Oh please! AT&T is big enough already and should not be allowed to acquire Leap! That's just pure greed on AT&T's part and this will not help the consumer one bit. It will eliminate yet another good competitor and lead to price increases. Not to mention that it's a technology incompatibility.

AT&T needs to stop buying other carriers and use the money to improve their overloaded network and expand 3G. If they did that they would not have to worry about the competition.

I agree, it is good to have companies like Cricket and Metro PCS out there in the market.

AT&T has nothing to benefit by buying Leap. Leap only plays it safe and builds networks in the top 200 cities in which the big guys are already there.

I would suspect Metro or another player. I used to suspect USCC but they seem to have lost their testicles as of lately.

This makes no sense at all other than a greedy move by AT&T to keep ahead of Verizon for the No. 1 spot. If Leap is going to do anything it should be to try again for a merger with Metro PCS. Even a Sprint/Leap makes more sense than AT&T.

I think you hit the nail on the head Larry it's so they can get back in 1st or closer to Verizon, just like when Verizon bought Alltel it was to help them become #1 again.
I also agee the money would be better spent on upgrading their network to all 3G & handle the capacity issues in some area's of the country, it's all part of the big guy taking out the little guy & we will end up with 3 or 4 total carriers down the road.

buyouts like Dobson, Centennial etc make sense because of same network being used.

AT&T buying Leap would be pure customer driven, then you have a network you would have integrate and some BS AWS spectrum to deal with.

Not to jump off topic, but that is what Bell and Telus are currently or have done already here in Canada. Upgrading there networks to GSM as Rogers was the leading carrier because it was the only GSM carrier in the country.

You are right Fire14, it could end up being just AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and maybe Metro PCS.

(It's weird I haven't heard of Leap Wireless until just now.)
