Why is it that at&t has the network tags on the phones as "AT&T" when everywhere else....its at&t?

Because at&t is just a design. It's really AT&T Mobility but that's not official either. It's the same when they were Cingular. On all the signs, stationery etc. it was cingular but they referred to themselves as Cingular.

I knew it was a design to give people a new 'youthful' impression of at&t but, I just don't see why they didn't do the same with the network tag. LOL

In my area the phones show AT&T regardless of what network your on.

If I am in a old Dobson, ATT, Cenntenial and Tmobile area and I go to network selection I get 4 AT&T Networks to choose from. On my Tilt I can see the actually network tags on my Nokia its all AT&T.

Yeah, I think they set it up so it shows AT&T no matter what network. I think it looks better and 'new' if they used lowercase in the network tag. LOL

on a site not lower case letters for a corporate name looks odd at best.

ALLTEL looked odd as all CAPS and now look odd with all lowers.

AT&T in all caps is a reminder of the old MA BELL Death Star now is a more cutesy globe with lower case. AT&T is more an acronym versus a name, arent acronyms supposed to be capitalized.

I just looked it up on WIKI and Bell Labs actually coined the term Acronym. Acronyms are supposed to be capitalized (at least the letters that directly represent a word)

    American Telephone and Telegraph.

True, it is an acronym but, AT&T has no problems using at&t for the general public so it stands to reason they could do it for the network tag as well. I personally like the lowercase better. Like you the uppercase reminds me of MA BELL and that is not cool. LOL

your right, I dont know if you can do a lower case network tag thou. I think the SIM will display all CAPS. When AT&T first change the tag in my area I thought is was going to be lower case.

I have never seen a lower case Alpha Tag on the dozens of GSM networks I have been on.

On my Tilt I have the Death Star as my Screen saver but with the new globe. You would be surprised how many people dont get it.

It can be done. I've seen it on T-Mobile, Cingular and the old AT&T Wireless. That is why I was curious as to why AT&T didn't do it this time around.

On my hacked phones they showed the old blue network as "AT&T Wireless". It was not in all caps.

Good one, Ive never seen it or maybe I never paid close attention. In that case I wonder why they didnt use lower case like their logo.

On my Tilt when I go into network setup not selection I can see the real names.

On my wireless card I have seen NPI, CellularONE, AT&T and AT&T Wireless all while being on MNC 410.
