Hi....my wife and I are 4 months into a new contract with AT&T. We both have the samsung mythic and it's ok but we both are wanting an iphone really bad. We'd settle for the current iphone instead of the iphone4. Are there any loop holes or something we can do to get the iphones with out paying retail price? Those things are about $550 retail. After playing with one in the store I've got the "I wants" really bad!

Thanks for any help or suggestions,
    Steve

Have you called AT&T and asked? Chances are they will do something for you since you will be paying more for your monthly service and renewing your contract. Another option is to try Ebay. Since the iPhone 4 is available there will be a lot of folks selling their iPhone 3G. See if you can get one in good condition at a fair price, then sell your Samsung Mythic on Ebay to recoup some of your money. Just remember that you are going to have to change your service to be able to use your iPhone and it will cost more...especially when you start downloading apps.

Be advised that you will no longer be able to get an unlimited data plan on an iPhone since you did not have a smartphone data plan already. You will have to get at least the DataPlus Data Plan ($15..00) with 200 megabytes allowed per month or the DataPro Data Plan ($25.00) for 2 gigabytes. The latter is a better choice if you expect to use more than 200 megabytes. If you run over with the 200 megabyte plan, it costs $15.00 for each incremental 200 megabyte addition while you get an additional gigabyte with the DataPro plan for $10.00 more. So you would pay $30.00 for 201 to 400 megaytes with the DataPlus plan and $35.00 for up to 3 gigabytes with the DataPro plan.

Right now we have an unlimited data plan with our mythics. And looking at our data usage graph we haven't used 2gb since we've had them. I went to an ATT store and he said we'd have to pay retail for the iphones. In two months he said we could get new phones on a one year extension which he said would knock it down to about 400 bucks per phone. OUCH!!!!!!!!!! I think I may just call ATT and see what they say. I figured they would want to get rid of all the 3g/3gs phones since everybody is wanting the new iphone4. Thanks for the replies and suggestions.

Good idea. Call AT&T and see what they offer. The folks who work in the store usually don't have the authority to offer anything different than what the system says. The problem with iPhones is that they are so popular that people will pay whatever they have to just to get one.

Called ATT and they won't even talk to you about an iphone. They said it has to be online or in the store. I guess I gotta wait.

Either that or try Ebay. A lot of folks will be selling their iPhone 3G when they get their iPhone 4. You can probably pick one up at good price.

To keep an unlimited data plan on a smartphone, you must have had an unlimited smartphone data plan prior to June 7, 2010. The Samsung Mythic is not a smartphone. AT&T did not change the data plans for non smart phones. Having an unlimited data plan on a Quick Messaging Device such as the Samsung Mythic does not qualify you for having an unlimited data plan on a smartphone.

Don't expect any bargains on the iPhone. If your current phone numbers are not important, you could get new subscriber prices by starting two new lines. You could get refurbished iPhones 3GS for $99 each. If you cancel your current lines, it would cost about $155 each in Early Termination Fees. The Early Termination Fees on the iPhones would be $325 each.
