to switch or not to switch? "will it survive"? I feel metropcs is a fly by night company. customers are running back to Tmobile.
Metropcs is not a fly by night company. They are becoming a well established company in the wireless community. They now claim service in over 300 cities. HOWEVER, I don't think Metro has even officially launched in the NYC market yet. It will take years upon years for the network to mature to the point where it can be compared to any other carrier in NYC. If you wander outside of the network coverage, you will be smacked with roaming charges for voice calls, have no access to data, but all texting will be free. Beware, coverage will be very limited right now, but give it some time.
MetroPCS launched in NY on February 4th, 2009. From Crain's New York: Metro PCS launches NY-area wireless service - Crain's New York Business Brand new network, great coverage in the five boroughs, Yonkers and the Jersey ridge with more expansion into Long Island every day. Correct to some extent about roaming, but if you live in the outlying boroughs or Yonkers and work in Manhattan, I expect you'll be pretty happy.
Metro just launched in Boston about a month ago. The coverage in downtown, and the immeadiate vicinity is ok. In building coverage needs to be addressed, big time (metro doesnt have coverage in a lot of buildings on the Northeastern Campus). They have been very agressive when it comes to marketing and I'm starting to see more and more people with metro phones. I think theyll be a definate competitor in the near future
