Well I am now using the Mogul. My initial reaction is it is 100% better than the 6700. Camera: I used it today all day taking pictures to see how the camera was. Now when it comes to cell phone cameras I am not usually impressed but this one takes some pretty good pictures. Touch Screen: The touch screen seems a lot better than the 6700. With the 6700 I felt like I would really have to apply pressure to the screen whereas with the Mogul it reads my taps easier. Size: The size is soooo much better. No antenna is nice, except I used the antenna on the 6700 to know how I was pulling the phone out of my pocket:biggrin: Navigation Pad: The navigational pad is a lot better also. They got rid of the "Stick" and replaced it with a "Navigational Pad" which makes it easier to use. The damn thing slides open the opposite way from the 6700 which has been annoying. This also means the keys are opposite when it is slid open. Just something I will have to get used to. It also seems like they tried to gear it to be used one handed with a scroll wheel on the left side along with an "OK" button. Memory The mogul uses Micro SD as opposed to the 6700 using Mini SD so my 2GB Mini SD card is useless for this phone. Not too big of a deal as I still had a 1GB Micro SD from my SLVR. Misc: One other little thing I like is you can display the "Time" at the top when any program is opened, with the 6700 you could not do this so while using the phone you would have to go to the "Today" screen to see the time (a nice change to avoid a small annoyance). It appears there is no "Terminal Service" client built in like the 6700 had. So those are some random thoughts on the Mogul. Feel free to ask questions and I will try to answer them.
I would agree with just about all of this, but I never had a 6700 so I cant provide input about the relation of the 2 devices.
I too have the Mogul, but I have never owned the PPC 6700. I did, however, own a Treo 700wx before the Mogul and the Mogul is definitely an improvement in terms of reception, picture quality, and more memory (which tends to not freeze up the programs if you have a lot of them open).
I can't believe Palm hasn't made any progress in this area. I had the original Treo700w and that thing froze up more than anything I have seen. I would have thought the second time around they would have said screw it and threw more memory at it than it needed! Oh well I guess they figure the masses will buy it with a great marketing campeign, so no need to put all that much money into it and reduce their profit margins
I agree with just about everything said. The navigation pad could have been a lot better. To me it feels cheap, and alittle more room between the soft keys would of been nice. And just an FYI. While the Mogul dose have more Storage Memory 164MB to 64 MB, The Treo has 10 more MB in total Program memory. Also the free program memory on a fresh out of the box Mogul is around 25 MB, the Treo has 45 MB. The Program memory is for installed Programs and running programs, that is a big difference. I for one never had any memory issues with my Treo. Even with the Treo fully loaded it istill preforms quicker and is more stable then my stock Mogul. But even with the memory short commings I like the Mogul more.
That is a good point, budney. I have to agree with you there. But like you said, I too like my Mogul better than the Treo 700wx.
Ok I have found a possible con to this phone. When I used my HS850 headset I could barely hear anything. I just wrote it off as a flaky issue. Then I was doing some research on the Mogul (unrelated to the bluetooth) and ran across several users reporting the same thing I experienced. So not sure if it is an issue or not as I haven't used my headset since, but I will keep an eye on this and report back.
I have heard many complaints about the Mogul's BT. Not sure what to make out of it, as my BT has been working great. I don't use it for call much, but the A2DP works very well.
Well I have used my headset twice since the first time and both times it worked fine, so not sure if there is an issue or not. I wonder when the REV A update will be out?
Ok so no suprise but the battery life sucks on the Mogul which is par for the course on Windows devices. It is not too bad if the Bluetooth is turned off, but man if I have the Bluetooth on all day my battery is gone! As much as I don't really care for blackberries I have to say they have always had excellent battery life. Not sure about the newer models but the 7700 and 7200 held a charge for several days versus my windows device not making a whole day!
Make sure under connection / beams, you have all incomming beams unchecked. I have heard that it helps with battery life quite a bit. I always keep mine unchecked, and my battery will last me the whole day.
For me, as long as i'm not messing with the thing all day long (which does sometimes happen), the phone will easilly make it through the entire day. Today, I was checking email the entire ride to campus, sat in a classroom for 90 minutes with wi-fi on and basically no cell service, watched my slingbox over wi-fi for 20 mintues during lunch, listened to music off my MSD card on the way to my next class, sat in another room for 90 minutes with wi-fi on and again almost no cell service, made a few calls on the way home, and still had 40% battery when I got back. I would say that this is pretty damn good.
Yeah...the incoming beam is only for IR. You will still be able to start a beam, as I actually use that a few times.
