A question for all sales agents or other insiders:

I'm currently with cingular. I have an 8260 with the old 2000 minute national plan (when they still offered 3500 n&w minutes, $150/month). My contract is expired. I'd like a new phone, but nothing out there right now has caught my attention. How do I maximize the deal I get on a new phone when the time comes? Is there a formula based on my monthly expenditure and length of time with Cingular that gives a discount? Also, I assume the length of contract I'm willing to sign has a lot to do with this. How much can the agent "adjust" this discount? Do I get a better deal if I've been on contract longer or if I've been month-to-month (it seems like they'd do more to get people that have been month-to-month re-signed)? Does the fact that I also have a 5160 with a 500 minute nation prefered plan (under contract) help any?

I'd also be interested in hearing how other carriers figure these things out.

    Thanks.

Well, I can tell you that with Verizon, as long as you have gone two years with a rate plan of at least $35.00 a month, we will give you $100 off the promotional price of a new phone with a new two year agreement. Not a bad deal considering your getting a better deal than new customers. Im not sure how cingular works.

    How upgrading works for Cingular:

Nothing special for term of contract, though you may find them trying to please you more at a corporate store.

Basically, depending on the term of contract you sign, you get a discount on a new phone.

Nothing complex, it's reduced to what you'd pay if you were a new subscriber (or somewhere near what you'd pay) Only thing is, if you're a really long-term customer, have always paid bill on time, etc, they may be willing to do a bit more for you.

    That's it, nice and simple.

Do you need to have just gotten off a two year agreement for this, or can you just do it having had a phone for two years?? Obviously, you need a new two year agreement, but what about the old one?

It is only after you have completely finished your two year agreement and resign for another two year agreement
