Continues @ Is a closed deal a done deal? Reports of Alltel death greatly exaggerated - RCR Wireless News
it would cause too much hubub to try to undo the merger but I do think that they made a good point that with the new Democratic-controlled FCC they will make spectrum caps on how mcuh spectrum companies can warehouse or caps on how much can be charged for roaming.
You're not kidding! But I agree with you about the current administration reversing or modifying old policies on spectrum holdings and other anti-competitive issues.
I agree... My business was better when there were more competitors in my market... at one point we had 10 different carriers covering this market... that has been cut in half: Suncom Tmobile Hargray Alltel (360...and Sprint Cellular) Verizon AT&T (Cingular, Powertel) Nextel Southern Linc (no longer actively sells in this area) Verizon (GTE...Bell Atlantic) Sprint (Airgate PCS) Now in the same market. Tmobile (Suncom and Tmobile merged.) Cricket (purchased Hargray Wireless) Verizon (Alltel is not being divested in this market.) At&T Sprint (Nextel and Sprint Merged)
Funny thing is the opposite in Montana is true. Alltel needs to be completely divested in the whole state. We have Verizon, Alltel, Qwest (all 2 customers - LOL), and Cellular One (Chinook - GSM, Sprint wantabes). AirTel up and quit with no warning. I'm glad to see that someone else will be buying Alltel here, hopefully bring more compitiion.
Alltel does NOT need to be divested in the whole state of Montana - there's a bit of Sagebrush Cellular territory where Verizon gets to keep Alltel. Additionally, Qwest does not have it's own cell network. They were an MVNO for Sprint (which in turn leased that out to Alltel here in Montana), and now they are an MVNO for Verizon. Verizon, Alltel, and CellularOne are the carriers in the main populated regions of Montana. I've had them all and find CellularOne the best, but none are close to perfect!
