I just read over at Yahoo News the Japan just completed test on a new satellite they launched in Feb. Supposedly it can get 1.2 Gbps upload and download with a 1.2 meter dish. Also, with a 45-centimeter dish you can get 1.5 Mbps upload and 155 Mbps download. This seems awesome, especially when Hughesnet can't offer anywhere near this, but I wonder what the latency would be. Japanese Internet Satellite Hits 1.2Gbps - Yahoo! News
Your ping time is still going to be slow because you still have to send the data from the ground, into space, and then back down to Earth. Faster data speeds will make it a lot better though. My parents have satellite internet and my phone teathered over EDGE to my laptop was almost faster. -Jay
I just wish the voice could penetrate better imagine how nice it would be if you could get -70s in your house lol.
A bit off-topic, but I wonder which country has the fastest internet connection. Anyone know?
My parents have hughesnet as well. I want to cry everytime I go down there and try to use the internet... The "fair use policy" limits them to 100mbs every 24 hours....
Yeah, I hate their FAP, you can easily go through it and it throttles you to around dial up speeds for a while. I would like to get this internet, but I don't think the latency will be to bad. They said they have a ATM switch already on board the satellite so they don't have to re-encapsulate the data you send. As to who was the fastest internet. Its a 75 year old lady in Sweden who has a 40 gigabit connection. The Local - Sigbritt, 75, has world's fastest broadband But country wise, yeah, Japan has the fastest internet speeds.
