MetroPCS announced at CTIA that they're going to lauch LTE sometime later this year in Las Vegas supposedly being turned on sometime in the second half of 2010 with Samsung providing core network gear and their first phone. Just like with VZW they aren't offering any pricing or plans on the service. Hope its not a crappy phone like they usually offer.

I thought Ericsson was supplying the equipment on the network side for MetroPCS (and Samsung just the phones/data cards)

...I didn't even know Samsung was into LTE network equipment. I know they are heavy into WiMAX (especially Sprint). It could be possible that Ericcson supplies only the base stations and Samsung the core network (ie: switches). Altho this is the first time I head anything of Samsung doing network side LTE equipment anywhere. I wonder if DSLreports is correct in reporting that?

Well, if Metro starts deploying LTE anytime soon, I will see it. There is a metro site within view of my apartment, as well as a Nextel site. I wonder who puts 4G up first, Metro with LTE or Sprint with WiMax in my current city.

I wonder what this means for their Los Angeles area network? It would be interesting if they get LTE up and running in this market before Verizon...

That's what I first thought when I saw the news. But both dslreports and Engadget are reporting that Samsung is providing the core network gear. I didn't know they made core gear anyways. As you said in that report Ericcson, which makes more sense, is doing the infrastructure and Samsung is supplying the end user devices. I'm just curious as to what they're pricing will be and if they will do pure-byte billing with huge overages, or unlimited data at a low rate as Clear is doing now, or the "unlimited" as with the cell companies.
