Re: New Cingular fonez coming soon!

Unless my Cingular source made a typo, it should be the 6126. I got the specs for the 6126 from the Internet separately. But that phone looks awesome. I'm just not too impressed with the claimed battery life.

Re: New Cingular fonez coming soon!

No, I bet it's not a typo. The 6126 is the US version of the 6131. It is also listed on the Nokia "Expected soon" page for N. America.

    http://www.phonescoop.com/articles/3gsm_2006/index.php?p=nok

    http://www.phonescoop.com/news/item.php?n=1672

    http://www.nokiausa.com/phones/expectedsoon

Oddly, the neither the 6131 nor the 6126 are in the PhoneScoop database, but the 6125, a similar but slightly less impressive phone, is. That's why I was asking about what had happened to it.

I agree with you about the battery life on the 6126, though. Must be those big high res displays :)

Re: New Cingular fonez coming soon!

Phonescoop says that the 6126 lacks FM Radio, but Nokia says it does.

Several things I like about this phone already:

    - Button to open the flip. I can imagine with the design of this phone it must be hard to open it without some helping mechanism.
    - Bluetooth stereo headset support. I don't have to be confined to the bulky pop port.
    - Convenient MicroSD slot location. You don't have to power off the phone to remove/insert the car. Surprisingly some manufacturers have designed several phones out there that require you to remove the battery to have access to the MicroSD card. Stupid!
    - Works without a SIM card! Yep. Finally, a phone you can use its non-wireless features without having to insert a SIM card!

Now, let's hope the bottomline works as good too. In other words, no buggy software, great reception and great earpiece volume and call quality.

Re: New Cingular fonez coming soon!

I've been looking for a nice replacement for my trusty Nokia 6200. It's going to come down to this 6126 or the 6282 you posted pictures of earlier. I really like the slide design of the 6282 - when closed it doesn't look like a phone and you can use the Web browser and MP3 player without having the keypad open. Ultimately, though, the flip 6126 may be more practical.

I guess the good thing about waiting until July for the 6126 is that we may have some user reviews of both phones by then - given that the 6282 is released by the beginning of June, as everyone thinks, and since Nokia reported yesterday that they have begun shipping the 6126's European twin, the 6131.

Hopefully the folks on PhoneScoop will put the 6131 into their main database so we can accumulate some user reviews/ratings ! :browani:

Re: New Cingular fonez coming soon!

As I state in my disclaimer, all posted launch dates are estimated and can change at any time. So don't be surprised if they turn out to be incorrect. Also, sometimes there may be a phone with a posted release date, but still this does not guarantee that Cingular will ever release it. They may change their mind at the last minute and kill the phone.

For those who haven't been following the somewhat contentious "discussion" over on HoFo, the consensus seems to be that the 6282 will not be released by Cingular. Didn't pass its testing period, apparently. :(

I don't know any more than this, but the mods there have closed the thread on the 6282 under the Cingular section. Guess that's what bobolito meant by

Guess I'll be waiting a bit longer for some new Nokias. [IMG]

Yep...the same thing has happened to other phones so it is only wise to state that as a disclaimer.

I guess I will be waiting as well, I was going to buy a new never out of the box 6230 off e-bay. With the advice of Charlyee I asked when the phone was manufactured but have not gotten a response so I am not going to gamble and buy the phone. Thank-you Charlyee:)

Re: New Cingular fonez coming soon!

According to Phonescoop, Cingular scrapped the N80 and 6282 because they don't have WCDMA 850. Cingular wants to ensure all phones have WCDMA 850. So I say that's a good move on Cingular's part. They don't want to make the same expensive mistake AT&T Wireless did. Cingular asked Nokia for revised versions that include WCDMA 850. When are these manufacturers going to learn that 850 is as important as 1900?

Yes, although as you know, there were other indications that Cingular had decided to go ahead with at least the 6282, despite this deficiency. Obviously they knew its features before they went into testing, so there must have been a chance that they would release it. Maybe that was just one of the factors or maybe a directive came down from on high. We'll probably never know. I'll get over it....but I was really looking forward to this one [IMG] :D ;)

Be sure to read between the lines. ;) Cingular didn't entirely reject the phones. They are just asking Nokia to modify them to include UMTS 850. So maybe there's some hope depending on what Nokia says. Of course, they could have other names like 6282a or N80a. Who knows? What we know is the release date will be much later if they decide to add UMTS 850.
