Ok. Now I am looking at all option for my mobile phone! Im looking at Sprint and realy like the 5350. Can anyone tell me about this phone. Dislikes and likes. An I saw it had "40" chord ringtones. Whats the difference. Hey anthromatt, I saw your wife has it. What gets better signal, the 4900 or 5350.
    Thanks in advance, Crazyboy

I haven't really used her 5350 at all, but I have noticed it is very similar to the VX4400, which I am familiar with. Seems to be a decent phone and I think most people view it favorably. We only had Sprint since last Friday, so I don't have too much experience yet with either phone.

The 4900 gets the better signal and is usually considered to be the best Sprint phone as far as reception is concerned. Many people don't like its size though. Yeah, it is a candybar, but it is thinner than the 5350. Obviously it is a lot longer though and won't fit in a pocket as well if that is an issue. My only complaint regarding the 4900 is that I can't read the screen at all with polarized sunglasses on unless I turn on the backlight, but all color phones I have played with except the Audiovox 9500 suffered from this problem, so it is hard to complain too much.

If you live or travel in a fringe area where Sprint signals may be a bit weak definitely get the 4900. Another option is the new Sanyo 8100, but it is $99, as opposed to the $49 for the 4900 or 5350. I don't know what your budget is like.

Well I just got the 8100 today. The Sprint store was sold out when I went, but the rep that helped me called me today and asked if I wanted to do an exchange. The 4900 gets the best reception of all three. I don't know much about reception on the 8100 as I have only had it for about 3 hours now. My wife's 5350 never shows more than 1 signal bar at home, but you can't judge phones based upon signal bars. She has never dropped a call and no one says she is fading in or out, so I assume the LG is fine. Based on things I have read, I think the 4900 is the best for reception, then the 8100, then the 5350 when comparing those phones. Sanyo's tend to outperform other phones on Sprint for whatever reason.

If you are considering a Free and Clear America plan, the 8100 might be the best because it has 1900 and 800mHz digital as well as 800mHz analog, where the 4900 and 5350 do not have 800mHz digital.

Interesting. I have my cousins old Sanyo SCP-4000 and it shows full reception at my home. Should I like base sprint on that because I really wanted to see how the service would be at my house.

If it shows full reception I am sure that Sprint will be OK. Still, the only way to tell is to find someone that currently uses Sprint and have them bring their phone over to your place. Or you can go sign up...you get 14 days to cancel, but you won't get your activation fee back.
