom can be replicated or not. The following symptom occurs on ALL 3 RAZR phones, even if I'm using different wall chargers: I turn off the phone. I plug the RAZR into the wall socket using the charger and I plug the other end of the charger into the phone unit. The phone indicates that it's charging. So far, no problem. However, if I unplug the charger unit from the wall outlet directly the RAZR will, after a minute or so, power up as though I am turning on the phone. This occurs with all 3 pink RAZR phones and occurs using 3 different wall chargers. If I am charging the phone, and unplug the RAZR from the charger by pulling out the wire that is plugged directly into the phone itself, the phone does not power up (which is the correct behavior -- it's not supposed to turn on). So, the symptom only occurs when I unplug the charger directly from the wall outlet while the phone is plugged into the charger at the phone end. It does not occur when I unplug the phone from the charger and leave the charger plugged into the wall outlet. I hope I'm describing this clearly. I'd greatly appreciate if other RAZR users can try and replicate this situation, so I won't think I'm nuts. And, would having changed the seem files on all 3 phones be causing this behavior? Thanks for the help! ...Jason
Yea Jay, this has been reported before over on another forum. I dont believe there was any fix or anything like that, just appears to be a glitch. I guess u could bring it back to vzw, but not sure how much they can do. It is a silly glitch however. But I have heard of this...
