LG5350 or Sanyo 4900?

By the way, Amazon has the new prices for Sprint Phones through the end of this quarter listed on their electronics/cellular pages. At any rate, I'm trying to decide between the two above listed phones for new service to be activated with SPCS shortly. One thing which has me attracted to the 4900 is the fact it includes a travel charger, which has allowed me to use my current 3360 during low battery sessions without powering off and ending my conversation. Will the 4900 offer me this same benefit if in the event I'm low on energy? Is the travel charger reliable enough to juice the phone during low battery occurances so calls and conversations can be sustained? Also, many people have been remarking that the 4900 has a better speakerphone than the 5350, is this true? On the other hand, there are those who say Vision browsing is much better on the 5350, along with the additional pixel capacity. Hope to hear your opinions/suggestions soon!

I'm forced to diagree. LG is notoriously unreliable for reception and reliability of the phone. The Sanyo 4900 is a proven strong phone, and many people (including me) have found it to have tghe best reception at least of Sprint's 3G lineup. If you want a flip and don't want to spend $400 for the Sanypo 5300, get the LG. Otherwise I'd go with the bar-style 4900.

I started out with the Sanyo 4900; couldnt wait to get it as soon as it was available; but then I heard how great this LG 5350 was going to be; so what did I do......I got the 5350.

For me the change was right out of a Steven King novel......the phone does not come with a travel charger; and the reception (for me anyway) was piss poor!

The day I purchased my phone, right before walking out of the store, I realized that I hadnt bought the car charger. I asked for one, had my money in my hand, and was told......they are not out yet! No wonder they didnt ask me if I needed one........go figure!
Needless to say, I stood there with this stupid look on my face....not out yet?!

Good thing I was on my way home.

OK, I place the phone in its charger when I arrive home and let it get all juiced up; I go out later, and every other call I made seemed to be sucking the life right out of the battery.
Keep in mind that by this point I am back in my car with NO car charger.

By the time I arrived where I was going, I had almost no bars left.

Morning couldnt come fast enough; As soon as the Sprint store opened the next day, I was the first customer walking in the door.

I got the Sanyo 4900 back.

OOps.....got caught up in my nightmare. [IMG]

To answer your question; yes, the Sanyo 4900's travel charger is more than reliable; if you talk on your phone long enough to drain the battery, you have enough time to plug in the charger and carry on your conversation.

The speakerphone on the 4900 is better than the 5350.

And yes, Vision is better on the 5350 than the 4900; pixel quality and speed. I didnt have the 5350 long enough to play with it; but I did play with it in the store. I was impressed with how fast pages load; but for me, battery life and reception were more important.

    Hope that helps you [IMG]

I have to touch this subject too with comments.........

I bought BOTH the LG 5350 and the Sanyo 4900 from BBuy and drove from Bay Shore LI where I got them back to NYC............All along the Southern State I checked the signals of both......(not a great idea on that winding parkway but hey I gotta know!).........

Anways nothing new to report for signal strength that hasnt been stated here over and over[IMG]

Th 4900 had a STEADY 4 bars.........the 5350 had a steady ONE or TWO bars the entire trip........(back went the 5350 the nect day)

Anyways I do like the 5350's screen as some have said here.......but it matters what you prefer the most........I dont like flips and I like the solid built of the 4900.......Slower and not as sharp for the Vision but I want reception and quality........

However today I made calls to it with 4 bars in NYC and it went right to the voicemail (GRRRRRRRRR)
I will blame this on Sprint and not the 4900.......maybe the towers were overloaded .......
Prior to these calls all the bars "mysteriously" left the 4900 and there were none (in an area where theres always 4 bars) and then they returned (while driving locally) and then the calls couldnt be made when the 4 bars came back to the phone and only to voicemail........The battery was nearly gone which I dont think would affect a signal.........
    Or would it?

Anyways I think overall I couldnt wait to make that drive back to Bbuy to get rid of that 5350 which, obvoiusly, is not for me[IMG]

When the bars drop suddenly like that, it's a good sign that the particular tower is jammed and therefore the overall signal it's putting out is hampered (temporarily of course). This theory is strengthened by the fact that you reported calls going right to VM.

I hope that by now you are already enjoying your Sanyo 4900. Sanyo is a much better product than any of the other phones made that Sprint Offers. the 4900 will also work with the PTT or the direct connect that sprint will be releasing in a couple of months. If you have any questions you can email me at wirelesstoday@rgv.rr.com

I heard that the 4900 won't work with PTT, but only that it's successor (4950?) would work. Can anyone confirm/deny this? Also, I hear PTT is basically ready, but they're holding back on the launch until they figure out pricing, marketing, etc. until next year.

Yes PTT is ready. They just did not want to launch it with all of the confusion surrounding 3G. I have heard two stories about which phone will work. I was told that the 4900 would work and that it has already been in BETA testing. I have also been told about the 4950 that you mention. The button is already there on the 4900. Right now it is used for Voice Memo. It is just a matter of going into the sprint store and them downloading the flash needed by Winphoria's PTT option. I hope this helps. I do not know it all, I just think I do...

Is there a Sanyo 4950 out or is this just speculation of what the new model number will be?
