The Made By Google 2019 Event will start at 10am EST. You can watch it live on YouTube: I'm starting to see live pricing now on a few sites, like B&H Photo. Don't know how accurate it is: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1507476-REG/google_ga01188_us_pixel_4_64gb_smartphone.html
Google may drive me to an iPhone 11 Pro! The Pixel 4 has more power, more cameras, more sensors, larger screen at a higher refresh rate, and, a smaller freakin' battery! WTF Google? They took a phone with poor battery life and will make it worse. Now that the iPhone seems to have matched the Pixel camera and reportly has good battery life, it's possible.
I'm thinking I'm going to get a Pixel 4. I don't use my Pixel 3 enough during the day to have a battery issue, plus I'm normally charging it a few times a day when I'm in my car using Android Auto
I feel bad for everyone who has pre-ordered last year. I don't think there were quite the same deep slashes so soon after release with the first and second gen devices.
What's your strategy for no sales? Wait for Christmas or take the plunge? Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
I wasn't real happy with my Pixel 3 trade in being only $225. If it was $300 I would have bought a Pixel 4. Now I'll just wait until Black Friday to see if the Pixel 4 goes on sale.
I'm not even going to bother with a trade-in, my Pixel XL is a joke at $76 Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
I bought an iPhone 11 Pro and am back on my Pixel 3a. The new iPhone Pro has a great camera system--I'd say it's better than my Pixel 3a much of the time, but not all the time. I imagine it's pretty close when put against a Pixel 4. Cameras and size aside, I struggle with iOS. So much that I went back to Android for the OS. Seemingly simple things (to me) are not possible on iOS, or I cannot figure out how to do them reasonably quickly. I suppose I'll try living with the Pixel 4 XL to see if I can stand using the larger phone, but I'll wait for a sale.
Just curios, what are your issues with iOS? For me the first and foremost is the typing, I'm practically ready to smash the phone to smithereens every time I have to type something (thankfully I don't have to handle iPhone very often).
Here are some things I have trouble with in iOS. Some may seem as if I'm being Petty Roosevelt (yes, that's a Flossy Carter reference ) Can't position apps on the home screen No app drawer, have to organize everything on home screens and put stuff in folders. Can't have a number row or tap & hold symbols on keyboard. Cumbersome to use another keyboard and it isn't always used (e.g. for passwords) when present Have to use Safari, can't set a different system default app. Regardless of which browsers are installed, Safari is launched when clicking links. Can't easily and copy files (e.g. mp3 files, documents, app installers, jpg files) The screen lights up for every notification and it's hard to stop that behavior. Unless I missed something, I have to go in to each application's settings and turn off the lock screen notification to keep the screen off. I don't want the screen turning on for each notification. Speaking of notifications, I prefer their reminders always in sight (e.g. icons in the notification tray) rather than the need to go look for them in the pulldown. Can't turn off WiFi & Bluetooth, iOS manages them by turning them back on "tomorrow" -- I should be deciding when they are turned on Bonus beef - when I reset the phone to give to my wife I went in to settings and chose to erase everything. After that I answered yes to two confirmation pop ups. I then had to enter my Apple ID password! Overkill, no? I can't tell if Apple's approach to user experience is "We got this, you don't have to think about it" or "You're too stupid to figure this out, we go it and you'll do it this way." That's all for now--I don't want to be too much of a complainer.
Wow, you have definitely used the phone much more than I had ever done I didn't even know of some of the things on your list. But yes, those are all very valid.
From the online rumor mill. I've read that the Pixel 4 will be $200 off on Black Friday at Google and Best Buy. I also read that Target stores will give $300 in Target gift cards instead on $200 off.
Will these all require a new line of service? I read Target will but don't know about Best Buy. Do a lot of people switch their service to get a discount on a phone? Google should just lower the price, it's not worth what they are charging now.
I think Google deal (if it does materialize) may be the only one not contingent on the service. I'm pretty certain all the other ones will be. And you're absolutely right, while Pixel 4/XL may have many virtues, value is definitely not one of them :/
Good questions, but I don't know. I also saw something about Verizon offering a discount on the Pixel 4, but I didn't read it because I don't use Verizon. I'm hoping the $200 off is true. Then I'll buy a Pixel 4
Verizon offers some of the deepest discounts (by one get one free) but their Pixels are crippled (no eSIM) and the offers requires signing up for unlimited plan. I too am hoping for a Google Store deal, that's the only place to buy a Pixel IMHO.
