Oh my god........ someone stop this giant company that tries to monopolize everything named verizon. how good were the days of AirTouch.

I got the KRZR K1M about a week ago and the phone is sleep and turns head. Unfortunately, when you open it up, you see that Ugly user-interface that Verizon has put in. It is an ABSOLUTE JOKE. They totally screwed up the phone. I am going to return my KRZR just because of the damn user interface and switch to T-MOBILE as soon as the KRZR is released for them. I have heard that the ALLTEL version of the KRZR K1M works on verizon network with some minor mods. And their verison has the motorola user interface. Does anyone know anything about this? Are there any programs that would allow us to change the user-interface from the vz to the regular motorola one? please email me asap @ speedyhen@gmail.com

    thanks

You can purchase an unlocked KRZR for any GSM provider now. They are a bit more expensive, but you don't have to worry about the VZW UI, and the red UGLY bars.

It wouldn't work anyways as Verizon Wireless uses a different Technology...

You would have to put an Alltel Monster pack on the phone to correct the UI, then manually go back and set all of the MMS and internet settings back to Verizon so you could text & surf the net. Its a complicated way to do it, and since the KRZR is such a new model I seriously doubt that an Alltel monster pack is available for download at this time.

The original poster said that he might be interested in changing over to T-Mobile, which is a GSM provider, therefore, the phone that I listed and linked to would work. Please read the entire post/s before commenting. Thank you.

One of my friends splurged and went ahead and got the ALLTEL version of the KRZR and it indeed has the Motorola interface and isn't nearly as crippled as what I hear about the Verizon version. If you're in an area where you can get ahold of an ALLTEL KRZR rapidly the best thing to do would be to switch your service over to ALLTEL if that's the phone you want and you are in an area where that's possible. Even with some of the download programs that will probably be out, some phones have problems doing anything but texting and making calls. If you try out the ALLTEL network you might find that their coverage is on pace or possibly better than Verizon depending on your location. Is there a reason you didn't consider switching to them because they do have nice coverage and plans? This way you could get the KRZR and not have to give up all that coverage that you would by switching to T-Mobile. Verizon and Sprint would always be in the PRL as a backup.

 No I truly am not.

Just an enthusiast I admit and someone addicted to online forums! ;) But it has come with an interest to me because I use to be with Verizon and it seemed like that's who absolutely everybody glorifies as the provider with the best coverage. I've heard so many people talk about going with Verizon because of better national coverage. When my last contract ran out sometime in late May/early June I started doing some research on the technology, providers, etc. and just became interested in cell phone technology. I found Alltel to be the best value pricewise and went with a MyCircle plan. After using their coverage I even found that it was better than Verizon in the areas that I traveled. So it was a situation i was really happy with. You always hear that a happy customer tells one person while an unhappy customer tells 100 about their experience. I'm the exact opposite and it applies to more than just cell phone service.

But talking to other people whenever I would get into a conversation about cell phone technology I found so much misinformation in the general population about Alltel. Some people think they're always roaming because Alltel uses a flashing 'free roam' signal even on other Alltel networks. Some people told me to switch back to Verizon because I'll have better national coverage (not true because of the free roam). It seemed like so many other people had never heard of them because Verizon has the name recognition with landline and cable service in my area. So in a way, I'm just trying to get the word out because in my experience it seems like there's a lot of people that just don't know, or don't realize how Alltel is an option that provides good coverage while being a break from Verizon's prices. My main goal I guess is to provide insight where I can, but if I don't have a clue about coverage in a location, just to let them know that Alltel is an option.

Beyond that, I do get involved in many of the topics around here. With the number of your posts you seem kind of new to the site, but I just have an interest in the technology and after hanging around this and other sites for several months just enjoy hearing about the technology changes and alterations. It's a truly dynamic business that is perhaps one of the most competitive in America. But I don't care at all to recommend Verizon or Sprint or Cingular after I try to find reviews on certain locations. But in this Moto forum, it's just that the Alltel KRZR is really the only option other than the VZW form and has so much more functionality. Hope I cleared that up for you! :) I think it's pretty obvious that no cell provider would pay somebody to spend the time on here that I do! ;)
