I've had VoiceStream for 3 weeks now and I love it, but I do have some problems with it. Sometimes, I can call my phone and get an 'All circuits are busy' message, which is extremely annoying. I have the 773-744 prefix. Also, their billing system isn't that good. I had PrimeCo for one entire year and I also had AT&T for about 6 months. PrimeCo lacked PCS features, but your current balance and minutes used was always available and was updated after every call. I also liked their #225 and check billing features. I think that PrimeCo is good for the beginning level user. AT&T was ok. VoiceStream's minutes used is updated only once daily. Their online detailed billing is ok, but it's hardly ever available. You can only access it between around 6 a.m. and 9 a.m., something like that. They need to take text messages out of online detailed billing too. Anyway, I heard that VoiceStream has too many people on their towers or something like that. I like VoiceStream over any other company I've been with, and I just want some other opinions, and does anyone know if they will correct that 'All circuits are busy' issue. I'm on the 3000 anytime minutes plan for 49.99 and it's pretty good. The Nokia 3390 is also outstanding. I also found something out. If you can't send e-mail from your 3390, change the Message Center Number from +12063130004 to +13343338200 (Powertel). Then you'll be able to send e-mail after following the instructions. It worked fine for me. If I put Murdoc01@aol.com /What's up /This is my message. as the text message and send it to '500', I would receive an e-mail with the subject 'What's up'. You have to put a space then a forward slash to separate the address from the subject and the subject from the body. It worked fine for me. I also love the conference calling features - where you can swap back and forth, go private, or join all calls... then you can get an additional call through call waiting! Does anyone else have VoiceStream? Let me know your opinions..... Thanks

Yes, I have Voicestream and love them just as much as you do. I have had Voicestream for over a year, and I can assure you that you will love them forever. I have the 3390 too, and it performs great.

I use the 1206 number for my messages though. I have to type the email address first, then a space, then the subject, then the # sign, then a space, and then I can type the message. Did you know you can go onto the MyVoicestream.com website and give the email addresses that you usually nicknames. For example; instead of typing "aiwapro@msn.com," you can just give it a nickname, like the person's name, "Chris" for example. One thing though, make sure you make all of you nicknames lowercase. With this feature, all you have to do is type the nickname, space, subject, #, space, then the message.

chris How you doing# Hey, do you work tomorrow.

About the all circuits being busy problem, I have never had it happen, but if you call customer service, they will send it to their engineers, and get the problem tooken care of. Call 1-800-937-8997, you won't be on hold long, 5 minutes at the most.
I recommend Voicestream to everyone.

Hey what plan do you have? I'm a big talker, so I have the Get More 3000 for $49.99/mo, and 500 addt'l weekend minuted for $9.99 - and the 500 ping pong msgs for $2.99... It's starting to add up. $62.97 before tax. This plan includes regional roaming/long distance (MN, WI, IA, IL, IN, MI and somewhere else..) Tell me, is there any way to pay more for nationwide long distance on this plan. I went on this plan because I talk more through the week day. Like you said, they are the best that I've been with. I've gone through PrimeCo, AT&T, and Sprint. They were ok, but I had serious network problems with Sprint... I don't see how they are doing so well. Do you know when the 8390 is coming out?

They don't offer nationwide LD on the 3000 minute plan. Your base price is 59.99, and on a national plan you get 800 anytime minutes and free weekends. All the minutes are free LD and roaming nationwide. Once you've been a customer for 10 months or more (doesn't matter if you've been on your plan shorter) call VS and ask for the "preferred" plan. For 59.99, you'd get an extra 100 anytime minutes for a total of 900. Maybe that would work but I realize you just started, but keep it in mind.

Good.... I have so many questions about my service, and they can never answer my questions. Who can you send and receive text messages from? I'm sent and received from Cingular and AT&T, but could only send to Verizon and Sprint.. I couldn't receive a reply from them. Why? Let me know some more stuff about VStream and WHY CAN'T YOU USE touchtones while on a 3-way call? That is extra irritating!

Don't quite understand. You are already on a 3-way call. Why would you be attempting to dial something else?

I think that they mean well, but it's annoying. You can't connect all the third party, unless they answer and once they're connected, you can't use touch tones but they can. Well, if I happen to use an automated system or voice mail while on a 3-way call, I have to go private with the person I'm on the phone with and press the buttons, or ask him to push them. It's funny, because the 'Conference' option isn't even on the menu until the third party answers. From there, you can join the calls, and even go private with one or the other callers. Example: Say Moe and Joe were on the phone, and Moe called Doe. They're on a 3-way call, Moe had something to say to Doe about Joe and didn't want Joe to hear it, he could click Private, then conference again.

I just upgraded to the New Nationwide GET MORE plan with 500 anytime minutes, but since have been with them for over a year now (they only require 10 months), they gave me 700 anytime minutes. Mine is $39.99 too. I added the $2.99 for the extra 500 messages. I send and receive a lot of messages.
By the way, all of Voicestream's plans are now Nationwide (Free Long Distance & Free Roaming). They just did this recently though, within the past 2 months or so.
Call Voicestream and find out if you can change all of your minutes to Nationwide. I know before they switched all their plans to Nationwide, they have something called America Toll-free, where you could make all of you anytime minutes Nationwide for $9.99 a month extra. They might work with you if you get a customer rep.
I know the 8390 is set to come out soon, but I son't know if Voicestream will get it or not. They won't tell you. If you call Nokia they MIGHT tell you. They told me that the Nokia 3390 Gold was coming out about 7-8 months ago.

Oh sorry everyone, I hadn't read the rest of the replies on this thread before I typed my prior message.
About the messaging with Verizon and Sprint, make sure that they send their messages to you as an email. They should send it to "your10digitmobilenumber@voicestream.net" You can also log into MyVoicestream.com and give yourself a nickname; that way instead of everyone having to type out your whole mobile number in the email address, they can just type "yournickname@voicestream.net"

Email me at my address below if you have any questions:

I hate VS. Anyone who calls gets a busy signal or all circuits are busy. It doesn't matter what time a call is placed to me. I even had Customer care and a tech try and it took them 3 x each to get through. I finally was able to get out of my contract after 3 horrible months. Sometimes it took callers up to 14x to get through. I'm switching to Primeco or ATT...

I use VoiceStream in New Orleans, Louisiana. They just opened this market and network availability is great. But Louisiana needs more coverage areas. Only the main locations are covered. VStream promises to expand its coverage in this state. Arkansas is also to get VStream coverage very soon.

All calls are crisp and clear and I have had no problems at all ! No dropped calls, no billing problems, good customer service, great data services (SMS, AOL Messenger, iStream ... ) !

If you activate Global Roaming you can use your phone in all T-Mobile Networks around the world for just 99c a minute ! Nobody beats that !

I highly recommend VoiceStream to anybody searching for a great PCS carrier !

VoiceStream Rulez :)

I'm glad that you have had good experiences with them. I was in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Louisiana last month and my service was great too. I had only one dropped call, but that's only because I walked into the back of some store and lost signal. Yes the clarity and everything was great. I do agree to that more coverage should be added to the Louisiana area. I was in West Monroe, Louisiana also, and I had no signal at all. They will eventually expand it though. Overall, I am very happy with Voicestream Wirelesss, and have been for over a year now.

Hey anonymous would you mind logging in or registering as a user, because there is a person on this forum who is accusing me that all of the anonymous posts that say good things about Voicestream, are me. I just want to prove them wrong. You thanks is greatly appreciated.

I have sent and received back and forth with my Voicestream and Verizon phones (SMS to 10 digit phone number). Both send this way to Nextel also.

With Cingular I could only reply to message received from 1phonenumber@msmx.net address with my Voicestream. [Cingular messages not received by Verizon]

Messages from Voicestream and Verizon not received by Suncom, the only AT&T available here

Well I send and recieve to all of the carriers, except nextel and Cingular, haven't tried sending to them yet.

I send and receive to AT&T via 10 digit mobile number.
I send and receive to Verizon via email address, 1234567890@vtext.com
I send and receive to Sprint PCS via email address 1234567890@messaging.sprintpcs.com
I send and receive to Arch Wireless (2 Way Pagers) via 1234567890@archwireless.net

These are the most effective ways that I send and receive messages. It usually goes through in about 2-5 seconds.

Well I just found some information on the Cingular email addresses to their phones. It is very stupid and complicated. There are different email addresses for Cingular customers in different areas. Here it is: Cingular Interactive Messaging.

I don't find it confusing at all. Due to the merger of different markets into the Cingular company, they are yet working out the inconsistencies. I'm sorry you find it "stupid" and that you chose to post in such degrading terms. Tell me, do you think that adds to your credibility or reader's perception of your reasonableness? You became upset with others giving a less than stellar eval of Voicestream but it doesn't seem to both you at all to totally degrade other carriers in insulting terms.

I've read a few of your other posts tonight, I'm just going to give you the benefit of the doubt that you are having a particularly lousy day.

One thing I'm reading between the lines here is interoperability
or more precisely the lack of it, so far

http://www.wirelessweek.com/index.a...rtical=Business+and+Finance&industry=Carriers

More Carriers Begin Implementing SMS Interoperability
By Deborah Méndez-Wilson
March 6, 2002

VoiceStream Wireless and Cingular Wireless are the latest major network operators to announce plans to implement intercarrier text messaging.

Cingular says its customers will be able to send text messages to subscribers on other wireless networks starting this month. VoiceStream has been testing an intercarrier solution for the past month and company spokeswoman Kim Thompson says the service is available to customers today.

In November, AT&T Wireless became the first U.S. wireless carrier to break 'the carrier barrier' by implementing a solution that enables cross-carrier text messaging (see related story on page 20).

Experts say the lack of network interoperability has been the primary barrier to widespread adoption of SMS, or short messaging service, in the United States. As more U.S. carriers implement intercarrier solutions, industry observers expect text messaging to catch on here as it has elsewhere around the world. In Europe, where carriers share the GSM wireless standard, SMS is popular, accounting for 10 percent or more of some carriers' total revenue.

According to the GSM Association, more than 50 billion SMS messages were transmitted worldwide in the first three months of this year. Observers say network operators stand to reap higher profits once U.S. subscribers discover text messaging. Generally, carriers charge a nominal fee per message, but those messages can add up to a healthy stream of revenue.

'There are wonderful opportunities for operators to bring in value-added services' to U.S. consumers, says Colin Matthews, president and CEO of InphoMatch Inc., the Chantilly, Va.-based company working with AT&T and VoiceStream to enable intercarrier messaging.

Thompson acknowledges VoiceStream has been testing InphoMatch's intercarrier solution for the past month. She says the solution is an expansion of the carrier's current SMS offering. 'We've seen great results. It's available today for every VoiceStream customer regardless of the handset they use,' she says.

InphoMatch has four more agreements in the works with top U.S. wireless carriers. Once signed, the deals would give it a 70 percent market share, Matthews says. Other companies competing in InphoMatch's space include Logica plc, MobileSpring Inc., MobileWay Inc., Wireless Services Corp., CMG Wireless Data Solutions and TCS.

I know that the merging is the problem Kevin, but don't you agree that for someone who knows Cingular customer in different areas, it would be hard for this person the keep all the email address straight, especially when most phones don't have space for 'email' in the phone book.

Yeah you can use the 10 digit mobile number to send to all of the carriers, but to certain carriers, email is much faster. When I send messages to Sprint PCS customers using the mobile number, it takes like a day, but when I use the email address, it goes to them in approximately 3 seconds.

Has anyone been able to figure out how to setup the Nokia 8390 on VoiceStream's iStream service? VoiceStream isn't particularly helpful since technically they don't sell this phone and I struck out with Nokia too. I would think it would not be too difficult but I do not know which of the settings need to be set and to what values. Any help would be appreciated.

Chris, first of all the problem with not being able to send txt msg's to Sprint phones by phone number in a timely manner would be the fault of Voicestream, most likely, as they're the ones that have to initially route the message to the correct provider. I'm on Cingular GSM and I send SMS to my friend's sprint phone by his phone # and they go through almost instantly, so it's not an issue with Sprint. And for anon, if you do a search for VS GPRS settings, there's a thread somewhere on here with all the settings listed to put into your phone. I'm not sure if it's listed as VS or Voicestream, so try both.

I have to agree with Aiwapro on the Sprint messaging thing, if you send a text message it takes forever, in fact, I just tested it, as I have both Sprint AND VS for the time being. From istream to my#@messaging.sprintpcs.com, it took about 3 seconds to go through. Sending a text message to my number, it's been 18 minutes, and still nothing. If I send to Cingular or ATT, by using the text method(NOT EMAIL), that too goes through in a few seconds. For the record, I am in the Chicago/suburbs area.
