My old tri-mode phone let me chose between A,B and analog only. My new tri-mode phone (LG vx5400) only has Automatic or Home options. Is there a Verizon code to force the phone into analog? Thanks
Most likely your phone does not have analog abilities, that's why you can't choose it, most newer handsets only use digital because of the analog shut down about to happen
I know the LG 5400 is listed as having AMPS 850, going by the specs that I have seen. Try going into the program menu, and see if you have AMPS listed as an option: 1) Hit ## 77647265400 (send) , 2) once you hit the send button, a service code menu will pop up (enter 6 zero's for the code) 3) Hit "Network Select" 4) Hit "Mode Preference" (this is where you should see AMPS available to select as your mode preference) If not, than it is most likely not available on your phone, as Fire14 has said. Welcome to WA a-log
Some of the AMPS networks that are still operating, offer excellent coverage in the parts of the country that haven't been turned off yet. Some phones feature AMPS for analog roaming where digital service is not available.
AMPS: Advanced Mobile Phone Service. Not only will the use of AMPS drain the battery more quickly, it also emits more radiation than the use of a digital device.
I dont know of anywhere in blount county where there is analog service and no digital. They turned off the 850mhsz tdma channel though. I thought verizon uses analog signal momentarly upon connection to the network, you notice how when you turned on a verizon phone that the "D" appears a few seconds after the bars show up on the signal meter? I have had times when the digital signal was poor and the phone switched to analog. I heard white noise when on such a call and the anolog signal was fading, as opposed to distortion when using digital signal. I just wonder if the analog signal is what gives verizon its advantage in signal strenth as opposed to gsm. I have noticed that when all other factors are equal, the verizon signal is heartier, more dependable, and goes farther than a gsm signal.
I have done my best to try out most of the carriers thru using their prepaid phones to know what towers they have antennaes on, and to compare the signal quality and handset functionality. And i like to compare their customer service departments. At&t doesnt offer an email to customer service for prepaid customers that i could find, they do have a live customer service chat, though. Virgin and tmobile have 24 hour customer service wich is cool because im up alot at night. Each carrier has its own unique cool stuff that other carriers cant do.
I don't think Verizon uses AMPS in many areas, if at all anymore. The last phone that I was able to use it on was the Motorola V325i for Verizon. But even back then, the Digital signal was starting to become the stronger of the two. Both of the phones that I am currently using with Verizon, are all digital, and I rarely find myself without any signal at all. I will say, where I am located, Verizon and AT&T's coverage is pretty much equal.
I doubt they will discontinue the anolog signal at the same time nationwide. Ellen was just saying that the benefit would be having coverage where there was no digital coverage. I am in alabama and we can still sitch to analog. what state are y'all in?
As of midnight on February 18, 2008, cellular telephone companies will not be required to provide analog service. While most wireless telephone users will not be affected by this transition (often called the “analog cellular sunset”), some users may be affected. In addition, the transition could affect some alarm systems and some users of OnStar in-vehicle communications service. Link: Analog-to-Digital Transition for Wireless Telephone Service
Maybe verizon stopped using amps on their phones that came out with the edge meter by the signal meter. Is that what your signal meter looks like? I assume all the future models will have the edge meter on them. About verizon and at&t being equal, i was referring to a scenario like this, If i knew a verizon and at&t had antennaes on the same tower at equal height and same frequency, and i travelled away from the tower, the at&t phone lost service first.
up at my grandparents house there is analog in some places...........its average signal and you absolutely cannot move when making a call or it will crackle and pop
If your still out there: Press menu then immediatly press 0 (zero) 7 times. Look for Force Mode. See if analog is there. Select analog if you want. If its there you can set the phone to analog only using another menu. PRESS CLEAR or END to get out of this MODE. Let us know. Good Luck. Specifications (from Verizon site) Frequency: 1.9 GHz CDMA PCS, 800 MHz CDMA/AMPS (Tri–Mode) Data Transmission: 1xRTT Voice & Data Capable
As far as I know, this method no longer works on the "newer" LG handsets. The method that I posted above is how to get to the "program menu" with the LG 5400 (unless they didn't change it on their tri-mode handsets).... Maybe the OP could post back and let us know for sure.
Thank you, thank you! Ellen, The first code you posted worked perfectly! I thought that was the same code I found a day or so ago when searching goggle endlessly but apparently not. On a side note I was freaking out because I sent this phone mistakenly through the wash after only having it a week. I though all was lost but after removing the battery and drying on a vent for 24hrs it works perfectly!? Thanks everyone for the response, a-log has analog!.....................at least for now
You May not have it next week, depending where you are. Also: If you have the water problem again, after removing the battery you can try a vacuum cleaner hose to remove the water right away.
Well I can still make analog calls and it’s after the 18th. The reason I needed to manually switch to analog is because I live half the time in rural mountains. My phone would say 1X and three bars but nobody in the area can make a call digitally. With the automatic tri mode phone this fake digital signal overrides the phone from automatically switching to the only usable signal, analog.
thats weird.....you should call Verizon and tell them about that..........cuz if its happening to everyone in your area then there is something wrong with the tower......on Verizon with 3 1x bars you should be able to make a clear call
