I'm interested in tri mode phone.
Do no need camera, front LCD is not a must, flip phone prefered. Just a good solid phone.
I like the LG VX3200 but see very little real users info about it. Any help?

I don't think this phone is too popular among us "phone geeks".

Go here to see some decent reviews for it.

I am in the same boat as you elberta5. I have just moved to Oregon where my AT&T GSM service is terrible (reception/dropped call issues). I've been told Verizon is the strongest carrier in area, but can't decide which Verizon phone is best. A strong signal in both urban and rural areas is my main concern. Does tri-mode give you the best reception or will a digital-only phone work just as well? I am going to go with the VX3200 if tri-mode gets better reception. Otherwise I am going with the VX6000 for all the fancy features.

    Any feedback is appreciated!

I've sold quite a few of those to people looking for the same thing...you probably will not find a review of that phone because like was previously posted these folks are not phone geeks like the rest of us.

That phone has gotten great reviews from the customers who have received it.

the vx3200 seems to be a entry level phone without the fancy features. the predicesor the vx3100 is just as solid as the vx6000 in terms of RF.

I own and use the 3200, after having having used the Audiovox 8300, Nokia 3589i, and the LG vx4500. It is a good entry level phone without any fancy features (specifically Get-It-Now, Internet access, and no caller id on the outside of the phone). I've found the audio quality to be quite good on the phone, and that is the reason I got it after using the Nokia 3589i. It doesn't get quite as good of reception as the 3589i (fyi the 3589i's reception is reportedly the very best you can get from any current verizon phone), but it's reception is still way above average, and it gets much better reception that the Audiovox or the 4500 (I know because my house is behind a hill, and gets a pretty crappy signal). The only really big problem I have with it is that I find the vibrator to be kind of weak. It vibrates fast enough, but not "hard" enough - if it's in my pocket pressed up against my leg, sometimes I cannot feel the vibrator. Another thing I like about it is the menu system. Like most modern LG phones, the menu system is pretty straight forward and easy to use, and most menus display a number to push to select the menu, so you don't have to always be scrolling up and down.

    Pro's:
    Good reception
    Good sound quality
    Nice size
    Good menus

    Con's:
    Vibrator is weak

If you have any more questions about this phone in particular, go ahead and post them here I will try and answer them.

    Hi WillGayther,

Your review of VX3200 is just great. I don’t care much about the vibrator (lets say I'm not getting turn on by it).
Right now I have ATT - TDMA Motorola V60i. My contract with ATT will be over next month.
Until the ATT made this stupid mistake to go GSM, their service was great. Now both TDMA and GSM suck.
You as a user of previous cell phones with external LCD, how much is a problem (if at all) not to have external LCD mainly for ID.

Man, as soon as I wrote that the vibrator didn't vibrate hard enough, I knew someone would, um, misinterpret it...

I haven't had a problem with not having an external caller id. Having had both, the external lcd is really pretty low on my priority list (reception, sound quality, sound volume, ringer volume, easy menus, plus many more are all first). I've heard people who haven't actually tried it complain that the freature is lacking, but it just hasn't been a problem for me. I mean, I already have to take my phone out of it's holster to see who's calling (I wish I could magically get rid of that because that takes the most time and effort), but you would have to do that to see the external lcd anyways. If I've already got the phone in my hand, I can open and close it with one hand - not a big deal.

Ok, here's my summary again about the differences because you don't have an external id:
    1. Have to flip it open and close to check - doesn't bother me.
    2. Have to hit the answer button to answer a call, rather than just opening the phone - doesn't bother me. (You could set it to answer on opening the phone, but for obvious reasons I don't).
    3. When I'm talking to someone in person, and my phone rings, I have to open the phone up to see who's calling. The person I'm talking to often seems to think I'm answering it, when in reality I'm just checking to see who's calling and have no intention of answering it (because I'm talking to them). Sometimes they look a little annoyed at first, then get over it because I close the phone and don't answer it. This is only thing that bothers me about not having an external id at all.

If I had it to do over again, I still wouldn't have cared whether my phone had an external LCD. (There are a great number of more important features to think about). If I could have paid more to get an external id, I probably would have, but only because of #3. It really isn't that big of a deal.

On another note, I do sorta wish it had games and internet access - I've been told it's nice to be able to check movie times and directions when I'm not by a computer. However, these obviously aren't really big issues for me because this is the phone I stuck with, and believe me - I don't have a problem returning phones if I don't like it.

On reason I didn't try another phone was that I really like having the speaker phone, which the 3200 comes with. It's not ultra loud or anything, but it works for me. I've used it 3 or 4 times in the last 2 months. Once someone was calling and they want to talk to both me and someone I'm with. Another time I was going around with my dad looking at houses, I called the number on the sign to hear about the house - with the speakerphone we could both listen to the description. Another time I was with my friend Mike, and my friend Victoria called (they knew each other). I wanted to talk to Victoria, but I know how annoying it is when you're sitting next to someone who's ignoring you and talking on the cell phone. So I put her on speakerphone. Even though Mike didn't have that much to add to the conversation, I think it was a lot less annoying for him to listen to because he wasn't hearing only my side of the conversation. Obviously this wouldn't work in all situations, but it did for me then. I think giving up internet and games for the speakerphone was worth it.

    Hi WillGayther,

Sorry about the vibrator comment - it was a joke.

Well you definitely did a great service to all potential users of this phone.
    To majority of cell phone users the most important features in a phone are the features that you described;
Reception, sound quality, sound volume, ringer volume, easy menus, size, battery life, etc - a solid sturdy device.
The rest of the features fall into "Nice to have" and not "Must to have"

I would have to agree with WillGayther as far as "concerns" or however you would like to define minor annoyances. The biggest thing that I have a gripe with are the lame wallpapers and non-standard ring tones. I would love to be able to have a normal ring tone and a wallpaper that doesn't suck. I have tried all I can to get one there, however I have had no luck, if anyone does find a way to upload things to the phone, please put a post up. :)

While the users manual indicates that the LED on the phone will indicate the battery charging state (red = charging and green = charged) while the charger is plugged in.
My phone does not do this - the LED will light up RED for a few seconds and then go out when the charger is plugged in. The LED will never light up GREEN to indicate charging is complete.
One has to open up the phone and look at the LCD screen for the "Charging Complete" message
Note - the charger is the 120VAC model that plugs into the side small "barrel" connector on the phone.
    Any one else seen this?

What I like on this phone -
The speaker phone works very well
    Good sound quality
    Easy to navigate menu setup

I, too, am looking for good quality sound and reception; don't need a phone with a camera or other fancy features, such as games (have my Palm Pilot for that), but do like the LCD screen on the outside. I may want to add ringtones depending on how bad the ones are that come with it, but this is not a priority for me. I do believe tri-mode is important so that I can get reception in those out of the way places. Has the 3200 been out long enough to establish a reputation (good or bad)? Is it good enough to warrant foregoing the LCD outside screen, do I skip the tri-mode and go for the all digital 4500 (don't need a speakerphone as long as I have the headset), or do I track down the old 4400 and get both tri-mode and LCD outside screen on an albeit older model? Thank you!

All digital is sufficent for most of CT. My parents live in the southern part around Fairfield - Danbury area and my 6k has excellent RF everywhere i go when i visit them.

My mom herself, uses the 3100 (the predicesor to the 3200) and she has no complaints bout the service at her house.

And how about ringtones. I haven't been a phone geek and understand this phone doesn't have many geek type features, however I would like to put my own ringtones on it. Is it possible to upload myself without paying verizon?

What format does it support for ringtones?

The reason I ask is I just got the vx3200 for the wife, I have the choice of adding either another vx3200, the vx4500 or the vx6000. Strength of signal is very important and i would like to add my own ringtones.

I have a new VX3200 and a VX6000. The 6000 is much more fun to play with but when it comes to RF performance, the VX3200 wins hands down. The 2 phones arent even in the same ball park! Our 3200 always makes and receives crystal clear calls in low signal areas and the 6000 either cant make a call, cant receive a call or has choppy audio in the same location. My office is in a very bad Verizon signal area and the 3200 performs well where the 6000 doesnt even ring (all calls go directly to voicemail) unless I keep the phone elevated with the antenna perfectly vertical. I can lay the 3200 around the office anywhere and it rings every time.

    Hope that helps.. :)

That does help a lot actually. I assumed the 6000 would have stronger signal. Now I am down to the vx3200 and the vx4500.

In that case go 3200. the 4500 isn't as good at "holding" signal.

    LG vx 3200...less frills...MORE PHONE!

I don't have both the 6000 and the 3200 (I only have the 3200) so I can't speak from personal experience, but I haven't heard anyone else say that the 3200 gets better reception than the 6000. Now, the 6000 does not have better reception, but I got the impression that the reception between the two was pretty close. Just fyi.

From personal experience, I have to agree with Pathylogical - I personally returned my 4500 to get a 3200, and the 3200 definitely gets better reception in low signal areas (like inside my house).

To be fair, I should mention that I found that the 4500 had a little better voice quality when talking on it. I do NOT have problems understanding what people are saying or anything on the 3200, but people sounded a little...smoother on the 4500 when I had it. (On the other hand, I stuck with the 3200, so that should tell you something).

I liked the vx3200 but i traded them in for the samsung a670...not because of the camera but because the features far outwayed that of the 3200. I am extremely happy with everything about the a670. The only thing I have a problem with is the battery life (of course I cant put the thing down long enough too keep the battery charged). Reception is really goodwith the a670, maybe not quite as good as the 3200 but real close. Anyway that is my review. I would go with somthing more full featured. :D

Hey, I don’t know if Data Pilot has what you’re looking for, but I’ve had pretty good luck with Mobile Phone Tools. You can connect to you laptop with your mobile phone. You can check it out here: http://www.bvrp.com/link_mobile_phonetools.htm.
    Hope that helps.

I hope somebody out there can help me with my LG 3200 phone. I am new to all this and this might be a dumb question, but here goes. I've had this phone for a couple of months and have used it to make calls without a problem but I seldom receive incoming calls on it so I didn't notice this problem until now. When the phone is closed, the ringer does not make any sound, regardless of the volume I have it set on and it goes immediately to voicemail. This would explain why the few incoming calls I get are always missed calls even if I'm right there waiting for it to ring. If the phone is open, the ringer works fine, but as soon as I start to close it and the hinge gets to a certain point the ringer stops. I can't seem to find any setting that I might have inadvertently put on the ringer. Do you think this is a defect with my particular phone? I confess I did put an unauthorized faceplate on it so I'm reluctant to take it to the Verizon Store but it is exactly the same as the original faceplate just a different color. Anyway, could that have any effect on the way that phone rings?
