ATT PDA Phone - Plan Conversion

I am in a bit of a dilemma...I purchased an ATT (Audiovox) PDA phone approx 2 yrs ago, and I now want to get a family plan and purchase an additional phone for my wife. The problem is that in Feb 06 my plan is complete and I will be forced to miograte to Cingular, I was informed that my phone is no longer usable on the Cingular network, since it was rather expensive, I obviously am not interested in purchasing a new phone. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I might fix this problem? Are these phone usable on any other network?

Re: New Cingular fonez coming soon!

Which Audiovox model is it? About the only reason for Cingular to say that, was that it has only the GSM 1900 MHz band for North America and lacks the 850 MHz band.

If your coverage is satisfactory, then you might wish to have it unlocked by a third party. You should search for this service yourself. Thereafter, you could use an orange Cingular SIM (and rate plan with rollover) instead of your existing blue ATTWS SIM. While your PDA phone was away, simply put your SIM in another ATTWS or unlocked GSM phone.

Or study the available PDA phone on the Cingular website. There are several refurbished models available, including the Treo 650 for $139.99.

Hey Tripy.. nice to see you here! :D

I kinda doubt we'll see the V3x at all, at least from Cingular.

By the way, I read there are plans to release another V3 with EDGE, but I don't think it will be anytime soon.

Moto has a 3G phone in the works that is going under the code name "Carina" and it will be a UMTS device instead of HSDPA. My understanding is that it is the device we know as the V3x.

Tripy, thanks for posting the image, and no I did not know that the phone had been out for about a month now. I was going by the article on MSNBC's site that said the phone was being released on Wednesday. Darn, thought I had a scoop for WA peeps, guess not. Thanks again

the v3x looks pretty sweet, but what would we do with a UMTS phone if we have no real UMTS service here yet? one would not use ther phone at its full potential, which kind'a makes it overkill.

I would too, the Razr is nice looking but it's too wide and thin for me, I mean I would like to try 1 for a couple of weeks to see if I would be comfortable with it, but prefer how the V series feels when holding it.

How reliable is the Razr? Is it known for breaking easily or cracking? Im gonna be in the market for a phone soon and the Razr is at the top of my list. I've read a few complaints about the phone casing cracking and wondered if thats a widespread problem.

Re: New Cingular fonez coming soon!

I just saw on **another site** that the Motorola V3i is being released by Cingular on May 01. There are rumors that the delay is because they are adding EDGE to it. If so I think I may hold off on upgrading next week and see if this is really true. Anyone else hear anything on this?

Re: New Cingular fonez coming soon!

I hope that's true, but I kinda doubt it. I heard Motorola was having issues with their EDGE chipset having low performance, and Cingular didn't like it, one of the reasons the V635 didn't see the light in Cingular's lineup. That's just what I read so don't quote me on it. The delay on the V3i might be for another reason because I doubt Motorola can resolve the EDGE problems that quick. Maybe in the second half of this year Motorola will have something with EDGE that's acceptable to Cingular.

Apperantly nothing went well since we are still waiting for this phone,, but from the ones listed with pics,, I already bought the Motorola SLVR, and that is a great phone.. I bought it for my wife and so far, is the best phone she ever had.. She just need to get used to it some what since she had been a Samsung and Sanyo user for so long..

If by the time I get back from my deployment, unless I don't see anything better, I might get me the RAZR V3i but only if its worth getting it since it looks just like the crapy original version..

Hopefully they made the keys on the new RAZR like the SLVR. My friend has the RAZR and I don't like the keys. The keys on my SLVR are more defined. I think this helps when doing txt messages.

For me the keys on the SLVR is what made hold off on getting it, they felt to closed together and small as opposed to the Razr's keys which are easier to use imo.

Ok, so forget about the V3x. My question now is does anyone know how long it will be before cingular stocks any 3G Motorola? I looked today and my only 3G choices were an LG & a Samsung. I guess I'd choose the lesser of the 2 evils and get the Samsung, but I really want a Moto...
