I saw the Village and was dissapointed. What a wacky concept. Not what you'd expect. Anyone else see it?
That movie flat out sucked. I had the "twist" figured out before we even got to the movie. I sent my idea to my wife as a text with a future delivery time and I was dead on. LAME.
To be honest, I didn't have it figured out as fast as most. I guess I was looking into everything too much. I knew I was overlooking something. Having seen it, I bet everything becomes a thousand times more obvious if I were to watch it again...which I will not. I figured to yellow and red would mean something...but all I could come up with was ketchup and mustard. Yeah, I didn't catch on till the blind girl took a walk.
I'm the type that notices everything on the screen. I will notice the magnets and pictures on the fridge in the shot. So I usually notice who is where when and what they are doing, etc.
Okay...I'm going to sit on the opposite side of the fence...I liked the movie...(don't shoot me!!!)...I like how Shymalan takes the main twist of the story and overtakes it with a second storyline...I'm usually pretty good at guessing movies before the ending, but this one evaded me until further down the line...
I liked it too. Now, I was a little shikker when I saw it, so I didn't catch on until it was Painfully Obvious... but the plot aside, I found it very thought-provoking and the cinematography was just terrific.
I feel the same way as Delta. I was analyzing everything a bit too much. I started a fight with the people behind me though. It was like having my own personal commentary throughout the movie. I let it go thru the whole movie until like the last 30 minutes. Then I turned around and said "If you continue to talk and ruin the ending of the movie for me, I'll find you out in the parking lot and beat the $5.50 I paid for this movie out of you." Everyone around us clapped for me and those obnoxious fools moved to different seats for the rest of the movie. In the end, i thought the movie was good overall, but did not think it was anywhere near as good as his other movies.
Our nighttime price would've been $10 easy...don't think Angelenos proper are the only ones to get hit!! The suburbs of good ole LA are also suffering right along with you!!
I have to pay $4.00 for the first show of the day, then it's $5.00 after that until six and then it's $6.75 or $7.00 depending on the night. The movie had it's good parts, I found it interesting.
Liked it a lot. The beginning was too slow; at one point I feared I had walked into another "Cold Mountain" depressing deathtrap, but later I found myself having a great time. I loved the camera work as well; amazing shots througout the film. I guess it helped that I wasn't expecting anything in particular with respect to plot twists. I made an effort not to read anything about the movie - reviews, posts, etc. - and just rely on the trailers I'd seen to grab my attention. I'm already a skeptic 99% of the time, so when I watch movies and TV I make a real effort to just relax and just enjoy the story. I was pleasantly surprised by both twists, even though I had heard rumors of the first. Besides, I've been too busy trying to get my hands on a V710 lately to think about how I might "figure out this movie" before seeing it. It all worked out; I got the V710 on Friday and saw the movie on Sunday. Dang - a "matinee" show on Sunday is $8 here!
Well, since L.A. is two hundred suburbs in search of a city, I'm not quite sure what a "suburb" of LA is -- Pomona? Palmdale? San Juan Crappystaino? Here in the Valley (like, oh, my GOD) it's $10... at Century City it's $10... and in Westwood (damn! them!) it's $11 if it's a really recent release. OTOH if you wait you can go see it at 3rd and Fairfax for like $5. It's sad to me that it costs less to go clubbing and get drunk than to have burgers and go to a movie... Burgers, fries and shakes for two at a sit-down hamburger place: $23 Movie for two: $10 Popcorn and soda for two: $16 Parking: $3 TOTAL FOR FRIDAY EVENING: $52 Japanese food for two: $13 Entrance to club: $0 Four delicious soju ****tails and a bottle of water: $31 Parking: $0 TOTAL FOR SATURDAY EVENING: $44
We're talking the Brea/Diamond Bar/Chino Hills area...You can see older movies for about $5, but the new movies are anywhere from $9 to $13 (oh wait...at Downtown Disney we're talking $15+ easy!!!) for a ticket... Then there's dinner...about $28 - $45 depending on where (not including beverages and tip!)... Yeah...even out of LA proper we still get nailed!!
Japanese food for two for $13? Where? Not including sushi, right? I don't think I've ever spent less than $15 a person. Also, this next sentence is a test -- whether the cuss filter is turned up so high on these boards that we can't even write the word "****tail" or whether you starred it out yourself... (edit) seems a bit much when we can't write a commonly used noun.
OT Re: M. Night Shyamylan needs a swift kick in the jimmies We had ****tails while we watched a ****fight from the ****pit of the plane and threw balls to our ****er spaniel. Sorry, just curious...kinda surprised it allowed the object of the verb "threw" in there.
the theatre has a student price which i lied for and received. im not a student right now. normally its like $7.50 or something like that. but i have a bunch of free passes anyway. unfortunately i can only use them for movies that are not new releases.
