Hey everyone, I noticed the LG CU320 isn't on Cingular's website anymore. Did they discontinue it because it was a bad phone, or is there some other reason they don't have it online right now? I know when I had one it dropped sooooo many calls I had to take it back to the store. -Jay
According to our local Cingular store they were told not to reorder after their shelf stock was depleted.
Well, I was right then. It was such a bad phone they didn't even wait for another bluetooth 3G phone to be released before dropping it. After I tried it a few weeks ago I predicted it would be discontinued quickly. -Jay
I asked him specifically whether it was being discontinued because of problems and he said he didn't know (or he is not going to tell me.. ) Truthfully, I was very surprised that the first 3G phone introduced by Cingular was a LG, which is more reputable in the their CDMA line up over their GSM. I fully expected the first 3G to be a Moto or a Nokia.
Same here. I was tempted this week. I saw a Motorola A845 on Ebay, but they wanted $69.99 and it was locked to ATT, so I'd have to unlock it before I could use it. -Jay
As I understand it, they are no longer going to sell 3g phones in non 3g areas until sometime in the 3rd quarter of 2006. This is due to people complaining about the speed of video on EDGE/GPRS as compared to UTMS. So to get it now they want you to be in a 3g market that is online with 3g now.
I didn't know that they sold 3G phones in non-3G markets. I'm in the Washington/Baltimore market. We were in the initial rollout of 3G, and my house is well within the 3G coverage area mapped on the website. The phone also showed 3G service when it wasn't too busy dropping calls... -Jay
It's sad that the phone had so many problems. It had great potential and would've been an excellent phone if it didn't have the RF problems. Since it had so many problems though, I'm glad it's gone. The Sony Ericsson W600i that I got is working just fine for me.
I would have been able to tolerate the phone if it had been able to reasonably hold onto a call. The fact remained that unless I could physically see the tower it was virtually useless. -Jay
i had the moto razr v3 and recently switched to the cu320. i love the phone but i have noticed two nasty areas for dropping calls on 3G - Rt. 123 & WO&D Trail in Vienna, VA -- and I-495 & I-66 interchange in FFX County. personally, i love the phone, but now i'm a little worried that WHEN i break it (c'mon... it's a slider... 3 months and i'm sure i will have destroyed it) i wont be able to replace it with lockline. what do you all think?
Most people I see with Sliders don't seem to have problems with them as far as manufactured wise & them breaking, and I haven't heard of anyone complain about them breaking from normal use. I just don't like the sliding feature. As for Lock line, did they offer it for the phone? or have you called to see if it's available? if it is & your that concerned I would suggest getting the insurance now to be safe.
It was impossible to hold a call anywhere I tried to use it. The bulk of the time I was in Sterling, but I did drive out to Leesburg (Yeah, I know there's no 3G coverage past Ashburn) and even on the 2G GSM network in Leesburg it dropped a lot of calls. I was glad to be rid of it. -Jay
drop issues I’m honestly surprised with all the problems people are having, maybe it due to location? I live in San Francisco and never have any drop or clarity problems anywhere in the bay area. Maybe I’ll have a different tune when I travel up to seattle but then again, that goes back to me talking about location. I find it even more interesting how the market is suddenly moving towards more slide action phones (the new LG Chocolate)
Re: drop issues SBacklin lives in Seattle, and he had problems too. I am sure it is the phone now. I bought a 3G Motorola A845 on Ebay and have not dropped any calls yet, and I've been using it about 2 months. In the same places the LG would constantly drop calls, even on the sidewalk outside where all my other phones show full service. Again, I am thankful that I got rid of that darn thing. If you got one that doesn't drop calls, then consider yourself lucky. From talking to others dropping calls was a big issue with this phone. -Jay
Re: drop issues I still have the phone but I got fed up with 3G constantly dropping calls. I set the phone to 2G only and I've had great service ever since. (dial 277634#*# --> modem settings --> network mode --> 2G only).
Re: drop issues If I had known how to do that I may have kept my CU320 for more than 26 hours. I would have switched to 3G mode for internet use, and then when leaving the computer put it back in 2G mode for calls. Oh well, too late now. -Jay
