Metro PCS leases tower in coastal NJ. According to The Ocean Star newspaper, Metro PCS signed a lease for the water tower in Lavallette, NJ. From the story "At the Dec. 22 council meeting, the members of council voted 5-1 to grant the leases to Metro PCS Wireless and Omnipoint Communications, at the starting annual rental price of $33,600 and $33,000, respectively." (The full article is subscription only) The article does not say when they will install the antennas. The Metro PCS coverage map shows some orange 'future expansion areas', but this tower is well away from those areas. MetroPCS | National Coverage Google Map of Metro PCS leased tower. This means that Metro PCS must be further building their AWS licenses (1.7/2.1 GHz). They bought two AWS licenses that cover that area; The C block of BEA 10 which inlcudes parts of NY, PA & NJ. They leased some of this in upstate NY to Pocket, a TX based unlimited type carrier. The D block of REA 1 which covers the entire northeast from Maine to PA. It will be interesting to see what happens when Metro PCS starts selling service in these new areas.
Man that Lavallette Water Tower has alot going on, Theres already Verizon antennas up there, plus a 50,000 watt radio station (91.1 WWNJ - The Classical Network) and now Metro and T-Mobile want their space up there
Metro looks to be building out on Long Island as well. My local T-Mobile monopole had a new carrier added, and it has to be Metro.
Does anybody think that MetroPCS will eventually expand into some more rural areas down the road? I know that they're called METRO, but still. Here in Michigan, MetroPCS has been expanding like madness into new areas, so I'm wondering if they'll move even further than that. In my very rural part of the state, Metro has AWS spectrum, like they're deploying nearby, so I wonder if they'll use it here?
I know Metro's planning further expansions in Michigan but rural is unlikely. It'd cost a lot to cover a small number of people. They've got plenty more cities, etc to cover first.
they appear from their coverage maps to have a lot of buildout planned near my area in Reading, PA.......i wonder how they're doing in Philly
