Most all Carriers Roaming Policies

I thought I would go through and post some of the domestic roaming policies of most of the US mobile companies. Now remember it does not mean they are enforced. This information is from each carriers respective website from their terms and conditions.

AT&T

Off-net Usage: If your minutes of use (including unlimited services) on other carrier networks ("off-net usage") during any two consecutive months exceeds your off-net usage allowance, AT&T may at its option terminate your service, deny your continued use of other carriers' coverage, or change your plan to one imposing usage charges for off-net usage. Your off-net usage allowance is equal to the lesser of 750 minutes or 40% of the Anytime Minutes included with your plan. AT&T will provide notice that it intends to take any of the above actions, and you may terminate the agreement.

Verizon Wireless

You’re "roaming" whenever you make or receive a call using a transmission site outside your Home Rate and Coverage Area, or using another company’s transmission site. Your wireless phone may sometimes connect to and roam on another company’s network even when you’re within your Home Rate and Coverage Area or Local Calling Area. There may be extra charges (including charges for long distance, tolls, or calls that don’t connect) and higher rates for roaming calls, depending on your Plan.

Sprint

Not available with single-band phones, or to customers residing outside an area covered by the Nationwide Sprint PCS Network. Sprint may terminate service if (1) more than 800 minutes, (2) a majority of minutes or (3) a majority of data kilobytes in a given month are used while roaming. International calling, including in Canada and Mexico, is not included in roaming-included plans. Roaming usage may be invoiced after 30-60 days. Vision/Power Vision services and certain calling features (Voicemail, Caller ID, Call Waiting, etc.) may not be available in all roaming areas.

Alltel

You may incur additional charges for roaming or long distance calls. Rates and charges while roaming outside of your local Alltel service area may be different from your Alltel service area rates.

T-Mobile

Except to the extent prohibited by law, billing of roaming charges and minutes or Services used may be delayed or applied against included minutes or Services in subsequent billing cycles, which may cause you to exceed your included minutes or Services in a particular billing cycle. Roaming and other call rating (such as time of call) depend on the location of the network equipment providing Service for a particular call and not the location of the Phone. For billing purposes, you agree not to rely on indicators on your Phone (such as roaming and call time), which may be inaccurate.

Alltel said:

Termination By Us

We may limit, interrupt, terminate or refuse to provide a Service for the following reasons, or for any other good cause:

(d) if you modify your wireless phone or any software residing thereon from the original manufacturer specifications, including for the purpose of accessing non-Alltel services, (e) if your Service is used in a manner that is excessive or unreasonable with respect to volume or length of calls when compared to the predominant volume or length of call of other customers on a similar rate plan or in your geographic area, or (f) if the majority of your Service is used roaming on a network not owned or operated by Alltel.

We may restore such interrupted or terminated Service, in our sole discretion, following your correction of the violation and payment of any amounts due, including any restoration charge we assess for restoring your Service.

Is anything in bold really enforced?
I've heard it was rare, but I haven't heard of any actual cases...

probably only if you lived in a non-alltel area and consistantly did thousands off minutes off network. then you would probably show up on the radar.

does your my circles work while roaming? Just Wondering

Oh yes, Unlimited My Circle while roaming, well-worth it.
I think same goes for T-Mobile's Faves.

I'm going to NJ next week for a week, and I'll be using at least 1000 My Circle minutes while there.

Thanks for posting this Ryan, it's good to know what the major carrier's policies are regarding roaming considering how often roaming questions are asked.
