I installed the Ice Age 2 theme/skin from this site: http://www.motox.info/showthread.php?t=5952 , and it seemed to work through P2KCommander.

When I turned on the skin, it changed the look of the phone, then locked it up. I used the uninstall, which didn't work, then used P2KCommander to remove all of the ice age files.

Now the menu button and the 2 soft keys won't respond to anything. When I hit any of those 3 buttons the screen flashes white, then back to my old desktop, and when I flip the phone closed the outside screen is blank for a few seconds.

The phone will receive calls (I tested it) and the other buttons will work, as long as I don't press the menu button or soft keys first, then they quit responding until I flip the phone closed for a few seconds.

Does anyone know if I can fix this by a seem repair or is there a way to do a hard reset on the Verizon V3m?

You are VERY lucky your phone even turns on. Those skins are for GSM phone, such as Cingular, Tmobile etc. Some work for the Alltel and USCC firmware running the Motorola UI. The Verizon firmware cannot be skinned at all.

As for deleting the skin, P2Kcommander will not do it fully. What u need to do is load up BitPim, and browse to a/mobile/skins/ and delete the Ice Age folder that u created. Then restart the phone and hope that it works.

Let me know if it does, or if we need to try something else.

Oh wait, I just checked that link, and those are Startup/Shutdown animations and also LCD iamges. What did u do in p2kcommander? Were u trying to change the lcd image on ur phone (the verizon.gif image)???

When u said skins, I assumed u meant skins, not these. Let me know what files u uploaded/overwrote, etc.

My guess is the problem started when u overwrote the verizon.gif file.

SO STUPID!! Spidey smacks his head on the desk!!!

I deletec all the files from the Ice Age folder with P2KCommander. Once the files were gone the folder disappeared - I am checking the phone with BitPim now...

Yea, p2k is buggy and wont show "EMPTY" folders. My guess is u will still see that folder in BitPim. Delete that and let me know if it clears it up.

Well BitPim won't find the com port at all

The device manager shows all 3 Motorola USB device entries & MPT4 works fine.

Is this because I changed the seem to make the phone a V3mM?

The only close option I have in BitPim is the V3cM

(ps MPT is not running at the same time, but I do have MSU active and it shows my ESN number)

BitPim is a standalone program, and so is MPT. For MPT, make sure u are at version 4.21a or newer for it to auto-detect your phone as V3mm.

As for BitPim, once u close MSU, then rn BitPOim on its own, select v3cm as the phone model. For Comm Port, select Browse and select the Moto USB Modem. Then the file system should work.

MSU is only designed to run with p2k seem and p2kcommander

    I have MPT 4.3.6c

The Motorola modem is not listed in the device manager - I ran driver tool 4.21a and verified in the device manager. The Motorola USB device is there with the 3 entries, but nothing under modems.

Should I add new hardware for the modem?

Apparently now, MPT will not initialize either... it is looking for a modem

UPDATE - I unplugged the usb from the PC and plugged it back in - it found the modem & I am in BitPim now.

deleting the folder through BP seemed to work - I can use the menu and soft key buttons again. should I use BP or p2Kc to check the verizon.gif image and make sure it is not different

Nothing looks different when I shut down/start up the phone.

I feel like such an idiot. I never saw anything that said that theme was for gsm or cdma. I shall be extremely careful from now on and stick to what I know (audio, video & pix) until I have time to study these posts better!

I really wish I could shake your hand.

    Thanks,
    Spidey

Also, the phone is only 20 days old. I could put their pix and audio back on it, undo my seem edits and take it back - if you believe there may have been permenant damage done by this.

No, I think u should be fine with it. Dont be upset at yourself, that whole site is for GSM, so just be careful which files u use from there.

As for verizon.gif, u should be okay. It wouldnt have changed on its own. I just thought u might have changed that. If u change it to a jpeg, the screen will go white. But if u put the correct 96x80 .gif file on there, its okay.

I would keep a closer eye on things with ur phone. If u see something strange, perhaps take it back after undoing the edits. But if it appears fine now, I think u will be okay.

    Cincyball,

I checked out the phone pretty good and so far the only thing wrong is: I can NOT change the master volume detail like I used to be able to do. I don't know if this is related to the problem yesterday, or because I removed all the stock sounds from the phone.

It is because you removed all the stock sounds, that is my bet. When u removed them, did you delete the MyToneDB.db file from the root directory using BitPim? If u didnt, u need to as it will re-index the audio files on the phone and then re-allow access into the ring style menus.

no I missed that step - I deleted ONLY ring tones (midi & mp3) - I will remove MyToneDB.db and see how that works - other than that, I seem to be okay.

part 2: when you have your RAZR closed, does the top half (LCD and earpiece portion) wiggle from side to side slightly?

the housing - when it's closed, sometimes it doesn't seat right and can be slightly moved side to side

A tiny tiny bit, shifted to the left. You can see a slight gap between the hinge to the right side of the camera, but it doesnt seat any differently. Did u get your sounds fixed?

I am having the same problem. I cannot access master volume detail. I have changed a few seems, edited the verizon.gif and the startup and shutdown animations and now i cannot change the volume details. I have removed mytonedb.db and rebooted and it still does not allow me to change the volume details. Does anyone know what may be the problem and how i can fix this? thank you for your help.
