Well, I took the plunge mainly because I want to unlock the phone to use abroad soon.

The procedure couldn't be easier - it took a total of about 15 minutes to restore and JB. The only JB app I have set up is SBSettings so far. I'll be looking into others over the next few days.

    :D

I knew it wouldn't be too long before you would. :D. Congratulations I am happy for you that it was easy and problem free.

Questions for you? Do have to repeat the JB procedure when you upgrade versions?

Not sure, Charlyee. Right now, nobody's sure what will happen when 3.1 is released by Apple. The dev team is indicating that nobody should upgrade to 3.1 because there is a real risk that it would not be possible to JB after that. I am sure though that a way will be found to JB 3.1 as well... :)

What they have advised people to do is to capture a couple of system files off the phone and store it in a safe place. These signature files will apparently enable JB'ing in the future even if the phone was upgraded to 3.1. I did that procedure yesterday before jailbreaking, so I am hoping that I am set for the future. We shall see....

Just unlocked my phone with Ultrasn0w 0.9 and tested successfully with my mom's T-Mobile prepaid phone. Works like a charm.... Prague, here I come... :D

LOL, Congratulations & have a fantastic trip, not just because you have an unlocked device now. :D

Question for you. Did OLAM recognize your JB'ed device as an iPhone, the same way as it did before?

    Thanks :)

Charlyee, I have never logged into OLAM from my iPhone. I'll give it a try tonight.

I just tried it and didn't have any trouble logging into OLAM. The system also indicated that my device was a 3GS although I don't know if that's just the information it has in the system or whether it detects it dynamically.

Scrumhalf, thank you so much for trying this out. I was curious since there were some rumors that with a JB'ed iPhone you can circumvent AT&T's mandatory $30 iPhone data plan since OLAM doesn't recognize it as such!

When I swutched from my AT&T branded Treo 750 to the unbranded Treo Pro, I didn't change anything with AT&T. The information they had, including the IMEI was all for the 750. Even so the device & picture on my OLAM changed from the 750 to *unknown*, so I am tempted to say that it detects dynamically.

    Thanks again. :)

That's interesting! I didn't realize that the system was that smart. :D

Yes, it took me completely by surprise. :D.

Interestingly if you get an unbranded SmartPhone, there is no way to get the SmartPhone data plan because the system doesn't recognize the IMEI I.e. that it is a SmartPhone.

AT&T obviously makes money inspite of themselves :D
