PC World, CNET, and Phonescoop are all reporting today that the CEO of Motorola claimed the Q will ship next week. Earlier this week the head of the Moto mobile phone unit was quoted as saying almost the same thing. Those of you waiting on the V710 settlement should not confuse early next week's launch event as an indication that stores will have the phone ready to sell. Several Verizon employees in other forums have hinted it may be available through business channels only first.
Oh, yeah. Like that's going to stop the HoFoTro(ll)s from posting complaints about how VZW timed the launch to be JUST too late for the settlement, etc. etc. Frankly, I'd LOVE to use the settlement on a Treo 700p, but I've come to grips with the fact that there's no chance it'll be released by VZW before May 30. Well, that, and I'd like to read a review or two first.
Yes it will have push e-mail, people who are using the Q have confirmed this at qusers.com forum. As of a few days ago, the Q launch event was on for New York. If you go to nyse.com and look at the upcoming week you'll notice Moto CEO Ed Zander will be in NY to ring the opening bell Tues. Also Verizon has added the Q launch page, you can check it out yourself at www.vzwshop.com/q complete with commercial. Clearly this phone is ready to launch. The best "guess" is the Q launch event will be Monday or Tuesday and the phone will be available for sale online the following week and available in stores "a few days" after that.
Nice "guess". But who woulda thunk the pricing. http://www.engadget.com/2006/05/22/motorola-and-verizon-announce-q-199/ Here's the Link to the press release http://news.vzw.com/news/2006/05/pr2006-05-22.html If that doesn't work read it here: http://qusers.com/index.php?itemid=81
$199 (after rebate) w/ 2 year agreement is a bit surprising, but I wonder if Moto isn't subsudizing the Q more than they would an ordinary phone as a means to get more users and shake their bad luck with WM-powered devices...
Well, you probably are right, but either way I think it has worked. I'm ready to give it a shot for a measly $100 after NE2. If it sucks, I'll go back to my 7130e.
Interesting how Engadget seemed to "know" that the Q would be launched sometime this week. Very interesting... where do you suppose they read that? If you haven't already heard, the Motorola Q is now officially announced for Verizon Wireless. and, according to Edgadget, uh, I mean bonoriffic, it should be on sale later this week or early next week.
Bono, I think you're wrong on the push email. It's a pull email but the interval can be set so low that it appears to be "pushing" instantly. II
No it comes with push technology built in. From the press release: Continuous, two-way push-based wireless synchronization of all corporate PIM functions including e-mail, calendar, contacts, notes and tasks, as well as access to other applications including corporate intranets, CRM and ERP. Or read PC Mag's review, where they detail the two push e-mail methods that ship with the Q.
As Requested above, a Q Review. http://www.thestreet.com/_googlen/funds/goodlife/10287711.html?cm_ven=GOOGLEN&cm_cat=FREE&cm_ite=NA Still will wait for someone other than Verizon to carry it.
Ron Garriques said that he hopes to sell 3 million Qs in three months. That may be a lofty goal, I guess only time will tell.
II you are correct. There is no push email included. The two-way push available at this point is the Good Technology enterprise solution. Push for prosumers will be made available as a ROM upgrade from motorola in a couple of months. For now you will have to use POP3.
Push e-mail is supported, and requires a download to activate. If you don't want to use the Good solution and are looking for a free option, use Verizon's wireless sync which is a free download. It is not the most ideal configuration as it uses SMS messaging without the updates mentioned by Kirsh and must be running on an active computer. But it is push e-mail. From the Wireless Sync faq: Wireless Sync uses true IP push, which means that new emails are delivered to your device as soon as they arrive in your PC inbox.
Not sure thats true Push e-mail? I can tell you e-mails arrive on my BB sometimes faster than they do to the desktop. In fact if I e-mail somethiing to my BB address it goes through the BIS server and to my BB almost before the screen changes after I hit the send button. In the review I posted the reviewer indicates that on average the Q needed to be re-booted twice a day due to it freezing. I can tell you since the point I first turned it on I have never had my BB lock or freeze nor has it had to be re-booted. Not knocking the Q as it sounds promising, but I will wait for the kinks to be worked out before I switch.
I use wirelesssync on my i730. SMS is not implicated at all. SMS is for the OTA Activesync on phones without AUK2 (microsoft update that put in true push for sync with Exchange servers). True, it is not the best solution as your computer and internet connection must be on 24/7, but it has been pretty flawless for me.
Blackberry BIS and Wireless Sync (the POP3/IMAP configuration; NOT PC MONITOR configuration) work the same exact way. The Q on Wireless Sync should be pretty much instantaneous. Additionally, you can configure POP/IMAP access directly on the phone itself. As to resets, well, it is a Windows device, that's par for the course, IMO.
The review didn't say the Q needed to be rebooted twice a day, instead the article provided a made up statistic based on it running Windows and applied his obvious bias against Windows to the Q. I know people who have been using the Q non-stop for months with no issues. The review just assumes it will needed to be rebooted twice a day, actual use by real journalists shows his assumption to be incorrect.
From the web site Blackberry cool, review of the Q from the New York Times Article. http://www.blackberrycool.com/2006/06/08/001856/
Yet another review of the Q. This is a side by side comparison of the 8700C and the Q. Pretty good. Reiveiw also indicates that Cingular's version of the Q is due in November? http://www.barjohn.com/ Also another rumor circulating regarding the Q and Cingular. The Q with 3G? Now were talking!! "Rumor has it around November time frame with full 3G HSDPA support. Since this is about the time that Cingular will be doing their nationwide 3G roll out it makes good sense to have a device that can actually benefit from the serivce and entice users to use it."
Sounds like Cingular (and probably other carriers) are going to offer Push e-mail for windows devices, through a service upgrade. http://www.blackberrycool.com/2006/06/15/001881/#more-1881 Paul
I'm going on week 3 with the Q and LOVE IT! I am a happy new user of Verizon Wireless and the Q is everything I want in a device. The battery life with the original battery is only about a day, so the extended battery purchase was well worth it!
