I'm in Vegas and the coverage is terrible. Even with microcells in most of the casinos, the network is massively overloaded. Data is slow or unusable. Google maps constantly says it requires a working internet source'. Most of the time my phones are in 1X mode EC/IO levels are -20 to -32. Every call requires 30 seconds to get out. This is on 2 pres and a tour. Even if the phone finally flips to Verizon it won't stay on it (nor is the situation a whole lot better on Vz according to my work curve). I've noticed (at the Wynn/Encore pools) iPhones drop multiple calls, so it seems a lot of people are having problems. Annoying thing is my battery is lasting 2 to 5 hours tops. Worst thing is my pre got so hot (trying to find a signal @ the Wynn pool) that the skin started cracking! The black edges all around my screen and microphone have hair thin lines...which sprint is going to claim is "physical damage". At least the weather has been great...can't wait to get the phones back on the reliable Philly network. Sprint didn't have these issues years ago...but when I have 1 bar (-88db -32 ecio) outside the Paris hotel...that's a poorly designed network. Palm webos rocks but the phones themselves are made cheaply, hope Sprint believes me!
Good to see you back on WA Airb! That doesn't sound like Sprint in Vegas. I have been there many times and never had those type of issues at some of those same places. I'm baffled as to why that is happening.
Sucks you're having so much trouble. Every month or two I (or someone on my team) travels to Vegas, and never has problems on our Palm Centros. Frequently we stay north of the Bellagio, close to the strip, but sometimes also travel south to the airport, or out to Henderson and other surrounding areas. Signal has been very good almost everywhere we go (inside a few casino corners voice service may be a little weak and choppy... outside we've never had a problem). The battery lasts approximately one full (busy business) day for us before it needs a recharge... which is pretty much the same as if we were in SoCal (Sprint is great here). The last time I was in Vegas was 4/10/10, and still had great Sprint service. Maybe Sprint is experiencing issues right now when you just happen to be there?
I agree with larry this time. Sprint's coverage in Vegas was top notch when I was there in 2008. Something is up in Vegas.
Long time no see Airb. Sprint is normally rock solid across the whole valley. I'm wondering if they are doing upgrades which are causing the issues.
Sprint usually adds about 10-12 new sites in Vegas each year so coverage should only be getting better there. Some of those are on or near the strip.
no coverage @ us air check in, but coverage is ok in terminal a (-95db -10ecio). I charged ny phone overnight-- new cracks all along the screen today (the actual screen now). It looks like I smashed my phone against something in my pocket. I refuse to pay a 100 deductable for palm's ____ty design (we are both on our 3rd pres). I'd rather cancel and pay the 150ish etf for a point, my fiance can use his work bb tour and I can get a decent deal on a 1yr vz contract. I was excited for the evo (tho I think adroid pales compared to webos). I think it'll have bad coverage, wimax on 2500 sounds like drop call city considering there are a few areas in NJ where sprint is MIA and Vz is weak. Glad to just get away from this weak service, it was truly baffling. Maybe towers down for wimax tuning?
I've never heard of WiMax tuning causing the regular CDMA network to go down. They are completely separate signals and usually not even on the same towers.
Coverage and phone battery life are back to normal in Philly, S. NJ, and Wilmington I, however, am really annoyed with Sprint. They tested my phone and found "the phone was insanely hot when we tested it, so we replaced the battery." Me---"Well the hairline cracks are clearly caused from the heat dissipating through the cheap plastic...look at it, it is immaculate otherwise. Who is to say it isn't the phone causing the problem, not the battery?" Sprint:"No, you dropped it and there is physical damage, you'll have to pay $119". (Why $119 I have no idea?) I even called 611 and Sprint told me to cancel. I am looking at moving my 3 lines over to Verizon...they have great deals on 1 year contracts for us through my fiance's company discount. Screw paying for Palm's crappy design. I even said to Sprint, meet me in the middle here, $50 statement credit and I'll pay the $100 (and enjoy throwing the pre against the wall...might as well actually damage it no?) They said to cancel because they cannot do anything. Pretty stupid since I spend $160 a month with them and have had 1 line since 2007 and 2 others since 2008. So I am looking at the HTC Incredible mostly. I can get it for essentially 2 year pricing on a 1 year. Greg wants to go back to iPhones when the new one comes out...but I seriously hate that phone. It drops too many calls in places where ATT is rock solid. Plus I want a new phone every year...Sprint was great with that, and 1 year on Verizon gives us options. Heck, LTE will likely be in our area in 12 months. It's a shame ATT does not do 1 years anymore or has a no-contract option if we all bought GSM phones off ebay. I have finance class tonight, so I will call Sprint back and hopefully talk to someone else. Knowing my phone will be unusable in a few days and Greg's phone is slowly getting bubbles in the plastic....I am not paying for Palm's crap design. We're already on #3 (each), so we've been through 6....get a clue Sprint.
Airb, it's interesting they think you dropped the phone and that's why the crack was there. If you had dropped it on the ground, there would be visible scuffing at or near the crack point, or somewhere else on the phone. Phones very easily show scuff marks after a fall...At least this has been my experience the very few times I've dropped a phone. Unless the phone is made out of Fisher-Price plastic, where even dropping it on carpet could cause a crack, I don't get how they can be so stupid about the heat/cracking issue. Oh well, good luck wherever you end up.
Update. I went to another Sprint store and in 30 seconds I had a new replacement phone on order. They agreed with me completely. I had the phone in 2 days. I emailed Sprint about the Las Vegas coverage, and they said they had increased cellular loads in Las Vegas that weekend. I don't see why, but at least they acknowledged there was a problem.bThey gave me a $10 credit for 24 months. Cannot beat that. So Sprint went far beyond what they needed to do to retain my business, In other news, my partner's Pre is broken (again). His third replacement's earpiece does not work. Time for #4.... WebOS=Great Pre hardware= Junk!
Sounds good all around to me. I agree as well, the pre was a piece of junk. Poor webOS, it deserves better.
Ick, no thanks! Just their picture up on the Flamingo freaked me out enough. I thought Vegas was PACKED that week compared to when I was there in 2008 for a work conference. Every person that I talked to at the Wynn, however, said it was dead. We could barely walk anywhere it was so packed, so I find that very odd! Sprint's network seems to agree with me.
Yankees and Airb...I just went to Sprint. LOVE the pre...you guys are scaring me! I am in love with webos. I realize now how horribly HORRIBLE Windows Mobile was on my at&t Treo 750.
