What is Cingular's 3G going to support? 2100MHz?

I am trying to decide between SE 790a and 800i. Please advise.

    I would appreciate any information!

Thanks for the reply...so the 2100 frequency I would get with K800i would be of no use to me.

I guess my next question would be...how much does one need 850Mhz in a major metro area? Would 1900 suffice? And if it would, would I be able to use 3G features of a K800i with Cingular on the 1900 frequency?

Re: Cingular Phones Coming Soon! *** UPDATED 11/16/06 ***

Cingular got some 2100Mhz licenses in the most recent auction. However, we have to be careful when we talk about 2100. There are two types of 2100Mhz for 3G, the one used in Europe (2100/1900Mhz) and the one used in America (2100/1700Mhz).

The 2100Mhz used in Europe is NOT compatible with the 2100Mhz used in America because the uplink frequency used is different. Even though they may overlap at some points they are still incompatible.

So the previous fact remains that the 2100Mhz on your K800i would be of no use to you.

    Thanks for the replies everyone!

It is then either the 790a with the 850/1900 bands...or I have to be patient and wait for Cingular to get more phones...hopefully soon!

V3x looks like a pretty neat looking phone. Is there any more info on it yet? What is the average time for "testing?"

I understand that each phone has a different length of testing due to many different factors, but what is the average turn over time?

It's hard to tell an average, but I've noticed it takes a few months. Shouldn't go over 4 or 5 months I think.

Played around it with it today and I still think RIM should have put the 3G on it. I don't know why Cingular did not push for it.

Maybe RIM couldn't do it for them yet, but it would have made this an even better unit. It appears people like this phone.

It is a great phone. We need to keep in mind that RIM has the 8707 which is UMTS and the guts of it is shared between the 8700, 7130 and the 8100 (aka pearl). I don't think it would have been hard for them to put them together into the pearl. One thought in mind is that RIM might think it is not needed as the device is mostly used for email and not like the rest and that it is fast enough for that.

That's an excellent point, but it would have been an added selling feature for non-business users.
If I had the use for it, It would be tops on my phone list.

Exactly. The pearl is marketed towards the mases not jsut the business user and that should have been at least UMTS. The Blackjack is a 3g unit and if WM5 gets to be stable RIM could be in for some good competition

I just got my KRZR from Midwest Wireless. Its an amazing phone. Given, the K1m is a tad diffrent, 1MP cam, but thats it.

I just dropped Cingular because of network issues, but hey, its nice to see their getting this phone!

Looked on cingulars website, they do not have the KRZR K1 up yet. Any idea what the price might be with all the discounts, 2 yr contract etc...?

I would say not less than $199. Moto is selling it at around $330 with no contract. Actualy 2 people ordered it yesterday with the discount of 20% and included the BT headset for $279.

I have been with VZ for 4 yrs. Contract is up this Feb. So dont mind the stupid questions, I gotta start somewhere right? My question is.... Best buy has them listed as 79.99 with a contract. What are the repercussions if I signed up through them rather then Cingular. Also does anyone know if a retailer can grant the FAN discounts (government worker discount)

What coupon code did they use to get 20% off of the Krzr?

If I buy a Krzr off Moto's website should it work fine with Cingular since they are supposingly getting it?

The fine print of third-party retailers usually stipulates that you can't change anything on your plan for 6 months (or at least go to a lower plan), and have their own ETF in addition to Cingular's. Don't know about FAN.

It seems that they were out of stock of the H350 gray headset that comes with the promo and not the handset, so i just placed an order and they are sending the black color H350 instead.....better for me.;)

There is also a rumor that Cingular is going to release the Nokia N75 sometime in January. HoFo even has a special thread just for posts about the release date  . I've read this and some related threads and it is exactly like the discussions we had about the 6282 and then the 6126. So funny. :lmao: :p

The current expected date for the Nokia N75 is Feb 13 or 14. It looks to be a very nice, but expensive phone. Rumor is, it will cost around $200 with a 2 year contract and unlimited MediaNet (for the $50 rebate). As far as features, only thing I would want that it doesn't have is HSDPA (just UMTS). I'm off Cingular, however so I won't be buying this one any time soon. We'll see if Nokia sells it unlocked and without Cingular crippleware.
