Looks like walmart is going to have these HP pavilion sempron laptops on sale for 348 bucks 5-11am Friday. Of course I want more memory....DVD burner etc...that you can't add.....you have to buy this model.

The AMD Sempron is a crappy processor. I'd say it's currently the worst processor on the market. The HP Pavilion Sempron laptop at Wal-Mart is going to be $378 actually and it's a good deal for what you pay but I don't recommend it.

That $378 notebook at Wal-Mart on friday is ok if you are on a really tight budget and just plan on using it for email, web surfing, and typing. However if you have the money just get the Toshiba for $996. You'd be much happier with the Toshiba. I was at Office Depot yesterday and I saw a very similar Toshiba notebook for $1250.

At $996 the Toshiba is a great deal. I know the Wal-Mart's in my area are having trouble keeping them in stock. Everytime they get a batch in they sell out quickly and you have to wait about a week before they are back in stock.

    It is? I didn't know that (I haven't bought a laptop since 2003).

    Thanks for the update, ShoresGuy.

Thanks Dan! I'm liking the Compaq Turion one.......I'm sure Gideon would like for me to get that one too! ;)

PLUS that one has a DVD burner as well.....most only have the CD burner/DVD drive....no DVD burning.

Yep, most new HP, Fujitsu Siemens, Compaq and Samsung laptops I've seen launched here in Germany tend to have built-in WLAN along with a Centrino processor even if the price is around 990 Euros.

I only let it charge for like 2 hours until I started messing with it. Then I let it charge some more... but I kept going back to it! I think I effected its battery life because of that lmao. Only around 2 hours!!! :lmao:

That's a great price, Mediamarkt here in Germany has an Acer laptop with an Intel Centrino processor, double-layer DVD burner, WLAN and 15" screen on sale for 899 Euros. I'd go for it if my laptop was already dead but I'll get a PC next.

Congratulations on your new toy Shizam. :)

How do you like it so far? Have you set up your wireless router?

    I love it! :D

I did set up my router...however, it isn't the Belkin one that was given to me. That one I found to have no power adapter/cord....and it was one of those special 5V one's that you had to order through them.....I couldn't even get a universal one :(

SO...I took advantage of the 69.99 Linksys router from best buy (39.99 with the rebates :D )

I set it up....but it didn't work. I had it set up along side my Vonage Linksys router. I had to disconnect that and ONLY hook up the wireless one....just for setup purposes. Then I had to clone my PC's MAC address....in the router settings.....are you familiar with that? Did you have to do that?
Anyhow...for whatever reason I did that....then I set up security with tech support (yep...I had to call them to help me set it up when the screen told me to call them...it didn't work :O ) So now I am WEP encrypted (???) with the 10 digit key.

Cool. You can't go wrong with Linksys. :)

No. I didn't have to clone mine (most likely since I do not have a Vonage router). I just hooked it up to our modem, and then ran the installation. I did the same thing when I bought my Linksys Wireless-G Game Adapter (that I now use for my Xbox 360 :D).

It's kind of cool now to be able to do computer things from my laptop on the couch instead of at the computer desk. :D

    Exactly. ;)

Personally, I like to take my PDA/MP3 player/WiFi web browser outside on my lanai and get some sun (when it is sunny almost everyday....basically in later June/early July when I am done with my classes until August).

And just recently, I found out how to stream dance/trance/techno music to my PDA from around the world. So wherever I have a WiFi connection (where it is not blocked or I don't have to pay), I can have access to any type of music from around the world to listen to on my pda. :D

What's X-Mas for :D? The season of giving :D!! Honestly, I prefer smaller items for X-Mas since I like to purchase my phones on my own instead of getting them as presents.

I considered a WLAN router when I moved into my new place earlier this year but it's too small to make it worth my while to set up a WLAN network.

Setting up a network was easier than I thought. I like to be able to be in my room while on the internet on my laptop.

Now all I need is a wireless print server and a wireless media player (maybe sometime in the future I will get both of them) and I will be all set. ;)

Your print server wouldn't have to be wireless if it's close enough to your router. And a wireless print server could just be an old machine with wireless card and parallel/usb printer.
