Here is a summary of recent internet news for upcoming Moto phones, as well as some speculation seen around the web. My own comments are at the end. KRZR K1 (K1c) - Code name Canary - A less narrow and slightly longer RAZR like flip phone - Carriers currently testing: Cingular and Verizon - Release date speculated from Sept. to October Capri - Slider variant of KRZR - Currently seen as GSM prototype, however CDMA is highly likely - Only known by code name, official name not yet made public RAZR 2 - Almost every new RAZR like phone Moto creates will instantly be dubbed the RAZR 2. - Currently the actual RAZR 2 (or next generation RAZR) has not been leaked. SCPL - Next generation design platform, super thin - Confirmed by Moto to exist - No pictures have been made public or leaked - Early 2007 is expected release The KRZR is pronounced craze - er. High profile phones, what Moto calls iconic designs will be kept secret as long as possible and be made available shortly after announcement. This is the so called Apple release strategy. The most likely announcement date is July 25th, which is the date of Motorola's analyst meeting. The RAZR was also first announced at this event.
Very interesting, bonoriffic.... thanks! An early look at the capri can be found here: http://www.phonescoop.com/articles/moto_capri/ I've never owned a slider but I really like what I see!
Bono - Engadget Mobile has photos of a v3x-alike, only they're saying it's got UMTS 850/1900. Any additional details you can pass on?
Hi Bonoriffic & everyone. A few days ago I was searching for new Moto phones and I saw the Canary. I figured someone in here would mention it. Here is a link to where you can see the pictures of it. It looks good. I know, if sold by Verizon, people would just get used to it. Looks like its a definate upgrade to the Razr. They call it the Razr 2 like you mentioned. Enjoy the photos. http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2006/06/14/motorola-canary-razr-2-hands-on/ On the link below, click on the Photo gallery and take a look at the comparison of the Razr and the Canary. Hummm....what do you think of this side by side view!?! Takes some getting used to for sure. http://www.ubergizmo.com/15/archives/2006/06/howardforums_spots_motorola_canary.html
Bonoriffic, any info on VZW bluetooth? Are they going to lighten up and allow A2DP, OPP, and OBEX on the K1c? Is the UI the new Flash UI?
bono, what (if any) upgrades to the GUI are coming with the KRZR, etc? Is Motorola ever going to perform a full overhaul on the menu system?
The true name of Canary may not be KRZR K1 after all. Here is how the GSM and CDMA versions are different, I'll let you figure out which feature the other phone doesn't have. Stereo bluetooth 2 MP camera MP3 touch sensors
Check out shyster's pic's on HOFO. The A2DP and MP3 touch sensor buttons are for the CDMA/VZW K1c. It looks sweeeeeet.
If anyone heard the Moto Q2 financial results audio portion (available on the web), you would hear Moto executives refer to the unveiling of new phones this coming Monday. I expect the main announcement to be the K1. (The four letter name can't be correctly displayed here) The phone will be available for some carriers within a few weeks. I've heard up to 4 phones will be announced and new bluetooth headsets too. it is highly unlikely the next generation RAZR (what some call RAZR II) or SCPL will even be mentioned. You can watch the event live on the web at 7pm EST.
anyone have any meeting minutes or cliff notes on what all took place @ this event??? It'd be most appreciated!!! okthnxbybye!!!:lmao:
If someone could predict the future, they wouldn't be hanging out here. The event takes place on Monday.
I know that the CDMA version does NOT have the A2DP stereo bluetooth profile but the GSM version has it. I posted these links over at HowardForums. Motorola K1c (CDMA) list of qualified Bluetooth profiles http://qualweb.bluetooth.org/Template2.cfm?LinkQualified=QualifiedProducts&Details=Yes&ProductID=3511 Qualified profile : - DUN-GW - GAP - Headset-AG - HFP (1.5) AG Motorola K1 (GSM) list of qualified Bluetooth profiles http://qualweb.bluetooth.org/Template2.cfm?LinkQualified=QualifiedProducts&Details=Yes&ProductID=3547 Qualified profile : - A2DP-Source - AVCTP - AVDTP - AVRCP-Target - BIP-ImagePush - BPP (1.2) Sender - GAP - GAVDP - Headset-AG - HFP (1.5) AG - OPP-Client - OPP-Server - DUN-GW - FT-Server It amazes me how many more profiles the GSM version has over the CDMA version. Verizon must really ask Motorola to limit them (just like the V3m).
It is official, the KRZR has finally been made public. I had caught word of a late name change but that did not take place. As earlier said, the Verizon version (K1m) has only a 1.3 MP camera while making up for it with external touch controls for MP3 operation. The best of the bunch is an Asia only model of KRZR that sports a QVGA screen. Previously code-named Capri, the slider variant of the KRZR will be called RIZR. A slider bluetooth headset was revealed to match the RIZR and a new headset to match the KRZR. CDMA finally gets the SLVR with the L7c. Europe gets the RAZR MAXX and RAZR XX, HSPDA versions of the RAZR. http://www.motorola.com/mediacenter/news/detail.jsp?globalObjectId=7064_7013_23
Yes it does have stereo bluetooth, GSM boy. KRZR K1m: A KRZR for CDMA networks. Features EV-DO high speed data, but downgrades the camera to 1.3 megapixels. Also features a media player with touch-sensitive playback keys hidden beneath the glass of the phone's cover, as well as stereo Bluetooth and support for location-based services such as turn-by-turn directions.
:nono: I love people who flame without reading. First, my information came directly from the Bluetooth qualification program website. I'm not making it up. Just goto those links I posted in my previous post and read for yourself. I was simply responding to bonoriffic's post where he said "I'll let you figure out which feature the other phone doesn't have". Second, my post was posted on July 23rd before we even knew that it was going to be called the K1m. Motorola's announcement was made on July 24th. Third, the information on Motorola's website indicate that the CDMA K1m does NOT have the A2DP stereo bluetooth. Here's Motorola's own page for the K1m which doesn't indicate A2DP. http://www.motorola.com/motoinfo/product/details.jsp?globalObjectId=161 And here's their page for the K1 (GSM) that indicates support stereo bluetooth. http://www.motorola.com/motoinfo/product/details.jsp?globalObjectId=160 If you don't like that info, then read MobileBurn.com's articles for both phones that indicate the same information. They clearly state that the CDMA version will not have A2DP. http://www.mobileburn.com/review.jsp?Id=2570 http://www.mobileburn.com/review.jsp?Id=2569 Lastly, if you look at my profile, I'm not a GSM boy, I'm a Verizon customer. My personal cell phone service provider is Verizon. My job pays for my Cingular service.
SamK you are correct. K1m will not have A2DP. Motorola says NO. http://direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/motokrzr/experience/
