Alltel's analog is now finally gone here in Upstate SC.
I was getting an analog signal earlier yesterday from Alltel, just about 10 hours ago from this post.
Alltel said the deadline was March 31, so I guess they gave everyone about an extra 2 weeks.

I just put my phone on analog only,
and I only found a very low analog signal that still exists (US Cellular - SID 246 - AMPS B),
in Western NC from a tower about 20 miles away to my NNW,
A call was barely able to go through on analog USCC, it drops 5 seconds after connecting.
I have to go outside to find this low USCC analog signal. (It's really useless to me in my location).
I wasn't able to get USCC's analog when Alltel's analog was up (same band - Cellular B).
Not sure when USCC's analog will go down, but for now, thats the only analog left near me.

Jerro explained the situation good earlier:

Tallahassee is now analog free As well...SID 544's analog was up yesterday afternoon, but now Alltel has finally pulled their analog here as well.

I guess Alltel disabled roaming on USCC's analog
I just tried to place a call (in a place where I was able to get better signal so I could hear the connection)
    and all I heard was:

"Message AS-24, Welcome to US Cellular, the subscriber you have called does not answer,
please try again later, Message AS-24"

This was not the case on March 1st, when I roamed on USCC's analog (SID 246) in Asheville with no problem,
and on March 9 atop Crowders Mountain in Gastonia, NC from a tower 60 miles away near Wilkesboro, NC (SID 309).

I still have Alltel's PRL 20029 on my NAM 2, and 20031 on my NAM 1
neither NAM was able to make a successful connection past this error message.

With Alltel, phase 1 of the sunset is done, no more Alltel analog signal left in
Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, and Virginia.

Next is phase 2, and it is scheduled to be completed by June,
(maybe they'll be pushed back a few weeks as well, who knows)
    and it will affect:
Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, and Wisconsin.

Don't count on it of course ;),

In the meantime, if you want Analog, take advantage of Alltel in the Western States,
they should be on until the end of the summer hopefully.

Alltel still has analog on along 395 from Olancha up. Mt Whitney and Mammoth Lakes area are covered by analog as well as cdma.

In wisconson, B-side analog on both AT&T and Alltel in the southern half of the state is off. USCC still has it on on the A-side.

Yup US Cellular's analog is still on in the Carolinas, I wonder why, and how long it will stay...
    SIDs 246, 309, 1541 & 1643 still broadcasting analog.

Also I think Ramcell (SID 1518) in Western NC still has analog.

In Vermont I'm still getting Analog on SID 313. Unicel AMPS I believe. I have no idea when they plan to shut it down, but for now Analog is still alive. I have an older LG that I tested with.

My 3w bag phone won't work in Reno/Carson City, NV. All analog is off there. Though it'll work once I get into the Alltel network...for now anyways.

I think Alltel's out west will be gone by the end of September,

    I'm not sure about USCC,
but it seems USCC's entire analog footprint is still intact to this day from what I've seen.

i went to us cellular and inland cellulars websites, no shut of dates

in us cellular, they have no intention of shutting of analog, but urges customers to get e911 trimode phones

inland cellular has no intention of shutting of analog since most there native coverage is analog.

also in oregon, there 50-80 mile gaps filled in with altel analog, will altel consider keeping it up, unless they add more digital towers to make up for coverage loss.

verizon had a realy good analog signal back in febuary in northern california, now sid 112 is all digital. very poor digital once u leave town. there use to be a good analog signal that covered lot more area. i thought the FCC said that there was to be no signal loss, aperently, they dont care.

Here in Orange County, CA I can't get any analog signals at all. I have Verizon. It was nice of them to turn off the analog signals in the mountains. Now I get no signal at all in some places . I really don't understand the logic in shutting off analog signals if the other option is to have nothing at all. :loony:

Verizon's analog signal anywhere in the greater L.A. area wasn't usable anyway, so it doesn't make any difference now that it's been deactivated.

Last month when I was in California (8-2 until 8-10)
Golden State Cellular still had analog coverage across it's entire footprint.

Alltel also had analog + digital coverage in Lee Vining, Bridgeport, Mammoth Lakes & Bishop.
There were also a few "analog only" places for Alltel along US-395 north of Bridgeport.

Golden State Cellular is SID 1064, and I roamed on them for 2 minutes
in Tuolumne County along Hwy 108 & 120, not too far from Yosemite NP & Sonora Pass.

By the way, I didn't get to goto Twin Lakes or June Lake,
but I got to see and goto Mono Lake. What a beautiful place!

Alltel & Verizon are the only 2 carriers to cover the area around Mono Lake,
both worked well, but Alltel also has AMPS, GSM & TDMA in addition to CDMA around that area.

i went to bridge port to go fishing at twin lakes, and to test alltel analog. Alltel still broadcasting analog, wich is good cause most the area is analog only still. i think i found gsc because my phone was set for alltel's sid, and for like 10 sec, it said roaming.(its the analog microtac)

so we just have to wait and see, oh and i made front page of the local bait shops website!

    Kens Sporting Goods Home Page

i'll get some pics of the microtac running on alltel next time im there.
