You need to get it to at least 4.21a. And per the beginning of this thread, u need to do those 2 seem edits so MPT will allow u to use multimedia.

Does the info in this thread pertain to Alltel phones as well? I've dl'd the MSU and p2k seem edit. Before I continue, I want to make sure I don't kill my phone. Thanks.

No, this doesnt apply to the Alltel Razr. Your phone is already set to go. Verizon customers have to do this because Verizon disables these features. If u have MPT, you are good to go with the program. There are some seem edits u can do to make ur phone a little better, but nothing to increase fuinctionality.

Thanks, I got as far as this from your instructions on page 2 before I thought about it. I did this and saved the original seem file. Did I screw anything up?

"in the lower right side of the screen, there is a "load" box. Next to seem, type 2742. Leave record as 1. Then above that, change bytes to 0000. Then hit load from phone. ok, u are probably looking at a whole bunch of stuff u dont recognize, haha. Now we are going to save a copy of your original seem. Click save to file in lower right corner. Pick a spot on ur comp. u have just saved ur original file."

Nope, thats fine. All u did was save the original. In fact, if u kept going, and tried to change per the instructions, you would have seen that this change is already done on your phone. SO you are fine, just use MPT now :D

 OK, I followed the thread. My Verizon Razr V3m now has the Mult. Media button. The problem I'm having is changing music format. It starts as windows media 11 format. I need to change it (somehow) to MP3 format, so I can transfer music as a ringtone. When I click the (from PC to PHONE) Icon, it gives a pop-up of wrong media format. Any answers for me??? Thanks, Geoff

Just use ypur favorite file changing program, such as Audacity, etc. And change your settings in WMP 11 to have it import/rip songs as mp3 format rather than wma format for future use.

OK, I have downloaded and trying to use Audacity, I don't know the first step in what to do. Do I transfer music to it? Do I play music through it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really want to make my first ringtone. (Not sure why) Maybe because it kinda sticks it to Verizon charging for ringtones???? THX, Geoff

Just open your wma file in Audacity, crop it to the 30 second clip u want to use as a ringtone, then hit, export selection as mp3. It has been a while since i have used audacity, so newer versions may be different. I was just throwing a program out there, I guess you could search for a better one of that doesnt work.

They were .mp3 files, and they went into the shared/audio folder where all the other ringtones were. Some of the ringtones were .mid files, some were .mp3, but the phone played them all the same. My new ringtone showed in the list just the like the others, it just wouldn't play it.

I tried renaming an .mp3 to .mid, and then uploding it, as I'd read in another forum somewhere, but that had no effect either.

It seems that the filesystem is locked somehow. When I used BitPim to try to download the ringtones, it tells me it's unable to retrieve the files. It can see the files, but cannot download them. I had the same problem with P2K Commander.

However, Motorola's own MPT can't even see the files in the folders. Shows nothing at all, just as if they're empty. They only time MPT will show files is if I put them there, but if the phone won't play 'em it doesn't really matter.

Hey Cincyball i've tried to install the p2k drivers for my Apm'd Mobile V3M but the drivers i've tried won't work, i tried:
    E815-V710-DriverPack1
    MSU106Drivers
    Razr V3C Usb Driver.
The computer recongizes the phone and charges and everything, but once i try to use it with MSU so i can use p2k programs it wont work. You think you could help me? Thanks in advance.

    Cincyball,
I finally got MPT to install after contacting Motorola and they furnished me a direct download link after the download from Motostore failed to load.

Anyway, now I'm trying to get the multimedia icon to show up in MPT. I installed the driver per your instructions and also the fix which allows the Razr to sync with WMP.

My problem is that the motorola software update doesn't think the phone is connected. It doesn't show the IMEI number and shows the device is not connected. I don't get it. I haven't tried the SEEM edits because of this issue. How can the phone sync with WMP and link with MPT but not MSU?

I've tried this on 2 different computers and got the furthest on my laptop. It's Windows XP MEdia Center edition.

    Any ideas?

I don't know what was different this time but I tried again after my last post and it finally recognized the phone in MSU. The rest of the proceedure went fine. I think I'm happy now but the poster above me looks like he has the same issue. Sorry I don't know what I did differently or I'd say what is was.

Thanks! I've got a lot of help from the posts here. I would have never figured all this out on my own.

A lot of great help and hacks in this thread. Just to let others know Cincyball has been great help (as well as others) If your NEW like I was and unsure, Don't be. I followed every thread fr: page 1, got through it. The only thing I have to do know is find a program (easy to use) to convert my CD's in WMP 11 to .mp3 format. I still have'nt made my first ringtone yet. (But I know have the option of the mult. media button) If anyone has a easy solution for me, I appreciate the input, tomarrow after work I'll check in here. Thanks to everyone, Geoff

    Geoff,
If you're ripping your own CDs you can just set the output type to mp3 in WMP rather than WMA. If you already have tracks ripped, you'll need a converter. You should be able to find PD applications to do this on tucows or someplace similar.

This is in the wrong thread. This is for MPT. Try this thread here -> http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/razr-phones/59219-getting-your-v3c-m-connected.html

Just make sure that your file names are less than 37 characters. Anythig too long and the phone doesnt like it. Also, default files on the phone wont show up in MPT. BitPim wont allow access to the audio folder. And if u thing a folder is "locked", load up p2kcommander, and check the attributes of the folder to make sure "read only" is UNCHECKED.

:) I'm back, I made my first ringtones, No more "get it now" from Verizon, $2.99 is too much money for a 15 seconds of ringtone. Way tooo much! Now they are FREE!!! Thank you everyone. Hey is there a way we can share software on here? I'll share my disc, if it's possible??. Thanks everyone. -Geoff

Geoff, glad you have it all figured out. Makes things start to feel even between u and verizon now right?

Unfortuantely, these forums do not permit the sharing of software, otherwise, we would call it freeware ;)

It is amazing we can discuss some of what we do. So not free software, aka Warez, it is against the TOS. Id hate for a forum liek this to get shut down. Take care.

My filename was 'fightsong.mp3'. It showed up fine on the ringtone list on the phone, but when clicked on the 'Play' button nothing happened.

From MTP I could play the file from the phone, but for some reason the phone itself just does not like it.

    I'll recap my steps:

Used Melody Maker to trim the song and upload it to the phone. Transfer complete OK.

View the file in Melody Maker and play it back. Works fine.

Disconnect the phone, turn it off and back on. (Just in case.)

Go to Master Volume (or Manage Music) and scroll down to the ringtone 'fightsong' and select it to preview/play. Nothing happens.

    What now? :help:

OK. After frying one of these suckers and getting a new phone, I'm still not deterred.

This time, I'm having trouble with MSU. I can run MPT (with the software recognizing the phone as a V3m). All the appropriate drivers appear in device manager. But when I launch MSU, the mobile phone icon appears but it says the phone is not connected. I get no EIN number. If I try to do anything else on my computer, MSU hangs.

BUT when I load P2Kseem, it apparently is communicating with the phone (I can download seems from the phone).

Because of my history of frying this phone (and I don't think any amount of sweet talking will get me a third one from Verizon), I'm hesitating to make any changes.

    Any suggestions?
