    Mobile Handset Business Success LG¡¯s Biggest News

    LG Electronics picked the company¡¯s rise to the world¡¯s sixth-largest mobile handset supplier as the biggest news of the company for 2002.
    The electronic giant¡¯s intra-office gazette evaluated that the company has made great progress in its mobile handset business, becoming the sixth-biggest cellular phone maker by rolling out cutting-edge models and pursuing aggressive marketing campaigns.

    LG Electronics¡¯ LG-KH5000, a third-generation CDMA mobile handset model with a built-in digital camera and a color thin film transistor-liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) screen, won presidential prizes at the 2002 Good Design Awards of the Korea Institute of Design Promotion.

    The unprecedented digital TV sales boom due to the World Cup, Pusan Asian Games and launch of digital satellite broadcasting was chosen as the second biggest news in 2002 by LG Electronics.

    The adoption of a holding company system by splitting the company into LG Electronics Investment and LG Electronics on April 1, the rapid boost in telecom network equipment exports and development of the world¡¯s first 51-inch TV-use TFT-LCD ranked as the third to fifth biggest company news.

    Also included in the top 10 news were creation of a drum-type washing machine fad by marketing its TROMM model, commercialization of home network systems for the first time in the world on Nov. 25, mass development of new digital appliance models, including digital TVs, home theater systems, air conditioners and home network appliances, the strengthening of China business and launch of the company¡¯s intra-office ``Culture Innovation¡¯¡¯ campaign.
