J.D. Power and Associates Recognizes Sprint for "Highest Call Quality Performance" in the West Region in a Tie With Improvement in Four U.S. Regions, Sprint Is Delivering More of What Customers Want Now OVERLAND PARK, Kan.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mar. 18, 2009-- Customers are taking notice of Sprint’s (NYSE:S) network performance and overall call quality. Today, Sprint received the J.D. Power and Associates Award for “Highest Call Quality Performance Among Wireless Cell Phone Users in the West Region in a Tie.” Sprint’s commitment to improving its networks--specifically reducing dropped calls and ensuring call quality--is paying off. According to J.D. Power and Associates’ 2009 Wireless Call Quality Performance StudySM - Volume 1, overall, the company improved its ranking in four of six regions nationally, when compared to the previous J.D. Power and Associates 2008 Wireless Call Quality Performance StudySM – Volume 2. Sprint has shown sequential improvement since the 2008 study, outpacing the industry average. The J.D. Power and Associates 2009 Wireless Call Quality Performance Study measures wireless call quality based on seven criteria that impact a carrier’s performance. Wireless phone subscribers surveyed were asked about their experiences with dropped calls, static/interference, connection on first try, voice distortion, echoes, immediate voice mail notification, and immediate text message notification. The West Region includes: Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming – and is the largest geographical region in the J.D. Power and Associates 2009 Wireless Call Quality Performance StudySM - Volume 1. Since 2006, Sprint has invested more than $16 billion in capital largely to enhance its wireline and wireless networks across the nation. In addition, Sprint is leading the way with the launch of its mobile WiMAX service and bringing the Internet to life with its next generation 4G network. “Not only are our wireless networks performing very well, but we’re also launching innovative devices, like the highly anticipated Palm® Pre™, on America’s most dependable 3G network,*” said Sprint CEO Dan Hesse. “We’re also helping customers save money with cost-effective wireless plans, and teaching them how to tap the full potential of their wireless devices through our in-store Ready Now experience.” Sprint customers enjoy the best value in the industry with a dynamic suite of Everything plans that allow customers to use their phones the way they want without worrying about their wireless bills. For example, Sprint’s Simply EverythingSM plan provides unlimited nationwide calling, texting, email, Web browsing, GPS navigation and much more for only $99.99 per month. Families can also save with Sprint. Sprint’s Simply Everything Family plan with unlimited voice, data and messaging for two customers begin at $99.99 per month, allowing two customers to share 1,500 minutes and unlimited text, picture and video messaging. Re: J.D. Power and Associates Recognizes Sprint for "Highest Call Quality Performance Think the Nextel merger had nothing to do with this? Now I just hope Sprint's CDMA customers in the West will appreciate this and not jump ship for a carrier with a cooler gadget or better marketing campaign.
Re: J.D. Power and Associates Recognizes Sprint for "Highest Call Quality Performance The flocks of customers leaving Sprint is opening up a bunch of bandwith.
Re: J.D. Power and Associates Recognizes Sprint for "Highest Call Quality Performance Everything data family plans start at 99.99 a month? What? It's 129.99 a month! Right? It's good to see some positive PR for Sprint... go figure that larry was the first to post this
Re: J.D. Power and Associates Recognizes Sprint for "Highest Call Quality Performance I thought JD Power sold all this to the highest bidder (or, that's what people tell me when T-Mobile gets an award )
Re: J.D. Power and Associates Recognizes Sprint for "Highest Call Quality Performance Yeah I'm not surprised that I was the one to post this. If this had been a study showing Sprint in last it would have been posted by someone hours before I even woke up this morning (I'm on the West Coast). The usual people who can't wait to post these things when T-Mobile & Verizon win seemed to have been MIA today. That may be true but the CDMA system wouldn't really be affected by that as much as the iDEN system. I'm sure the loss of customers (mainly on the iDEN side) has helped improve Nextel service.
Re: J.D. Power and Associates Recognizes Sprint for "Highest Call Quality Performance Finally, Sprint is getting some good news. How long has it been since the last good news about them? like 3 years?
Re: J.D. Power and Associates Recognizes Sprint for "Highest Call Quality Performance Yep, it's $129.99 a month, which is still a great deal compared to other carriers. It really dose not surprise me that Sprint is finally getting some praise for their network out west.
Re: J.D. Power and Associates Recognizes Sprint for "Highest Call Quality Performance I'm not surprised about this. larry, you've been pointing out for a long time about Sprint's increased network capacity with all of the additional cell sites co-located with Nextel. Now J.D. Powers has done a survey bearing this out. Good for Sprint. Good for their customers, and ultimately, good for the wireless industry, IMO.
Re: J.D. Power and Associates Recognizes Sprint for "Highest Call Quality Performance About that if you don't consider the data speed tests they have often won.
Re: J.D. Power and Associates Recognizes Sprint for "Highest Call Quality Performance While it pains me to do so I must admit sprint has done some good things in my area with their network, when I had them 1999-04, I seriously got used to two min conversations because most calls would drop after that. But a friend who has sprint says he is pleased. I guess even a blind dog finds a bone every now and then...I joke but good for sprint to get some good news for a change.
Re: J.D. Power and Associates Recognizes Sprint for "Highest Call Quality Performance That goes to show that you can't judge a carrier based on how they were in 2003. Times have changed and networks have greatly improved since those early days.
Re: J.D. Power and Associates Recognizes Sprint for "Highest Call Quality Performance I used Sprint in 02-03 in MN, SD, IA, NE, WY, CO and wasn't too pleased, but since the SERO plan got me back 11/07, I have been amazed at the improvements! The current Sprint phone/service has had my Verizon using friends befuddled in some areas where their beloved VZW hasn't worked so well. The Sprint network has improved in the areas I travel, and the roaming agreements are exceptional! In a few remote locations, I have stood near two buddies with vzw, used my Sprint phone to call their vzw phones and left a msg 'can you hear me now?', so they can get the voicemail when they have reception. This has happened a few times. We'll see VZW improve, though, with their purchase of Alltel I imagine.
Re: J.D. Power and Associates Recognizes Sprint for "Highest Call Quality Performance Very nice to hear this positive press coverage for Sprint. I can say that since I started using Sprint in June '08, the coverage has also been excellent in my area even though I don't live in the west. I've never been unable to use my phone when others could. Native coverage has been very solid and the roaming agreements virtually give you a signal whenever one can be found. Like Jason, I signed up and tried Sprint because the price was better with Sprint on the old SERO, but I am very happy I did. Even without the old SERO plans, Sprint's plans generally save money over Verizon or At&t, and you're definitely not losing any coverage from what I've experienced. Considering the JD Powers awards are based on consumer responses, perhaps this is a good sign for Sprint's future as most all the ranting and raving, predominantly Nextel customers have found other options.
Re: J.D. Power and Associates Recognizes Sprint for "Highest Call Quality Performance True. Sprint data speeds have always been better than Verizon.
What causes Sprint's data speeds to be higher than Verizon's? The technology is the same, so is it bandwidth? Thanks Palm850/v0100 Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 7.11)
Re: J.D. Power and Associates Recognizes Sprint for "Highest Call Quality Performance Not the bandwidth. Verizon has much more users and Sprint has more backhaul capacity and spectrum than Verizon in many areas.
