2 years ago ATTWS and T-Mobile was a Dead Zone in the Montclair
University Football Field but VZW has 1 Bar.
It was reported to ATTWS during that time.
    Today Cingular has 3 Bars
    coming back after 2 years.
I don't know how long it took them
but there were Cingular customers using their Phones.
2 years ago they would have been Dissapointed.

T-Mobile (and I believe Sprint/Nextel) are still dead there I believe. Cingular TDMA was always dead and it is still dead there. But Cingular GSM has service in that area since AT&T deployed 850Mhz before the acquisition. That's because there were a number of GSM-only sites AT&T installed during 2004.

I remember we were talking about this almost a year ago when I was in Montclair and couldn't get a AWE signal in Rascal's and you were saying the college was a dead spot as well. It's good to know they did something about the coverage there.

They must have fixed that spot now. T-Mobile has been very active installing new cell sites here all this year. New sites with their panels keep popping up everywhere and all their old sites are having all their panels replaced with 2 fat panels down from 4. I wonder what that is all about.

So many dead spots sure takes years to cover up. ;)

The new trend is to not have as many panels per sector as the old days. I believe new technology has allowed the reduction in panels. Sprint has gone from 4 panels, to 2 panels and now down to 1 panel per sector here in So. Cal.

In addition to that, the difference between CDMA and GSM may have something to say there. I've never seen a Sprint site with more than 2 panels in my area, and Verizon uses no more than 3 panels (due to AMPS) whereas T-Mobile, Cingular, and even AT&T (back in the days) had many sites with 4 panels. However, both Cingular and T-Mobile are installing exclusively 1 or 2 panels per sector today.

Cingular, however, cannot do less than 2 panels because of their 850/1900Mhz configuration.

Nextel, on the other hand, seems stuck with 4 panels/sector on every site I've seen.

Verizon's sites here (such as that "RT 80" Exit 63 pole), all were 4 panel sites befor the addition of 1900/EVDO ... Now they are all 2 + 2 (still 4 panel), with the 2 "inner" replaced/being 1900 & the 2 outer being 800. ( with I'm sure a few "stealth" exceptions here & there)...Makes them easy to spot, since the only other 4 panel (Nextel) sites don't have the 2 inner 1900's .. ..

I have been seeing alot of T-Mobile activity in my area as well, towers going up & as you said, panels being removed & changed. 1 tech a while ago said it had something to do with the Cingular sale and giving up some frequencies, they needed to make the panel changes & remove 1 of them.
I haven't had a chance to talk to any another techs recently & 1 of the towers at our training grounds, they were working on it last week and I couldn't stop & chat with them.
I talked with a Sprint tech a couple of weeks ago & they are having more T-1 lines put in at there towers & plan on adding more switches, It seems alot of carriers are doing alot of changes & just hope it will improve coverage in the long run.

T-mobile has been adding a lot of new towers in my area of Long Island as well.

IN my area, within the last year or so, T-Mobile has actually added another panel to two panel per sector sites here...so I wonder why my experience is different than yours.

Sprint's older sites here in So. Cal all had 4 panels per sector. But yes Nextel always has 4 per sector everywhere I've seen.
