    Charlyee;

Also the A845 only does WCDMA (UMTS) but doesn't do HSDPA which would limit your download speed to 386kps.;)

You're right Charlyee. I just have one more thing to say on this subjectm then I'm done. No, the A845 doesn't have WCDMA 850 on it, but I don't think Cingular is operating any 3G on 850 yet. Certainly not in my area at least.

Nope sorry, the CU500 is the first HSDPA phone in the US market and then came the A707 which was Samsung's first HSDPA in the US market, Then the i607 & the 8525, and then the V3xx.

The V3xx is Motorola's first HSDPA phone for North America......:)

There are dual SIM adapters out there that can be used. Check on Ebay. Remember, in some, you might need to trim both SIMs to fit into the adapter. I have heard many do it but one thing is that both lines can be active at the same time and you would have to do a switch between the two as needed.

Re: Cingular Phones Coming Soon! *** UPDATED 1/26/07 ***

BUT, how do you switch between line? Do you know of anyone who has done it with whom I could consult? Did you mean to say that both lines CAN be active at the same time or was this a typo?

I have heard that there is a way that you can receive both lines simultaneously but only transmit on one line or the other. Do you know if this is correct?

    Thanks.

Sorry it was a typo and it should have been can not. Some of those dual SIm adapters come with some sotware to adapt the phone for their use. Check out thses few links below:

    http://www.dual-sim-adapter.com/era_en.html
    http://www.multi-sim.co.uk/x4.htm
http://www.cellulartech-unlock.com/ (look down towards the middle of the page)

There plenty more that also can be found on ebay, I know some that used it on Blackberrys and worked just fine.

Re: Cingular Phones Coming Soon! *** UPDATED 1/26/07 ***

I've tried one dual-SIM adapter and indeed it can't keep both lines active. Some adapters require powering down the phone to switch between SIMs, some (like this one) can do it on the fly. There were a few minor glitches though and also PIN entry was required every time I switched between the SIMs, plus the fit was very tight and I was afraid the battery door hinge may break, so I stopped using it.

at one time i had 2 lines on 1 phone. the phone was a nokia 918 analog. the phone came with my personal line with swbm. and the second line was with att, and was my fire line. yes it was pretty cool, at the time. not sure it can be done today. i now like carrying 2 phones. one for my personal line, and one for the fire dept. thier both part of my family plan, i pay taxes on all but the fire line.

just thought i would share, dan.

    Re: New Cingular fonez!

I hope this is actually released, for the sake of all the HoFo posters who haven't yet given up on this latest object of technolust. However, I'll believe this when I see it. ;) The discussions, rumors, claims and counter-claims about the release date of this phone have stretched over many months. They have have included much bragging and invective, whining and pleading, rending of garments and gnashing of teeth, and were almost an exact copy of the discussions I participated in about the...

This is truly amazing. The 6126 is so last year. I think the first discussions about it were in late 2005. As you know, Charlyee broke down and got her unbranded 6131 in June, 2006. I wanted this thing once, and if I hadn't gotten 2 phones since then, and hadn't been convinced that the unbranded 6131 is much better and hadn't left Cingular in disgust, I might want it still. :lmao:

Is this Cingular's version of TMobiles Samsung Trace? If Cingular does decide to go with this phone, I hope they would allow customers to add insurance to it upon purchasing it. The Trace is so fragile that people are breaking it just by carrying it in their pockets.

Unfortunately, insurance works the other way around. If the phone is too fragile, then it poses too much loss risk for insurance companies and if that's the case they won't insure it. If the phone is tough, hard to break/lose, and cheap to replace, then chances are they will insure it. Their logic is just reversed.

Re: Cingular Phones - Nokia 6126 update

Just a quick post to alert Nokia fans that AT&T/Cingular has, in fact, released the long-awaited Nokia 6126. Bobolito has updated his earlier post to reflect this.

IMHO, too little too late, as I've said earlier. Still, some may appreciate that this is available from a major US company.

    From the Cingular website:

    Nokia 6126
    Price........................ $229.99
    2-yr Contract Price......$79.99
    *Online Price............. $79.99

Definitely. What I really "love" about Cingular though is that they have the guts to call this year-old model "cutting edge" :)

Re: Cingular Phones - Nokia 6126 update

And just to :deadhorse .....They released it after nobody was interested any more. At this rate they'll release the Nokia N75 (the one that has its own release date rumor thread on HoFo :p ) sometime in 2008. Or never. Is "never" good for you?

Never suites *me* just fine, mainly because I don't plan to buy another phone from Cingular anyway :) But I wish Nokia would release phones on it's own, instead of waiting for Cingular. Come to think of it, I'd rather see Nokia make all their phones quad-band GSM and tri-band UMTS/HSDPA :)

    Re: New Cingular fonez!

personally I dont use the carriers insurance,.... I checked with my insurance agent for policy coverage on my house insurance for a cel phone... the policy I have allows for cel phones as a specified item...I gave them the serial number and make/model and full cost falue (non contract price) ... 50.00 deductable...and I pay 2.28 per month...I guess its factored in that you will probabaly take more care than submit a claim on your house insurance

    just a thought

Guess this is what happens when your head swells so much from being the #1 carrier that you think anyone will believe what you say & I think they just prefer to deal with Samsung & BB lately over Moto & Nokia.

I don't think most insurance companies here in the US cover cellphones under homeowners like they do in Canada, My Insurance company doesn't offer it even as an add on and your right they probably don't think most people would use it.
The other thing is getting insurance thru the carrier you will get a replacement within a day or 2 vs homeowners you just get a check & still have to buy one.

I had insurance once, but when I factored in the cost per month & deductiable it was cheaper to buy an Unlocked phone on Ebay. Now with a phone on the high end like the PDA's or new high priced phones it makes sense to me.

I guess it all depends on which type of phone you want & use.
