I just read a piece on a news site calling Mr. Trump a hypocrite for telling others to boycott Apple while he himself owns millions in stocks in Apple. In the comments, "TechieXP1969" defended Trump and saying that he doesn't have to agree with all that Apple does in order to have stock. I don't agree. If Trump is saying that everyone shouldn't do business with Apple, then Trump should dump his stocks in Apple. While condemning Apple and telling others not to do business with Apple, he continues to support Apple. That is indeed being a hypocrite. But what you do you think?
I think it's akin to the anecdote about Nils Bohr and a hoof. When someone saw a hoof on his door they asked if he really believed that it brings luck. To that Bohr replied that of course he doesn't but they say it brings luck to non-believers as well. Trump may as well see this as Apple supporting *him*, not the other way around. And if Apple brings money to non-believers too... well, you get the drift. More seriously, owning Apple stock at least gives Trump a chance to voice his disagreement by voting his stock. If he never votes against the board recommendations, then yes, I'd call that hypocritical.
I agree with KevinJames. As typical, Trump didn't give a complex statement as dmapr implies. He simply says to boycott Apple. That would include owning stock. That how boycotts work. Universities divest stock in industries, not just simply not buy products. Having said this, Trump doesn't know what he is talking about generally, so he probably would confuse himself if he gave it this much thought. After all Apple is a wealthier company that Trump industries, so clearly they know better. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Trump is a hypocrite, among other things. He never gives complex answers, only thoughts more like "because I said so." If he is intelligent he sure gives us no indication. But then if you're not him, you're a loser.
What I found most hilarious regarding his boycott recommendation was when he said: “How do you like that? I just thought of that!” As if that were some deeply intellectual realization. But based on what I see, that IS indeed about as deep as he gets. Thought-vomit marketed as wisdom!
