Don't know the actual confirmed date, but a leaked internal news release says the Blackberry 9000 (Blackberry Bold) should be released on October 2nd. Its going for 299 with a 2-year contract.

    Thanks much. :)

Any information on the "no contract" price for it?

Based on AT&T's history and their pricing this should be between $499 and $549 (the $499 is the most likely one)

We saw those in the local company store and in Best Buy last month.

New rugged Military spec phone available now through AT&T

I stopped by my local store yesterday and they showed me the new Samsung Rugby. Its a 3G MIL SPEC flip phone that supposedly you're able to drive over it with your car and not break it. Just the thing for teens that constantly break their phones... ;) I think this is probably geared towards the construction market. If you didn't know better you'd assume it was a Nextel phone because its so big and yellow. At $129.99 after rebate its affordable.

I have played with a Rugby and as much as I hate Samsucks its not a bad phone.

Its similar to the Readylink phones Sprint was pushing a few years ago but it feels metallic and the spring action on the flip should stiffer, it feel like no spring pressure. I would rather have a rubberized cover.

The OS has improved alittle over the previous Samsungs I have played with.

I would almost own one, but I would have to test it awhile based on my previous experience with them.

The manager of my local shop said that she has not had one come back yet. I was quite impressed with it, but I really have no use for a phone like that.

After having Black Berrys and Smart Phones I dont know if I could go back to just a flip or candy bar phone. I keep my back up nokia in my cup holder but its more or less my network sniffer.

The PTT is still based on POC which is still pain fully slow and PTT on any network is just annoying IMO. Nothing like hearing "Chirp, Garble Hey" "Chirp, what up". I hate being in public places and hearing people having conversations that should be on the phone and not broad cast domestic disputes over a load speaker.

For being a Samsuck and being rugged which you really dont see in GSM/UMTS I was impressed. If I didnt have an un-beatable plan and buying my phones outright I would consider one for my daughter (she has already destroyed a Nokia 6010, Nokia 2600, Sony w600i and now using my 4 year old Blackberry)

Maybe I will wait till you can get refurbs and get one.

Yeah, I'm very similar. I love the Tilt so much I don't think I can go back to a "normal" phone anymore either. I keep a Moto V551 in the console in my truck to search networks and towers. Even the Moto V9 doesn't sway me. I get pleanty of enjoyment out of my red classic V3 on the rare occasions that I use it.

Is the V9x different from the V9? I haven't been following the Motorola models lately. Leslie's store has had the Razr2 V9 for a long time.

I have been eyeing the Moto ROKR E6 which was only released overseas but it has huge potential for modding. I think its only 2G but it would get that "what the hell is that" factor.

I used to get bored with my devices till I got the Tilt. If I get board I just start downloading more crap and changing everything around and its like a new phone. The only downfall is slightly slower graphics and no accelerometer.

I have changed so much its crazy, after hours of playing with it I know how better battery life and it picks up stronger than it did out of the box.

Same here! I just looked today and I was shocked to see that my next upgrade is in the spring! My local dealer has told me that there's a new & improved Tilt coming soon, I'll probably get that.

My local dealer treats me better than a COR. Just the deal they gave me on a outright Tilt and thru in the memory card. I have help out their customers in the past and they email me once and awhile instead of using the correct channels so they can get faster answers.

    Jay check your PM.

I had only stopped in for a moment, I didn't have time to ask many questions. I'll try to stop in later and find out exactly what they were talking about.

It adds 45 megs of ram and GPS and weighs 4.4 ozs. I did not get to check the UI but sure hope it was updated to be something like they have in the V8 which I think is much better than the standard but we all know that the V8 UI is Linux based.

So what's that? A BJ II with a touchscreen? I can't see any other difference. @ $20 more than a BJ II it seems like a good deal.

The biggest upgrade is actually the fact it is a WM 6.1 Pro, which now makes it a full PDAPhone, the Blackjack II is WM 6 Standard SmartPhone and does not have Edit functions, E-Mail attachments etc.

The price is certainly right on it.

IMO looks like a new incarnation of a Blackjack but with D pad versu the normal menu wheel.

Touchscreen with qwerty keyboard is nice, kinda Treo knock off.

but from what I see that this one is much thicker and a big chnge from the BlackJack size. I thought that the BlackJack II got the WM 6.1 upgrade or did I read that wrong?

It is, infact it has the same feature set as the Treo Pro that was just launched by Palm. The no contract, no rebate price difference between the two is $50-$100 depending on where you get the Treo Pro from. Ofcource the Treo is unbranded and unlocked.

BTW, it was originally going to be called Blackjack III and a many AT&T sales reps still know it by that name. :)
Hey hf1khal, nice to hear from you. I am not sure where you read that but the Blackjack II is WM6 Standard, SmartPhone version :)

Sorry, I did not mean that. But I wish I could remeber where I read that it was geting the OS upgrad and never saw that it would include any additional features. But based on the original and the second versoins I knew it would become a WM smartphone standard.

On another topic, AT&T's press release today says that the Blackberry Bold will be available on Nov. 4 at the price of $299 with a 2 year contract.

You beat me to it hf1khal. The Blackberry Bold is now officially being launched November 4th. not as much as I thought it would have been considering its the first Blackberry with 3G. Now I can wait patently till Nov. 4th :p Just wish the days can go by faster so i can get it. Here's a link to a news report on it. AT&T: Long-delayed BlackBerry to go on sale Nov. 4 - USATODAY.com

Thats the one I was telling you about last month.

Touchflo sucks on it and the UI is alittle shady. The battery cover makes it awkward to put on a flat surface. Maybe they fixed the issue as I played with a test version.
