Ok here is a math problem for all you that I thought would be fun to see how ou do on it. 1 box of tile has 96 pieces for a total of 12 square feet. There are 8 pieces to a square foot. How many full boxes and how many loose pieces would you give to a customer purchasing 100 square feet?? Give this a try.
YOU'RE ALL WRONG!!! For a project that small you usually account for 20% waste so you sell the customer 10 boxes exactly. If the customer doesn't open box #10 then he takes it back for a return. You don't want the customer pissed off that you didn't sell him enough to complete the job and send him back to the store to complete his project. -Jay
I was just thinking too... a box containing 12 square feet of tile??? How much does each box weigh? 100 pounds? Are you also helping him get all of this tile in the back seat of his Corolla? Most tile is packed in boxes of about 8 - 9 square feet. -Jay
HAHA no this has nothing to do with me tileing anything just wanted to see if you guys couldhandle this lol.
I want to know what the dimensions of the individual tiles are. Are they 6"x3" rectangles? 6"x6" right triangles? And good job to Jay for pointing out that selling the customer extra is a good idea.
Well, for that matter, if you need the actual dimensions of the tiles then it also goes to figure that you will need the exact dimensions of the area to be covered, and whether the tiles will be laid square, or at a 45 degree angle to the walls so you know exactly how many tiles need to be cut. My brain is starting to hurt. I'm thinking about this too much. -Jay
Oh, I forgot to add. I would think that most people don't bring the extra box back. They mean to, but never get around to it. That extra box = extra profits... At the bare mininum you get the interest on the sale of the extra box for the duration of the customer's project. Its not much, but I bet for Lowe's or Home Depot it adds up. -Jay
