Beware anyone with a LG phone! Maybe a recall will be coming... Man killed after phone explosion - CNN.com
As if another reason is needed On the bright side, at least LG has the decency to put their users out of their misery
For those of you who are relatively new to the forums I owned an LG phone for exactly 26 hours before I got fed up with the dropped calls and poor RF. I took the phone back to the store and exchanged it for a Motorola. -Jay
None of my LG's (9) blew up and most had great RF. Didn't another manufacture have a similar issue a few years ago? By the way my LG's were all CDMA, not GSM.
That's precisely why they didn't suck. LG makes good CDMA phones. On GSM, they are horrible. Is as if they were made by two different companies and just put the same name on them.
This has exactly been my experience. I never imagined how completely different their CDMA phones were compared to the GSM ones. I had the L1400 some years ago and couldn't wait to get rid of the horrible thing. I'll never understand why there is such a dramatic quality difference in their phones between the CDMA and GSM phones.
I think CDMA networksare more prevelant in Korea (due to the US influence) than GSM, so maybe that's why LG is better in CDMA. In any case, LG has very little RF experience in general (maybe 5-10 years?) compared to say Motorola who has around 50 years or so experience. Id never buy a LG phone. Maybe a hairdryer or a vacum, but never a phone.
My IMTS phones were Motorola. Motorola's rf experience is far more than 50 years. They have also had some failures here in the US. Like the 720. Are you in Europe?
Cell phone may have killed SKorean man - Yahoo! News More information in above article: "We presume that the cell phone battery exploded," the police official said on condition of anonymity because the investigation was still under way. Just a thought: it could be a crime.
Yes, at the moment. And you're right, Motorola has been in RF over 50 years, since the 1930's so it's more like 80 years.
Not me. I would never buy anything LG. I am bitter because their A/C units suck. Just ask anyone who has been to Iraq. It is not fun sitting in a hot tent or trailer, all because your A/C went out again.
I'm not sure how many people know that LG used to be known as fourth-rate electronics firm Goldstar. In fact the name of the company is really Lucky-Goldstar, hence LG. Goldstar stuff was . It's no wonder they changed the name.
I am well aware of that. GoldStar was the company selling $99 VCR's in the 80's when everything else was at least $150. Its almost funny now how they are trying to push themselves as a high-end manufacturer. Anyone see their refrigerator commercials on TV? They are trying to sell them like they are $100,000 sports cars. -Jay

Besides the Motorola E815 that I had with Verizon, I haven't found any manufacture besides LG that I like better as far as the CDMA network is concerned. Even the newer GSM LG's have been improving more and more lately.
Report: Exploding cell phone battery may not be behind death of SKorean quarry worker The South Korean man whose death was initially blamed on an exploding cell phone battery appears to have died from another cause, according to a news report Thursday. The quarry worker, whose name has not been released, was found dead Wednesday with a melted phone battery in his shirt pocket, according to police. He also had a broken spine and ribs as well as heart and lung injuries. The National Institute of Scientific Investigation said the injuries were too substantial to have been caused by a battery explosion, according to the Yonhap news agency. "It is difficult to conclude that the damage of internal organs was caused by the cell phone battery explosion," Yonhap quoted an unnamed medical examiner as saying. The official was not reachable for comment, but the institute told The Associated Press that it only had preliminary results from the autopsy and it will take about 15 days to reach a final conclusion. On Wednesday, police and a doctor who examined the body said an explosion of the battery was probably responsible for the death. LG Electronics Inc., which made the handset, said a battery explosion was almost impossible. Exploding Cell Phone Battery May Not Be Behind Death of SKorean
Was this a CDMA phone or an older GSM LG phone that you had Jay? I have had just about every LG that Verizon came out with, and with the exception of the LG 6100, they all had great reception and call quality. As a matter of fact, most of them I could still carry on a conversation even with 1 bar showing. On AT&T's GSM network, I do prefer Mororola's, but that's just my personal preference.
LG's are known to be good phones on the CDMA side, that's a given for a lot of reasons. But on the GSM side since LG is fairly new at this technology they are still sub-par with their Rf and call quality even Samsung is slightly better then LG on their phones (Which I give Samsung within the year & they will be where they need to be) Nokia & Motorola's have been the GSM top Rf and call quality phones, again Samsung is closing in and their Black Jack is a good example of how they are improving. LG just isn't there yet, even my CU400 is substandard compared to my Razr and my old V635 and I can absoulutely agree with Jay 26 hours is enough time to know if it's going to give you what you need or don't when it comes to Rf & call quality. I turned my Samung SYNC back in around the same period for the V3xx & with most people here that know phones & use them more then the average person, you can tell a lot faster then someone that is a regular user.
Motorola has also had their share of phone explosions according to these stories that I have uncovered. Tech 5) textually.org: A cell phone explodes in jacket pocket I could list more, but I'm sure everyone gets my point here.
And the majority of these and Nokia's battery explosions & fires have been caused by "Alter Market Batteries" also if you read my last news article posted to this thread they are at this time & by the injuries the man suffered (as a nurse you know as I do there is no way a cellphone burning or exploding is going to cause extensive internal injuries as well as breaking a persons spine) that they have ruled out the phone causing the man's death. Now as we know until the autopsy is conducted and the results released in the 15 day period, everything is speculation, but I do not see the phone being the cause of his death from the injuries he substained.
I don't believe the phone is to blame here either, but I did feel that it was important to point out that incidents like the LG one mentioned above are not just related to one wireless phone manufacture.
I think something was lost in the translation. The original artical in Korean read: :browani: ...can we please get back to bashing LG now?
