After a previous post about Nextel, I started searching the site for other Nextel posts. I've noticed that there are not many about Nextel. That leads to my question. Are there not many people out there using Nextel, or are the Nextel users so happy, they don't have any reason to be on this site?
you might want to check out the HoFo threads -- particularly the NEXTEL forum. HoFo NEXTEL forums Some of these might also be in the Motorola sub-forums.
Honestly I haven't seen a lot of Nextel users on this board. Howard Forums has a lot more Nextel users. You might want to try there. Nextel Forum
Haha nsx1164 I see we posted about the same time. I didn't see your post until after I had posted this. I guess we was thinking the same thing
Most Nextel users don't have time to complain, to busy working to pay their overpriced Nextel service. j/k
it's the 7th grade comments like above why most Nextel users don't post..... too much unwarranted bashing just for the sake of bashing.
Okay, seriously DandyDon you really need to lighten up. Have you ever herd of a joke? guess not. By the way I have 42 phones with Nextel and spend more money with them then you probably make, so next time you feel the need to make fun of my "7th grade" comment please, have your facts straight.
I thought the nextel forum was the largest of the bunch @ HOFO. Wireless Advisor does not seem to be Nextel country..
Thanks for all the constructive help. I just wish all on this forum could help instead of just look for a reason to make a smart a-- remark. Most are helpful. Since I personally don't spend much time going from one phone or carrier to the other, I didn't know my way around and had never heard of HoFo. I found HoFo and it looks like I'm switching to Nextel.
Cozz36 be very careful with Nextel. While they seem to be fine in major citys and on the interstate system if you go off the beaten path you may find yourself with no signal when you need one. Nextel phone's will not roam off the Nextel Network so make sure you check there coverage maps to make sure they have coverage where you need it.
Since Cozz36 is in KY, the only carriers to avoid at all costs are probably Verizon and Sprint. I don't know how Nextel is in KY, but I was very impressed with their semi-rural coverage in Oregon...it beat Sprint and Verizon easily.
I live in a rural area 45 miles NE of Louisville. For some reason, Nextel decided to put a tower there when no one else would. My dad travels the county with his job and they just switched to Nextel. He had Cingular with his job before and Verizon as his personal phone and now both are switched to Nextel. He claims he's getting service in places he never could with Verizon and Cingular. I've got 15 days once I get the phone to decide if it works for me. It's worth a try.
Given that info, definately worth the shot. Keep us posted as to when you switch, what phone you get, and how your trial goes ok?
My uncle has some lines with Nextel. From what I have heard he seems to be happy with them. He lives in a very rural part of my area and his Nextel phone seems to do fine where he lives. I've seem some Nextel phones around here work in some places I'm surprised they did. However I myself could not handle Nextel. They are too limited to the interstate and local metro area and they have a huge no coverage spot in Western NC. In and around Asheville, NC there is quite a big dead spot for Nextel where there is just no service and everbody else in that area works just fine. I rarely go there but when I do I want to be able to use my phone with Nextel I would not be able to use my phone there.
TN Dan. Maybe Nextel sponsoring NASCAR'S top series will help you out. I just read the other day that Nextel is scared to death that fans are gonna go to races and not be able to use their Nextel phones. All areas around tracks (Bristol) will be beefed up to handle all of the extra traffic. Maybe this will spill over to the Kingsport area. Can you imagine showing up at a race track and seeing all of these Nextel billboards and then can't get a signal? That's bad publicity. NYC Dru. I ordered service today and my phone won't be available till Monday. That stinks. Something about Nextel partners. I got the i60 phone because it was $0.99. Next flip up was $139.00. My plan is $39.99 for 750 anytime with unlimited N/W and unlimited Direct Connect. No long distance charges also. I've got 15 days to try it out. I'll update when I get my phone.
Nextel is fine in Kingsport and Bristol. Thats part of the metro area where pretty much everybody works. Except Sprint PCS which just sucks in this area. Nextel just needs to work on that large gap of no coverage in Western NC and I would be happy.
Reports have it Ashville is online as we speak. Just building out more towers to fill all the corridors.
Seeing as how suposedly NASCAR fans are 2-5 times more likely to buy products that are advertised at there sports events than other fans, NEXTEL better beef up the entire south. Or they wiull be in BIG trouble in a year. Yuo have an awsome plan on youre area then. In my area 39.99 won't get you nerly that much. Are you suyree its $39.99 and not more? Is it a local plan or National?
You will not be happy with NEXTEL I live in Louisville and had nothing but problems. No service in downtown louisville they told me I was in a fringe area. (A major city) Had them for 2 years from 09/2001 to 09/2003. Was not happy and they are way overpriced. I have a I30sx for sale and a sim card.
I now have the i60 and Nextel service...at least for 15 days. First impression: after saying I'm not in to all of the bells and whistles when it comes to phones, maybe I am. Getting the entry level phone is hard to deal with after I've had the VX 4400 from Verizon. However, I have to admit, I get coverage in more places than Verizon (including at my house). If I can round up some more direct connect people I might be set. So far all I can talk to is my Dad. It'll get better. As for Louisville, it's rare that I go downtown but do go to the east end often (St. Matthews, Hurstborne, Springhurst). I've been told coverage out that way is good.
I live in Louisville (East End - Spinghurst area) and I haven't had any problems with Nextel at all. I've been all over Louisville and have always had a signal (I work downtown and my works perfectly). I have driven up I-71 to Cincinnati and up I-65 to Indianapolis and had service the entire time. Each person's situation is different but all of my friends have Nextel and none of us have had any problems. Nextel is by far the best carrier I've had in Louisville (previously I've had BellSouth Mobility (now Cingular), Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T Wireless).
Wow, you should know which one works best! Glad to hear the feedback. Sounds like we travel some of the same territory.
Glad to hear it's working out for you so far. I am even happier that coverage is good, and better than reported from some. And to hear it's even better than Verizon is good to know, I have been hearing that more and more from people in General. Keep in mind, unlike Verizon you will NEVER see a roaming charge nor will there be new PRL's to download to the phone.... if you have a signal it's Nextels' network you are on. HOFO is good for info, if you ever need help or have questions feel free to PM me. Additionally, sounds like you are in a Partners market. Nextel Partners is a different company from Nextel Communications........ typically better pricing but the service and everything else is the same.
I work in the East end and I can tell you that you will have problems. Iam a Police Officer in the 1st district Bardstown Rd., Taylorsville Rd. and zorn Ave Shelbyville Rd area and you will have problems. expectially in the senca park area and the Bardstown Rd area. I have called NEXTEL numerous times and they tell me that it is a fringe area not only 611 customer service but local NEXTEL technicians from eastpointe service center. They have had numerous complaints from the East end and downtown area. Everything from no service to constant dropped calls from handoffs to other towers. If you dont believe me I can tell you were every NEXTEL tower in that area is. Surprisingly were I was having the most problem was Bardstown Rd. and I264 and they have a INDOOR tower at sullivian college. 3255 Bardstown Rd. You can Call Nextel and ask them they will tell you the same info. I went through numerous phones and still did not help. I hope you have better luck than I did. Oh yea dont go 10 miles outsisde of Lextington in either direction or all you will have is good paper weight. Can't make any calls.
FYI re Asheville: FCC ULS is showing numerous new sites "pending level 2" in the Asheville area...sites in Weaverville, Black Mountain, Naples, etc. -SC
I guess my friends and myself are just lucky that we haven't had any problems with Nextel at all. I've traveled around the Bardstown Rd/I-264 area (along with Cherokee and Seneca parks) and have never lost a signal. I live near Super Wal-Mart on Westport Rd and have had continuous coverage around that area (including Eastpoint Business Park). Same goes with my friends. People will experience problems with every cell phone provider and not all providers are perfect. I say try Nextel for the 15 day period and if it works for you and does everything you need, then there you go. You may have problem in certain areas and you may not (it's just a flip of the coin).
Nextel in my opinion has the best service where the phone works. Meaning, my Nextel beats my vzon service hands down in audio quality and dropped calls. But the Nextel is limited to the tke mid to large citys and inerstates. I bet Nextel will start building out big time in the next few years now that Sprint and Verizon have push to talk, or in Verizons case, push to wait!
You failed to mention that you have a Motorola T730 on Verizon and well...thats a large part of your problem.
