Wow that's nice to know, too bad they aren't available here

Yes this make a lot of sense Andy, it would be nice if these smaller carriers merged together to make a bigger network but to keep the larger networks away so we don't get nickled & dimed to death, unfortunatly I don't think we will see that happening much in the future, especially with the current market concerns these smaller companies may not be able to get the finacial backing to do this.

I'm in agreement with you, Fire. The days of perks with the major cell carriers is long gone.

Yes, we still do the free holidays. New Year's, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. We also still have free incoming texts and pix. 7-7 is standard on most of our plans, too, as is free incoming on the single line plans.

Amazing. When I first signed up with them back in '02, I didn't even get an airtime promo. Local 1100 for $40 and free incoming texts (this was back in the TDMA days). Nights and m2m cost extra, and we were still a year or so away from launching the Incoming/Call-Me option. 7pm nights weren't even an option, and our "SpanAmerica" plans were horrible compared to the national carriers. Of course, this was before Verizon and ATT/Cingular decided to do the nationwide m2m, too. Back then, if you were roaming with any carrier, m2m didn't count. Everybody still offered local/regional plans. Now you can't get that with the big 4, except for the 3000 minute plans that *I think* Sprint and T-Mo still offer.

    Ah, memories.

Holidays have been gone for awhile, but I *think* that was the time before plans included unl n&w and m2m calls.

Text messaging: I think there was something put in my bill, but it could have been from another source I found out about it. (don't remember now). But at least on my Alltel account, I have the option to block messaging on My Account.

But that becomes a bit of a moot point since there are plans that include unlimited messaging.

With Detailed billing...I had this for free and I *definitely* remember getting a bill insert that it would change to $2/mth if I continued to get my bill in the mail. I changed to a paperless statement and I still have my call detail on that for no charge. And with the cost of postage steadily increasing, I really can't blame them for this...there are times that cell bills could be longer than a novel.

Yeah, n&w starting at 9 is pretty standard, but 7pm is starting to make a come back.

    just my :twocents:

Now, they're supposedly charging $20 to change between customer owned phones if you were to go into a store or call *611 instead of doing it online.

Yep, this has been going on for a while too. The $20 isn't as enforced as others, but it is yet another nickel-and-dime situation. I'm thinking this is more of a deterrent charge to get people to use the website more so than getting help from a real person. It's stupid, but it is Verizon...

With all of the changes they've made to "My Verizon" lately, I think this is the route they're going. I think it's better organized than before.

What next, $2.00 fee for talking to *611 for things that could have been done on vzw.com, Wells Fargo bank style?

At this point nothing would surprise me. If there's a profit to be made, even by adding a minuscule charge, they'll do it, and the other carries will soon follow.

One would hope they would embrace individuality, but if one stumbles up a creative, profit-making charge to pass on to unsuspecting customers, you know the others won't be far behind...

Verizon is also brand label whore.

It has three of this on the phone itself and it shows up on both the main and subscreen on startup, then again on main screen on shut down.

Just now, I found out they notch in the Verizon V checkmark into the wallpaper right below the reception indicator...

AT&T/Cingular is also a brand label whore. The Nokia 6102i has the AT&T logo on the front face and inside below the main screen. The startup animation and themes are ALL AT&T-centric. This is not the first AT&T phone I've seen heavily branded.

Granted AT&T hasn't gone the way of their own UI, but there's very little in the way of forgetting you one an AT&T phone. The reminders are plentiful.

Yep, this is what I've done many times. I got the 6102i because it was cheaper to buy as a GoPhone than to buy it at full price, plus the unlocked versions tend to be tri-band Euro models.
